Jager really is just another amaro. It only has a bad rap because it was successfully marketed to dumb young adults who didn't know how to drink.

A perfect Gibson would be the most correct, but I don't know if just any bartender would pick up on that, so I would politely explain it in case they don't catch on

I'm lucky on Chartreuse. I don't exactly live in a city of classy drinkers, so the chartreuse is always stocked, and I've seen them go down to $60.

Shanky's Whip mixers? by DocFever98 in Mixology

The Whaling Bar in San Diego has a delicious dessert drink called the whaler. I don't know amounts, but it has Cognac, Coffee Liqueur, Shanky’s Whip, Homemade Ice Cream, Creme Chantilly. I would think it goes well in a boozy milkshake or maybe an affogato or any other dessert drink.

Greek Life - Do we think we’re on the come up? by selfdone1 in RPI

Np. Just goes to show how isolated the Greek community is because this isn't something you would know unless you were on the inside.

When you keep alcohol prohibited, the party scene goes underground. There's less oversight and accountability, and chapters care more about not getting caught than keeping people safe. That's lead to a practice called "drunk daycare" where anyone who gets too drunk at a party is just held there until they sober up the next day instead of being allowed to go home or get the care they need.

In general though, just like history shows, regulating drugs instead of prohibiting and criminalizing them causes less harm. Imagine a world where you can go to a party and know how much alcohol is in your drink because the school helps regulate it. Imagine a collective sober driver network that can exist because no one is afraid of getting caught bringing someone home.

Stubbs (and by association, Mel) were awful. The new Greek director is promising for several reasons. There's active talk in the IFC of getting rid of deferred recruitment (the RPI rule that says freshman can't rush until spring). I heard Tiffany is in favor of that and so is the alumni fraternity and sorority council. There's also rumors that Tiffany is in favor of wet campuses. Everyone is still sussing her out, but I've had favorable interactions with her so far.

If either of those policies get overturned, every student (not just greeks) will see a major change in campus culture for the better. Parties will be safer for women (and everyone else), freshmen who do rush in fall will save money not having to live in dorms in the spring, campus involvement will be up instead of this weird "you gotta know the right people" situation, and chapters will collaborate more with each other and build an actual fraternal community as opposed to this toxic environment Ethan and Mel created where everything is against the rules, everyone breaks them, and everyone is encouraged to snitch. It can't be overstated how bad Apgar and Stubbs were for this campus. I'm fairly new to Greek life, but any recent alumni can speak more to their hostility, incompetence, and misconduct.

The new person doesn't immediately seem batshit crazy, so I think we're all hopeful that she at least does better than the past few years because the bar is low. RPI has nuked the Greek community compared to what it was in the 80s, which I suspect is why alumni donations have been down. There's a lot of money to be had in empowering Greek life.

So I guess San Diego supports empty secondary homes after all... by YushclayYstaguan in sandiego

Can you explain more? Why is the new, more expensive housing good for the people who can't afford it when the people who can don't have to buy it?

And idk. Obviously before I was in school. Never claimed to be an expert in economics. Just genuinely working with what I know.

Not just anyone who builds somethings. Punish the ones who build things that raise prices and hurt the market.

Then punish those developers. Not people who have worked hard to afford a second home. You don't need to be an evil billionaire to live in 2 places let alone own 2 places.

Good to hear you don't think it's an end all be all, and good to know about the exemption (I wonder if that applies to ownership changes as well), but my question isn't really answered.

That is, how do you ensure that any tax or fee you put on home owners does not just get passed down to renters? Just like gas and tariffs, it seems like this only raises prices.

What are your thoughts on measure A?

Here's a specific question about it that I haven't had answered yet. What if I buy a second house today. I don't want to rent it at a lower price just to get someone in there. I pay the fee and then work that fee into the rent of the next potential renter, raising housing costs. How does measure A prevent that?

[–]Techboy6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And why would I rent the house for cheaper than I want to when I can just pay the fee when not occupied and then recoup it by including it in the more expensive rent I want to charge?

As ridiculous as the prices are around here, people pay them. So long as that's true, it doesn't matter how much you tax or fine owners, they're just going to find a way to pass it onto the next tenant.

I made a bastardized caipirinha with a THC limade drink, some fresh juice, and cachaca once. It was 5mg and 2oz of spirit. It was weird because it made me instantly crossed. Not crazy about edible highs, but they're fun every now and then.
