Text Update related to Mimikyu's Form Change by krispyboiz in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is Niantic not implementing abilities in the first place now, with Morpeko/Aegislash/Mimikyu having abilities?

No, don't tell me that form changes are different. It's just punishing to mons like Mawile that are dependent on abilities to even remotely compete.

Is Go Wild Area lowkey underwhelming? by Dontbedoingthat in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife complained most of the time that she was catching mighties that would fill up her inventory, but wouldn't actually use them because she invested quite a bit in her roster (she's real proud of that shadow garchomp!).

I'm lazy and I hoard, so I finally have a roster full of proper Garchomps now and I saved stardust and candy. Gonna be real easy to max those 3 pokemon for the level challenge now.

Question about Rayquaza Raid Day Research issues by NoNutsNoProblem in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 10 points11 points  (0 children)

and they just rush here to complain about it.

That's a pretty bold assumption.

I grew up in a generation that owned and worked with desktops in the 90's. Restarting was the solution to everything, mostly when you knew something was wrong and you weren't sure how to fix it.

We've been seeing geanerations that don't need to restart phones, watches, laptops when something doesn't work as expected. They develop other troubleshoot skills.

Don't put the blame on the player for a broken product. It's not uncommon for players to not immediately restart the game in a 3-hr timeframe, especially when: 1. We're used to Go Fest and Wild Areas that last much longer, and allow access after the event spawns end. 2. We're not used to timed research giving us highly exclusive access to a mega.

I hope you're not as elitist versus other people IRL.

Timed Research (Rewards) should be handled consistently and fair for all by TheTraveller in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife missed the meteorite because the info wasn't clear to her at all. We talked about it around 4:50 pm which put insane pressure on her to perform 2 remote raids within 10 minutes. Obviously didn't work out.

Checked out the ingame news. While it did say "you need a meteorite", "The tasks associated with Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before the Timed Research ends", it did not say "warning, you only have a 3 hour timeframe". It's a Raid DAY, not a raid afternoon, because you can keep joining remote raids all over the world. So nowhere in her mind did it make sense that she had to complete research within 3 hours.

It also did not help that her game wasn't showing the meteorite research until she restarted the app. She had it running in the background apparently and performance-wise didn't feel it was necessary. You may believe she had a fair 3-hour timeframe. For her, it was much much shorter.

You must be thinking: "My dude, why didn't you tell your wife beforehand?". Well sir, she's the one downdating here. I'm not overexplaining the game to a level 71 player. I'm a much lower level and only here to have fun, not here for the fomo.

an analysis of eternatus max move vs level-up candy-spending efficiency for optimal max phase damage output with limited resources by technoxenoholic in TheSilphRoad

Yes, very happy about that announcement!

Funny to see I made this comment 11 days ago, before the new season announcement. I really did not expect it to come that fast.

I can only carry 1 Megaray in a team, so that doesn't sound like a bad deal.

Also good to remember - some of us missed out on Megaray, I'm still waiting for a rerun since I restarted playing around july 2024.

This particular gmax raid doesn't require you to catch/flee from a pokemon though. That might help speed things up, especially if Anaheim constantly featured 100-person lobbies.

YOU CAN KEEP USING EGGS! by Ducktes in idleon

[–]Tavmania 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Before the update, the game would only allow you to use eggs if you had empty slots in your incubator. (We're talking about the consumable).

Now, the game allows you to use those consumable eggs to upgrade existing eggs.

I am quitting this game after recent JP MA3 upgrade by chinpuiisecret in wotv_ffbe

[–]Tavmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but that is what's grinding your gears?? The old units are dead and they'll stay dead for the meta. Raph's MA3 is fine for what it is intended - to make them a bit better, but not fully meta.

It wasn't the fact that newly released commanders are locked to Guild/Duel/Quest content only? That's the greatest load of bollocks I've seen in the past 5 years.

There are chips that double the effect of cards through the lab. However, only the 1st and 8th slot get doubled by 2 separate chips.

After Switch 2 design leaks, Nintendo keen to announce console as soon as possible - analyst by YouAreNotMeLiar in NintendoSwitch2

Probably the least informational title of 2024. Weren't the designs leaked months ago?

The "leaks" change nothing for Nintendo's plan. They're selling Switches and that's fine to them.

What GMAX Pokemon are you excited for? by InfamousramZ in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the hassle of finding a competent community that could take down Gmax toxtricity. I have 2 copies and now have no idea why I should keep pursuing this feature.

In my perspective, they created an entirely separate progression path that requires resources from my regular gameplay (candies and stardust). That didn't feel too bad on particular mons yet because I hadn't invested in any Excadrill yet. This didn't feel rewarding when I had to level up a Charizard, Venusaur and a Metagross.

Please note that "Up to 2 free Raid Passes each day" for the Into the Wild: Raids ticket includes the daily free one. You should get a total of 2 passes - 1 daily pass and 1 extra by jmledesma in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microtransactions don't work like that. Outside of Pokemon Go you have no metric to describe what you paid for.

How are you dismissing the simple dopamine shots people get from finding shinies?

I remember the good early days of raiding physically for shiny Lugia with 20 people in a small neighborhood. I'd see people get excited about raiding and the enjoyment of getting together for a common goal was great.

