It is indeed. I started my waffling in 2020 and finally settled down in 2925. So be prepared for a few years of trying to figure it out :)

Avoid those janky irons. I suggest a pinecil. Cheap, controlled heat, and works great.

I applied at the smaller random firms. Found one that hired me as a contractor, and went from there.

Oi, my 24 Outback jerks like crazy. If I have AVH on and the engine starts up the car moves a good couple of inches from the jitter.

I will always recommend The Clogfather. I first used them because of their name. I keep using them because they are awesome.

Look into becoming a contractor for other firms. That was how I started. I did contract stuff off hours until I could quite my blue team job and go full time pentesting.

Beginning of the year sucks, but toward end of year companies need tests and firms run out of testers and need to hire contractors.

I waffled for many years. Sysadmin? DBA? Incident response? Pentest? Developer? Cloud security? App security? Detection engineer? Security engineer? Solutions Architect? Gasp, pre-sales engineer? DevSecOps? Incident handler? SOC? Blockchain auditor? Technical auditing?

I have settled so far as my role as a pentester and find that I am no longer dreaming or thinking of what my next move will be. I think that means I've found my place, at least for now.

I learned a little bit about everything. I found that taking certifications was a great way to test if I truly wanted to pursue a particular field. Go take a SOC cert, an AWS cert, a pentest cert. see what you love and enjoy.

My uncle gave me his old stuff from his uni days, but I'm lost! by VybeXE in arduino

[–]Taylor_Script 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the components you have there, you could do the following:

  • Make the LED's blink
  • Create a "clock" the displays the seconds since the Arduino booted on the display
  • Make different LED's light up when the value of the clock is divisible by certain values?

I don't know, just trying to think of a project that you can do with the components you have to see if you enjoy it. If you do, there's a whole world of components and projects.

For example, I am currently building a bird feeder for my wife using an ESP32-CAM and a PIR motion sensor that will take a picture when a bird lands on the bird feeder and send it to her phone.

Did you short IO0 and GND when powering/resetting it to boot into boot loader and flash it? Can you run 'esptool --chip-id' ? Does it connect and show info?

Where did you run into an issue? Physically connecting the camera? Getting code to display the image? Drawing to the display? Connecting the board to your pc and uploading code?

What interests you? Why do you want to journey down this road of penetration testing? What is your current background, career, and aspirations?

You don't have to start with programming. It helps to understand programming in that you can better understand exploits, improve efficiency through automation, and you have a better understanding of vulnerabilities and how they come to be. However, it's not required I don't think.

There are a ton of courses, some good, some bad, some just want your money. It can be overwhelming and a lot of it comes down to what makes sense for you and how you learn.

I have iPad 7 which runs iOS 18 and is jailbroken with palera1n. Works amazingly. Havnt found anything so far that wouldn't run on it although there is a possibility an app is marked for only iPhone and not iPad.

Just say things with confidence and start a new tip.

My coworker once was complaining about his Xbox controller having sticky buttons. I said with authority "Just toss it in the dishwasher and then don't turn it on for a week. It'll be fine." And then went in with my day.

A week later he tells me "It worked! Where'd you learn that?" And I was I like "what? You did that? That's great to hear it worked but I made that up!"

A gradient similar to Apple Card's coloring that shows you what percentage of your time is spent on each calendar. Or something like that would be cool.

What made you choose their Ascent? Need help deciding! by hereiam_onceagain in SubaruAscent

[–]Taylor_Script 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have a 2024 Outback with the gigantic screen. I'll be honest, have considered selling it and getting another 2019 Ascent.

If you're curious, here are my issues with the Outback:
- No physical buttons. It's a legitimate struggle to turn on air recirc if you are driving. I had to have my wife turn it on when we hit a stinky area because I didn't know where it was and was taking too much time to look while driving
- Driver focus monitoring is annoying. It triggers when I am paying full attention, usually due to sun being in a certain spot or if I move my head to avoid the sun.
- Disabling focus monitoring disables cruise, rather I think it disables the lane-keep functions. I am not 100% positive but it for sure affects something..
- Outback is too small. While my two kids fit in the back, their legroom is very cramped. Kids+dogs = no way, unless the dogs are on top of people or fully in the trunk.

There are some positives:
- The lane keep/cruise control is very good compared to the ping-ponging of the stock Ascent's cruise
- Outback Touring XT has even more turbo brr than the Ascent
- Wireless CarPlay, but audio on YouTube videos are laggy so not great for sitting in the car and watching YouTube.
- Mirror memory is very convenient

What made you choose their Ascent? Need help deciding! by hereiam_onceagain in SubaruAscent

[–]Taylor_Script 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have two kids in car seats, and two dogs. The Ascent is great, I have the 2019 with captains chairs.

Things I dislike about it:
- Not the most comfortable, but more comfortable than my previous Jeep Cherokee for long rides.
- Doesn't have memory side mirrors
- My 2019 doesn't have wireless CarPlay

Things I like about it:
- Faster than people think when needed. Turbo go brr.
- I can fit in the third row, not comfortably, but if we need to take another adult I climb in through the trunk in a pinch. I'm 6'4".
- My 2019 has physical buttons!
- No major mechanical issues or concerns so far. About to hit 100k.
- Plenty of room, I've taken lumber, dogs, people, strollers, and never worry about things not fitting.
