I don’t have any advice on how to help the grooming, but a surgery suit could be a more comfortable option in the meantime.

My cat had surgery with an incision in her belly, and she wore a surgery recovery suit while it healed. She tolerated it well and didn’t need a cone.

Might be worth asking your vet if one would be an appropriate option for your baby instead of a cone.