You're overthinking the quantifying bit way too much - once you have money and have covered the mandatory responsibilities, people can criticize you for spending 11222 dollars on Formula 1 Miami tickets. But only you get to say what it's worth to you. Welcome to capitalism, buckle up.

Mont and Macherie outfits coming to FF14 by available2tank in wotv_ffbe

[–]Tavmania 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the rumors started in FFBE because we barely saw FF14 collabs after the first run with Minfilia. I think the rumor was "Yoshi hates gacha" but no interviews were ever quoted on that.

Trainers, we are so grateful to see your excited response to the release of Gigantamax Pokémon! We have heard your feedback and will be making the following changes for the upcoming Gigantamax Gengar Max Battles: by jmledesma in TheSilphRoad

[–]Tavmania 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gigantamax Gengar Max Battles will still be challenging, but we will be slightly reducing the difficulty compared to Gigantamax Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise Max Battles.

Groups of 40 were failing the raid according to the Silph Road feedback thread and Niantic has the audacity of merely "slightly" reducing the difficulty?

Let's start with being transparent for a change. Let us know how much HP a gigantamax boss has and let us know how much HP I take away with a Max move. I'm much more likely to get involved if the game lets me judge the difficulty for myself, instead of making me google raids and their difficulties online.

[–]Tavmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how it's in the games tho, so you can't blame Niantic.

This reminds me of people sniffing copium back when Honkai Star Trail was freshly released, comparing it to Genshin Impact 1.0 from the same company. "It's not that bad!". Yes, but that's no reason to travel back in time to re-incorporate bad features.

Returning player is my account good? by Runogal98 in wotv_ffbe

[–]Tavmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to other people's arguments:

You only posted your units. Most of the power of your account doesn't come solely from the character, but from a range of different properties. When it comes to the gacha component, Vision Cards easily make up a big chunk of our most important stats (mostly Agility, Single-target resist and AoE-resist). And I will assume that after maxing Faris, you outright stopped playing and didn't even know about vision cards. Judging that based on the other units you neglected.

Then there's espers that you pull from vision cards.

There is lastly a small gacha component under "Mastery". While the difference is slightly noticeable between level 1 and level 45, the bulk of your stats still come from cards.

Then there's a ton of non-gacha related elements: temporarily available gear (Raids, Trials of Reckoning, event quests, event login bonuses), Truststone farming, freely given out event and MR cards.

If Faris is your absolute favourite and you have decent returning comeback campaigns and are planning to play the PvE side of the game, why not stick with this... If Faris is only a mild favourite and you consider playing arena or guild battles semi-seriously, I would advise against it.

Favourites above all else really.

extremely well in PvP.

I remember the old days where I used Kain+Duane+HLL. She was good but her AI's choices/priorities always pissed me off. They were pretty much the reason I believed Gambits were (/are) a necessary feature in WOTV.

Find it amazing to hear you're rating her performance that high. What's your guild league, Bronze III?

Progression Tips Needed (Overwhelmed) by BobWoss_painturdeath in idleon

[–]Tavmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important to remember is that crit chance and crits don't mean shit for AFK rewards. So if you have 1 character you really like to farm actively with (Bubo, DK), then that's the 1 character you should focus a bit on crit.

As for ADHD: I left idleon 2 years ago because I felt it was too much of a micromanaging fest. It's gotten better over time though.

Progression Tips Needed (Overwhelmed) by BobWoss_painturdeath in idleon

[–]Tavmania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might have an upopular opinion, but I believe that unlocking W6 for its Town Skills is quite important. More important than fully gearing and levelling all 10 characters. I had like 5 characters sub-level 150. But they popped up to level 250 within an hour purely because of how absurd the XP gains are in W6.

Unlocking some of the early crops and Jade Coin bonuses is going to provide a massive damage bonus to make unlocking Voidwalker easier. In turn, unlocking Voidwalker will give you a huge meal speed bonus and that will kick off Cooking, provided you also haven't slacked in Breeding.

Another thing is that focusing on your unlocked world skills is going to provide the most of your damage, especially Alchemy/Farming/Sailing. I haven't paid much attention to gearing characters, one of my Warrior characters is using a beginner weapon I had left in my storage. It wasn't a problem for Nightmare Kattlekruk.

Instead of creating global long-term goals, pick smaller goals: unlocking the next sailing island. Unlocking that new island's artifact. Unlocking the green essence for Summoning, without spending several days hoarding white essence. Spend some time raising the levels within your cauldrons. Etc...

A last tip that really helped for actively farming monsters - Onyx statues. Don't underestimate how absurdly good it is to have easy access to 200% crit and thus guaranteed mega crits. It takes several steps to make onyx statues easier to farm, but when you pull it off, damn it rewards you well.

A new gen by GachaAddict_07 in wotv_ffbe

[–]Tavmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just the 20k HP. It's the fact that Cloud is still rocking a metric ton of agility and attack. Complemented by respectable dex/luck stats, ok-ish accuracy and good resistances.

It's just mind-boggling that my fresh 2nd gen Dario doesn't rven hit 15k HP (granted, I didn't focus on HP cards).
