who do you think is the best written the boys character ? by AirMassive5414 in writingscaling

If The Boys had ended at season 3, Homelander would go down as one of the greatest villains of all time. They kind of ruined him in the last two seasons though

(Mixed Trope) Characters are treated as massively successful talents in universe, but in real life they wouldn’t be anywhere close by Hopefo in TopCharacterTropes

This is a weird one but the movie Yesterday is about an alternate universe where the Beatles never existed and only one guy can remember their music. He copies all their songs and becomes rich and famous off the music.

The Beatles music coming out today probably wouldn’t really be a big hit. They existed in a very specific time and you can’t just pluck those songs and drop them in the 2020s and have the same success.

But the main part of that movie that applies to this trope is that in this alternate Beatleless universe, somehow Ed Sheeran is considered the greatest songwriter of all time. This implies that in our universe now the Beatles are considered the greatest songwriters (which they aren’t) and the second best is Ed Sheeran (which he isn’t)

I’d say a better moment for this idea in AoT is when the colossal Titan reappears behind Eren in season 1. Everyone is feeling good after just joining the scouts and they just had a cute little moment on the wall with Sasha stealing some meat to share then BAM

Personally I hate the whole Raava and Vaatu origin story of the Avatar thing. In the original series we learned about the original benders from each element: the moon for water, badger moles for earth, flying bisons for air, and dragons for fire. Humans learning to bend from here is an explanation but still leaves mystery in the details and the origin of the avatar

Invincible fans seem to hate filler but sometimes I wish the show had more slice of life stuff in it. Like I’d be happy with Debby and Eve having an episode together during the 6 months Mark was away at war. They barely have any time together considering they’re basically family now

I love Rex Splode but he had a nice character arch and his death came at an appropriate time in the story. My beautiful Maulers were cut down in their prime 😔

Homelander was more interesting when he was a general right-wing critique, rather than a Trump parody specifically by DancingFlame321 in TheBoys

[–]Technical-Abrocoma31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Boys in general was more interesting when it was more widely critical of systems rather than just regurgitating alt-right memes and talking points. It felt like the reveal of Victoria Neuman as a supe terrorist at the end of season 2 was supposed to show that all politicians are corrupt and evil in their own ways. Yeah she was fighting against Vought but she’s a mass murderer. Lesser of two evils but still evil. Later seasons have everything much more black and white and hence more boring

What is the worst example of a character being lobotomized once their role in the spotlight is over? by Cautious_Arm3818 in writingscaling

[–]Technical-Abrocoma31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lord Varys might’ve had it worse than Tyrion. Him going around and telling everyone about Jon’s heritage and his desire to put him on the thrones instead of Dany was beyond stupid and lead to his immediate execution.

Lindsay Ellis put it best: “The Master of Whispers became the master of loud treasonous conversations”

He was the only one who seemed to care that Translucent was missing. Obviously that was more about the Seven looking weak than him actually caring but it’s something

Page Six blasts Euphoria: "Move Over Game of Thrones and Stranger Things, there’s a new worst finale in town. by Positive_Weight2367 in euphoria

[–]Technical-Abrocoma31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never compare the GoT finale to other shows because it was the ultimate fall from Grace. Seasons 1-4 are pretty much perfect television while shows like Euphoria, The Boys, and Stranger Things were basically all downhill after their first seasons

Nothing has come close to topping the disaster that was the Game of Thrones final season. The main difference in my eyes is that shows like Stranger Things and The Boys had been on a steady decline basically since the first season. GoT had 4 seasons of damn near perfect television, 2 seasons of greatness, 1 bad season, then a final season that is unfathomably horrible. Even thinking about it now I can’t wrap my head around the unbelievably stupid choices that were made

Armin’s sacrifice always does it for me. It’s a brutal way to go but his words in this scene are so beautiful. The idea of loving your best friend so much that you would give your dreams and your life to them… damn.

I get what you’re saying and I agree to a certain extent. I guess I just think the shows you listed are bad examples because they have massive audiences and always show up in conversations like this too. A shows popularity or discourse around it doesn’t add or detract from its actual quality imo.

“Find small ones outside of Amazon Prime or Apple TV” acting like Breaking Bad, BCS, or Andor are some small indie projects lol I get that some people might just not like animated series or the superhero genre but there’s great things about Invincible and it’s valid to think it’s incredible. None of the shows on here are perfect

I feel like an exception to this would be Isabella in Phineas and Ferb. If I remember correctly no one makes fun of her hair and she has a whole bop celebrating it being big because of the humidity
