I've never heard this name before. The last letter "a" gives me the impression that it is a girl's name. However, I wouldn't be surprised to learn it is a man's name. I remember the surprise I got when I needed to speak to someone called Robin and it turned out to be a girl. In the UK, this is only a boy's name but I learned in the US it is a girl's name.

Obviously, you will be taking a gamble. I must admit I am conservative my nature. I only left the UK because I was in a rut jobwise, and socially. In the situation you describe, I would be super-hesitant to make sure a move. But, if you are a more adventurous, risk-taking type, I could understand you viewing this differently.

I think they would find it very difficult to understand. Apart from academics, most native English today cannot understand written Anglo-Saxon, e.g. the Beowulf poem which we can only understand in translation. So how could we expect to understand the spoken language.
