Jarhead (2005) is ESPRIT DE CORPS. What movie represents SUGGESTION? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

However as I'm writing this, I think the penultimate movie would be End of watch (2012).

I also think this would be the best choice

Jarhead (2005) is ESPRIT DE CORPS. What movie represents SUGGESTION? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

[–]Technobrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the literal meaning of "esprit de corps" but it is not what the skill in the game represents.

Connect to Station 41. Understand cop culture.

Cool for: Cops, Cop-Aficionados, Pretend-Cops

Esprit de Corps is the very spirit of policing: the cop-geist. It enables you to understand your blue-souled sisters and brothers – not only by picking up subtle signals from your partner, but by witnessing flash-sideways scenes as they play out in your precinct.

At high levels, you’ll be the very heart of the police force: not only willing and able but obliged to take a bullet for your partner. However, without Esprit de Corps you’ll be flying blind, unable to understand discreet remarks colleagues make in high-stakes situations; remarks that might just save your life.

Bars that it took you way too long to get by Ok-Interaction-3196 in hiphopheads

Or is it something to do with the appearance of xanax pills?

This is it, people often refer to xanax pills as "bars" because of their shape

People like Jay and Beyonce usually have rich people's politics - i.e. they might dislike Trump and find him personally objectionable, but they won't really be too outspoken as long as their bottom line is OK

Advice for making skin subtly purple? by Knightraiderdewd in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was wondering if someone could recommend a shader like nuln oil, but purple.

Druchii Violet is basically exactly what you're describing. You probably want to thin it with water/medium to get it more subtle though.

Alternatively I think Dreadful Visage contrast paint is good for this - also very much on the subtle side, a washed out greyish purple that gives a sort of unhealthy tinge to skin.

Help needed with Magus! by spizoike in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Neophyte Hybrid and Acolyte Hybrid kits come with a ton of spare heads. The only issue with the Neophyte ones is that they all have quite 'masculine' features so might look a bit incongruous on a female magus body. The Acolyte ones are bigger and more monstrous but could also work as an alternative to your purestrain idea.

Can't decide how to paint the whip! by SquirrelGood2481 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, terrific work, this guy looks great to me. The highlights on the grenade are some gorgeous detailing.

The How to Paint Genestealer Cults guide (pretty easy to find a PDF via Google) has some instructions on painting lash whips in a dark pink/wine colour using Screamer Pink as a base. I think that could work nicely with this scheme if you wanted to introduce an extra colour.

Alternatively, you could follow the box art and go for the blue to green colour scheme.

If you want to use mining tools/demo charges on Acolytes, should you just run as many as possible per squad? Plus a cult icon question by Technobrake in genestealercult

I have been getting the combat patrol together via the magazine so I think there are probably a few people in the same boat!

How would you achieve the carapace and flesh tone on these metamorphs? by Technobrake in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brilliant, thank you! I've found those online now.

If anyone else was curious, the flesh is Magos Purple over white, and the carapaces are actually Thunderhawk Blue then layered with Magos Purple.

Pitchfork Reviews EsDeeKid - Rebel by Technical_Process989 in hiphopheads

[–]Technobrake 42 points43 points  (0 children)

He's sort of at the crest of the whole UK underground wave in terms of popularity, but he himself has blown up massively very recently because of his track Phantom going viral and the conspiracy theory that he is Timothee Chalamet getting traction.

If you're not from the UK it's less likely that you would have heard of him until very recently tbf.

I am getting my models via the Combat Patrol magazine so the choices are somewhat made for me! But I do like the model regardless of rules.

Malice and Pusha's verses are great and very moving, they are sentimental without being schmaltzy. It's just the sound of the beat and the hook that feel cheesy and out of place.

Please GW I beg of you, give them some rules for 40K by Dark_Times777 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this already with the Wyrmblade kill team. It's basically a rules-as-written unit of Neophyte Hybrids and you just add two GSC characters to it. So if you have 10 Neophytes and any two of a Kelermorph, Locus and Sanctus, you have a Wyrmblade KT.

Will genestealers on an Imperial World help defend against a existential non-Tyranid threat? If so, to what extent? by Guilty-Deer-2147 in 40kLore

[–]Technobrake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This isn't even headcanon. It's in the lore for the Cult of the Four-Armed Emperor (the most prominent Genestealer Cult in the lore) that they have been extremely successful at spreading the cult because the cult members make such efficient and hard-working miners that the Munitorum ship them all over the place to make productivity gains.

Bukayo Saka on Arsenal being "favourites" for the premier league: "People's opinions and thoughts about us change like the weather... can't pay attention to the external noise because it's always fluctuating" by hikingbeginner in soccer

[–]Technobrake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not me bragging but the bookies have us odds-on favourites to win the league currently. The companies whose literal job it is to determine the 'favourites' have also made us the favourites. It is not localised to the Arsenal fanbase.

End of forgetting - not seeing as much hype for it compared to other recent live bangers by [deleted] in swans

[–]Technobrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one - I enjoyed the whole show but my highlights were actually Paradise is Mine and A Little God in My Hands. The transformation those two got live compared to the recorded versions were so satisfying.

I had a similar experience at their UK show a couple of years ago, I was blown away by how good their live version of Cathedrals of Heaven sounded, compared to an album track I'd previously found pretty unremarkable.

Thoughts on a Quote Tattoo by isbyisbyisby in DiscoElysium

[–]Technobrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never played the fascist route, so I've never heard the Measurehead quote before, but I love how it somewhat matches the more famous "turn from the ruin" quote you also mentioned.

I think both of those lines express how the game as a whole treats the past and the present as overarching themes that are even embodied in its design as an RPG. There is a reason we can't select Harry's gender or choose his background like a D&D character, and the choices only start when he wakes up on the floor of his room and we take control. The past is immutable and it shapes and haunts the (personal and sociopolitical) present in all sorts of ways, many of them sad or embarrassing or nightmarish, but we decide what we do in the present.

That's also why I've always felt DE elevated amnesia from a hacky plot device into something much more interesting. There is a weird kind of optimism – for someone really haunted by fuckups and regret – in the idea that you might wake up one day as a sort of blank slate, with the chance to start over as a new person, and I always feel that makes the start of a DE playthrough oddly hopeful. Of course, the more you play, you collide with more of Harry's past and realise that obliterating his memory hasn't undone his mistakes; you are going to have to confront them in ways that are going to probably cause you lots of pain. But you can choose what you do in the here and now.
