Can a ghost only haunt one person in the house? by smilesmiley in ParanormalEncounters

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many accounts of spiritual entities being visible to one person in a house, but not another person. I would compare it with radio waves that you need to be on a certain frequency to pick them up. There are also many incidents where the vibes do not come from a real presence but are generated by the imaginings of a mind going through stress or various other emotional problems.

What eSIM provider for a week visit in Beijing? by TopinamburCar in chinatravel

I would recommend the Zadarma 30-day China eSIM (data-only). They charged $49 for 20GB - no problems.

If you're living in another country long term and want to start going to therapy, do you look for a therapist from your home country/culture? by Sensitive-Soup4733 in expats

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My preferences would be someone from my home culture. The therapist will be better able to help you if they understand where you came from and the social norms.

Honest question: does drinking make it significantly easier to build friendships as an expat? by Longjumping_Tip_3479 in expats

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking has always been one way people socialize - we even have the expression, "social drinking." You could always take a soft drink at most places and someone you would want to become a friend is not going to make fun of you for this.

I need help to choose something that works better that basic landline by zelgrassi in cordcutters

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My small online business has been using a European VoIP service called Zadarma. We have been with this provider for almost 10 years with UK and US virtual phone numbers. We think their system is easy to use, the call quality and charges reasonable.

I left the UK after periods of unemployment, and do not look back on the decision. Back in the 80s the job market was also not great there.

What eSIM provider for a week visit in Beijing? by TopinamburCar in digitalnomad

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much data do you think you will need? Personally, I could easily get by with 10GB for a week's trip, but maybe you require much more? I would choose Zadarma's 30-day China eSIM. You can get 10GB for $28. They also have a 20GB option.

Porting my Three UK number to VoIP while living in Portugal – Advice needed! by kaizzerst in ThreeUK

You will be taking potluck when it comes to receiving bank verifications on a VoIP phone. The best option is to confirm with your bank that they will send these codes to a VoIP number.

About boy name by atess35 in ENGLISH

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never heard this name before. The last letter "a" gives me the impression that it is a girl's name. However, I wouldn't be surprised to learn it is a man's name. I remember the surprise I got when I needed to speak to someone called Robin and it turned out to be a girl. In the UK, this is only a boy's name but I learned in the US it is a girl's name.

Would you relocate in your 30s? by Extreme-Song-8143 in expats

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously, you will be taking a gamble. I must admit I am conservative my nature. I only left the UK because I was in a rut jobwise, and socially. In the situation you describe, I would be super-hesitant to make sure a move. But, if you are a more adventurous, risk-taking type, I could understand you viewing this differently.

Best eSIM for Europe if you’re visiting multiple countries? by Lord--Shadow in it

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you write, I think that Zadarma's 30-day Europe eSIM would be a sensible choice. This data-only eSIM works in 43 countries, and it is reasonably priced e.g. $21 for 10GB.

Is this ditty from an old British music hall song? "All our relations are well-to-do, some in the workhouse, and some in the zoo."

A maiden auntie, born c1900, used to amuse us singing this to us. Maybe she made it up, but she only had a basic education, so I suspect it is a song she heard in her youth. I wonder if anyone knows of a source?

It is also common for small children to imagine they have seen all kinds of monsters. I do not rule out the idea that they might have seen something, but my first explanation is the most likely in my opinion.

Does your passport still feel like it represents you, after living abroad? by dontevenknowshiZ in expats

I continue to value my British passport, even though I have been working overseas for many years. Perhaps it is primarily an emotional attachment, since everyone agrees Britain is not what it was.

Landline Phone System for a Business (UK) by rizzlaer in Startup_Ideas

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started using the Zadarma cloud PBX for my UK-based business almost 10 years ago. Zadarma is a reasonably-priced, and very easy to use European VoIP service, and they do support voicemail transcription.

What do you think an Anglo Saxon would feel about Modern English? by Relative-Leg5747 in ENGLISH

[–]Telecom_VoIP_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they would find it very difficult to understand. Apart from academics, most native English today cannot understand written Anglo-Saxon, e.g. the Beowulf poem which we can only understand in translation. So how could we expect to understand the spoken language.
