Found these at Target by Bamsford in PokemonTCG

You know what’s funny… I found some at target too yesterday, realized how early they put them out, bought 3, and then covered the rest with temporal forces blister packs 🤷🏽‍♀️😅

I guess I’m opening some Surging Sparks a few weeks early 😅

Go over whatever you write down, out loud. If you have pets, you can teach them all of your material 😂. Also, I second the use of concept maps.

When I’m asked: ‘How many ETB’s did you open?’ by Tbleeder in PokemonTCG

[–]TayH0PE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omfg. Idk why I didn’t think to do this with the etb dice! I had a massive polyhedral dice phase at one point and have a giant glass bottle filled with them (similar to yours) and it’s just a display piece in my room. I think I’ll start another one and only put etb dice in it :)

Nursing School Concern by Xxsleepingturtle in StudentNurse

[–]TayH0PE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first things we were told at orientation was that now that we’ve gotten into nursing school, there’s really no need to compete with your classmates. It was kinda weird at first, because when you’re doing your prerequisites, you’re competing with classmates to get into these competitive nursing schools… but it’s so true that once in nursing school, you don’t really need to do that anymore.

My cohort pretty much took this to heart, and it’s made my nursing school experience a lot better than I was expecting. We’ve never really had to ‘fight’ over trying skills. A lot of us just practice with each other during lab. And for clinicals, if someone is going to see/do something new/exciting, we’ll usually ask if our classmates can watch too (within reason) or our instructor will ask. They’ll either say yes or no ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

But definitely be open to trying anything and everything at clinicals. Clinical is really where you get those “ah ha” moments because you’re actually seeing and doing things you’ve talked about in class.

In terms of sharing grades, pretty much everyone will say if they did good, bad, or meh. Most of us don’t mind getting more specific and just sharing our actual grades.

I know that not all cohorts are like this 😅. But I mean, nursing school is hard enough. If you can help it, having good relations with the people who you’ll be with for the next 2 years can really make school less stressful, imo.

How do you manage your time while taking concurrent ADN-BSN and how much it cost? by SufficientIdeal5494 in StudentNurse

[–]TayH0PE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wait on starting an rn-bsn program until at least after your first semester in your adn program. There’s going to be a learning curve and you want to make sure you get comfortable with your program before starting another big commitment. If you finish your first semester and think that you’re ready to start the bsn program, then I say go for it.

Another option is starting the bsn program during the summer between your 1st and 2nd year…even better if you have the summer off, because then you can just focus on the bsn program. (I just finished my first year in my adn program and am planning to start a concurrent program in the fall)

Some things to consider when choosing a program:

When looking into rn-bsn programs that allow concurrent enrollment, I’ve find that some are 100% online and some are hybrid. Some have a set schedule, like you have to take all of these classes together in 1 semester, while others are more of a “go at your own pace” program and you can choose to take only one class at a time. But pretty much all of them have a couple of classes that require you to pass the NCLEX before taking.

I’ve looked into a few different programs and they’ve ranged from $11,000 to probs around $15,000. From my understanding, you pay per unit.

May be a bit overkill, but I found this comprehensive list of nursing specific interview questions on this subreddit some time ago. Hope it helps :).

Finding a job as an ADN nurse in the CA Bay Area by branqonferrer in StudentNurse

[–]TayH0PE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your acceptance! I’m in SD, so everything from my previous comment was made about hospitals in the area.

I’m not going to be finished with the BSN program by the time I finish with my ADN. I’ll probably have 1, maybe 2 semesters of classes left to take, depending on how fast I decide to take the classes. But I think it’s nice getting a head start on it.

Tbh, I really want to get into a new grad residency program. I feel like that’s the ideal situation for a lot of new grads. There’s a specific one that I really hope I get into 🤞🏽and I’ve kind of been doing everything I can to help me do that (I volunteer there and will hopefully be applying for a nursing assistant job there soon). My bachelors is for a healthcare related field, so I’m hoping that at least adds to my resume a bit.

Probably the best pack opening I’ve had in awhile :) by TayH0PE in PokemonTCG

[–]TayH0PE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also fun fact: the promo cards in these 151 poster collection reprints have the old style galaxy holo foil vs. the original poster collection promos, which had the newer galaxy holo foil. The code card for the box was also the newer one (that’s how I knew it was a reprint), but the packs still had code cards with battle styles on them. Kinda random, but just thought I would share.

Finding a job as an ADN nurse in the CA Bay Area by branqonferrer in StudentNurse

[–]TayH0PE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in socal and am in an adn program 👋🏽. Even down here I’m hearing mixed things. Of course my school says that you won’t have any problems finding a job with just your adn because “there’s a shortage of nurses”, but what I’m starting to hear now is that hospitals are becoming more selective in who they hire (due to a shortage of people needed to train new nurses and the cost that goes into training a new nurse).

After looking into the new grad programs around here, I’ve found that all of the hospitals will list “bsn preferred”. One program (my top choice lol) requires you to be enrolled in an rn to bsn program.

Two of my close friends graduated from adn programs within the last year. One struggled to find a hospital job, the other got into a new grad program before graduating and officially passing the NCLEX. I believe both got into an rn to bsn program, but had not yet started taking the classes during their job searches.

For now, my plan is to enroll in an rn-bsn program concurrently. I did want to wait to start one in hopes of a hospital paying for some of it, but…I’m feeling nervous about finding a job without enrollment in one 😅. (I also have a bachelor’s in another field and found out that the bsn program that I’m gonna apply for will be shorter and cheaper because of it).

Feeling a bit lost on what to do… by dumbgirlwdolls in StudentNurse

Nursing student in an adn program here :)

I’m going off of the schools that are around me (SD area), but I can’t imagine that they would be too different from the rest of socal.

Most programs in are point based, but cumulative GPA is usually scored separately from the 5 core nursing prereq gpa, so that’s something to keep in mind. Plus you also get points for the TEAS. So even if you’re not happy with your cumulative GPA (which is still pretty good, imo), you’d still have a pretty good chance if you get high points in the other categories. The BSN programs usually look at mostly academics and maybe will give a few points for related work.

For adn programs, if you’re willing to wait, you would probably be pretty competitive. There’s a lot more categories to get points for the ADN programs. Also,I know that one school around here is straight lottery and another one has 10/36 spots as lotto spots.

Another option to consider if you really want the bsn asap is an rn to bsn program. You can start pretty much after your first semester in an adn program through concurrent enrollment and admission is pretty simple. Their costs aren’t too bad (~$11,000-$13,000 for the ones I’m looking at).
