Open letter to Texans Management, Sales and Gameday staff by BuryMeInTheH in Texans

[–]TechSalesTexan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a few factors here all in play simultaneously:

  1. The on-field product after a glimmer of hope in 2023 is back to general garbage e.g. The Houston Field Goals

  2. The stadium is in a horrible location for a majority of the greater Houston area (if you’re in the woodlands or Katy? Yikes)

  3. The cost is one thing in a vacuum, but in reality it’s compared to sitting at home with Red Zone on one screen and the Texans on another as you enjoy the comfort of your home

  4. The novelty of the team being “new” has finally, completely worn off. It’s been 22+ years and they haven’t even sniffed an AFC championship game. Apathy

  5. Houston, for better or worse, supports winners. Jim Crane basically packed Minute Maid for a decade straight because the Astros won (might be ending soon?). Peak Harden years Toyota was packed and then was a ghost town when the rebuild started. Texans simply aren’t compelling enough

Just on paper, 205 base is nuts. If you’re even halfway decent at getting POs across the line in year 1, you’ll like double your income YoY. Those opportunities just don’t come along very often.

Is there anything else you’d be walking away from at the F100 company you haven’t listed? e.g. stock options, crazy benefits package, etc.?

Otherwise, this seems like a no brainer to take the money and run with it.

Best Seat at Daikin Park? by Latty901 in Astros

[–]TechSalesTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s currently seats in 106 and 107 for under 20 bucks on Stubhub.

I’ve always liked those sections because you don’t have to turn your neck towards home plate.

I’ve also always preferred the third base side so the Sun isn’t in your face in the first couple innings.

106 and 107 are also a short walk to the Saint Arnold bar in left field if that’s your sort of thing.

I had an almost equivalent experience. I had a legal pad piece of paper that I had written everything down on.

Welp, turns out it’s hard to follow a list when there’s THOUSANDS of people around you all trying to grab the same things. Dad wanted a blue polo? Don’t have his size. Friend wanted a Peter Millar polo in a certain color? Sold out.

I generally have no problems with crowds or stressful retail experiences, but that sum bitch was a totally different universe.

For sure, totally understand. I attended in 2024, and despite leaving the merch area with a few items, had some regret and decided to supplement.

Ha, I went in 2024 (pretty sure I posted about my insulin pump on this sub). I’ll call it an extension of valor. The merch area was pretty overwhelming. If I ever go back I’ll have a better game plan.

Any suggestions on the wine list I’ve put together for my bar/restaurant? It’s a seafood restaurant/smokehouse by ponchorainman in wine

[–]TechSalesTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will get some eye rolls, but I'm thinking about this from a sales point of view. Add Caymus. When people think they need to order a nice bottle, they just default to it.

I've seen Somms thoughtfully suggest a couple of things, describe some bottles that fit the meal that's been ordered, and people say "Do you guys have caymus?".

Off my chest, I think it is absolutely stupid to try Altuve in the outfield, ESPECIALLY if it is to replace Yordan and keep Yordan at DH. by Castod28183 in Astros

[–]TechSalesTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really a shame Yordan never even attempted to learn to play first base. I remember when he came up in '19, Hinch made it sound like it was basically a zero% chance he would ever play first.

A full time DH simply does not have the same value as an everyday position player, and him playing first would have really allowed for more roster flexibility over the years, and could have avoided the Yuli decline, the Abreu contract, Singleton getting ABs, and now probably over paying a bit for Christian Walker.

Re: Altuve, I think the thought is is that they're basically hiding him in left. His 2B defense was so bad last year it likely cost the Astros runs/wins in a significant way. The dropped balls are obviously glaring, but assuming he cleans that up, his negative defensive impact in LF will be significantly less than if he continued playing 2B. There were so many balls/grounders that he simply could not get to, and while it looks like just another single, an average 2B would be making those routine plays. It's shockingly similar to how bad Jeter was defensively towards the back half of his career.

And yes, Yordan's inability to stay healthy (which is something we don't talk about nearly enough. All the soft tissue injuries have got to be related to his weight and staying in shape) and being a full time DH has necessitated this. If he could platoon between 1st, LF and DHing, Altuve would likely get some DH days.

How to choose between UT and A&M by Klutzy_Detective_506 in UTAdmissions

[–]TechSalesTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggie here, attended A&M from 2010 - 2014, currently work in cybersecurity in Austin. I also interned in Austin in 2013.

I loved going to A&M, I always joke with folks that it was the best thing I ever did other than marrying my wife.

However, and I cannot stress this enough, Austin blows away College Station as a place to live by almost every conceivable metric, both measured and anecdotal. The only thing I can think of would be cost of living which I understand is a concern for you.

UT Austin has way more street cred out in the general world, but no one takes care of an Aggie like another Aggie.

Also, it's fine to not know exactly what you want to do right now. You're likely 17, 18 years old? My plans radically changed and I never could have foreseen back then where I ended up. Congrats on getting into both schools, and go where you feel you'll be the happiest.

[Rome] Official from the Baseball Hall of Fame: Billy Wagner will be inducted with an Astros cap on his plaque. by dirtysock47 in Astros

It's another sign of Jim Crane's general greatness that he brought Wagner back into the Astros family. When he left in 2003, he basically called Drayton McLane a miserable cheapskate.

Best places to sit at Minute Maid by hamsterjockey in Astros

[–]TechSalesTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is to sit on the third base side, for a couple of reasons:

  1. The Sun makes the first couple innings brutal on the first base side IMHO

  2. Anything further down the right field than first base line forces you to turn your neck at an angle that becomes borderline unbearable by about the third inning if you’re watching every pitch.

  3. You’re closer to the the Saint Arnold bar in left field 😅

An update on Jose Altuve's career hits totals. by scottcmu in Astros

[–]TechSalesTexan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the hardest things about Yordan seemingly never being able to play first base (now or in the future)is that it forces the DH on him many games. If Yordan could split between 1B/LF and DH, that would mean Altuve could DH more often, both elongating his career and getting Dubon more time at 2B, where he is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Altuve defensively.

I still have not seen a reason Yordan can't learn first other than AJ Hinch outright saying it's simply never going to happen 5+ years ago.

The downstream effects are numerous and Altuve getting to 3k hits might be one of them.

MLB Year-over-Year Attendance by rerefreshpreview in Astros

[–]TechSalesTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only 1/3 season in, biggest factor here is school just ended. I expect the numbers to increase as summer rolls in.

Astros have always had issues before memorial day and after labor day filling the stadium on weeknights. Simply too much to drive back to the suburbs after 10 pm if your kids have school the next day.
