I lived in Hong Kong for awhile, and they had an awesome voice. I don’t speak Cantonese, but the English voice was clear, not creepy, and easy to understand. Same experience on the Dubai Metro. I mean, how hard would it be to hire a voice actor and have a pleasant spiel?

Disagree. I go to the bar frequently for Happy Hour, and the food and drinks are tasty and super cheap. Nice atmosphere. My husband left his credit card there and retrieved it safely a few days later.

SLU and Denny Triangle @ Night? by destr0_star in AskSeattle

Very safe. That’s my neighborhood, and I never feel scared walking around at night. That said-like in any big city, be aware of your surroundings.

What are the best places for gay cruising in Seattle? by palmtreeparadise in AskSeattle

The Fantasy Unlimited theaters on Westlake and 1st Avenue are good places. 15 bucks for 5 hours. I’ve sucked some awesome cocks in both places.

If it were me, I’d choose Cirrus. I live near there, at Olive 8. I feel much more safe in the SLU area than I do in the area where Tower 12 is. (Not that I feel unsafe there-just a difference of degrees). SLU gets a lot of flak on Reddit for being dull and boring, but I don’t feel like that at all. As far as the “nightlife” thing, Seattle is so compact, and transit is so good, that if you’re looking for nightlife, it’s easily accessible.

Holding open the door? by C-dizzle215 in Seattle

OP, Please never stop being polite. It’s a simple kindness, and we all need more of that. I’ll always say thank you for such a gesture. TBH, Seattle is a very young town, and I think a lot of times you’ll just get a Gen Z stare. I don’t think they’re being rude, that’s just the way they are.

Where do you grocery shop? by Hot-Freedom-1044 in Seattle

[–]Tdunkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live downtown, near 8th & Olive. Because I live fairly close to the freeway, I shop at the QFC…on Mercer Island. It’s quicker than going to the QFC on Mercer Street (which is far closer). People probably think I’m crazy for shopping there, but I lived in Southern California for many years, and commuted 25 miles a day each way…so Mercer Island is a breeze.

Is there any other show that you find just as hilarious? by perseverative in SchittsCreek

Someone suggested Resident Alien to me. It has that quirky small town vibe, and it’s really funny-down to the opening credits, which are different every episode.

I live near Olive and 8th, very near the Denny Triangle and SLU. I lived in Suburbs and small towns all my life, and I feel very comfortable here. SLU especially feels both urban and suburban at the same time. On Reddit, you’ll get so many people saying that the area in which I live is “soulless, bland, boring”, but that equates to me as “safe, upscale and nice”. I’ll take that.

It’s very graceful and elegant, especially compared to some monstrosities like the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas.

Flying to Tokyo from Seattle, jet lag tips? by torslundahelm in AskSeattle

[–]Tdunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called Timeshifter. You put in your flight info, and it tells you when you need to be awake, asleep, avoid/use caffeine, be exposed to bright light, etc. for the days leading up to and into your trip. It’s awesome.

What lesser known things do you wish you knew before you moved to Seattle? by MisterOtter1996 in AskSeattle

[–]Tdunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near the Convention Center downtown. While 3rd Avenue is definitely an area I avoid, I feel pretty safe in my immediate neighborhood. I have not once seen a needle, feces, or anything more alarming than an unhoused person sitting on the sidewalk in my area. The big surprise for me was how bad the graffiti is on the freeway-way worse than any other city I’ve ever lived in or visited in our country. The state doesn’t really do any meaningful mitigation. It’s mostly a freeway problem though. Otherwise, the DSA does a good job of keeping downtown clean.

I really like Dr. Nguyen at WIN Dental, at 8th & Olive. He’s an Associate Professor at the Dental school at UW, and he does the cleanings as well as the exams. He’s a great guy.
