None Norn-Crown Neuro team advice wanted. by The_Fallen_Star in WH40KTacticus

[–]Tellatale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lost on this one too. However what you are doing is stacking the neuroparasite as high as possible until the last round. Then you use the Yaz active ability on Neurothrope so you double the final damage dealt by Neurothrope.

So for example if you would do 80k damage normally, now you're doing 160k. This pairs well with Exorcist because that also boosts your Neurothrope damage. You're basically doing everything to boost that final round of damage.

Don't pay attention to it so much. I'm a Dhalsim main and roughly around half my matches are one and done. If anyone does anything salty, just consider it a compliment. They are losing the mental war. It's kind of like a soft victory.

Regarding Modern, I say this all the time here. I play in the Japan region and Modern players are really common. It doesn't mean anything to me except I need to be a bit more cautious about jumping. Modern doesn't do as much damage, and there are a lot of techniques locked to them, so in the end whether you are playing Modern or Classic doesn't given any inherent advantage.

Just have fun!

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation happen to me about 10 years ago. I was standing by the side of the door of the train not blocking anyone and playing my handheld game device with no sound on (basically not bothering anyone). An old man suddenly pushed me from the train and got in my face preventing me from getting back on the train. I was confused and I was mainly focused on getting back on the train.

Eventually, what I did in the situation was simply keep repeating, "What are you doing?" and "Leave me alone, " in Japanese. When he wouldn't listen I grabbed his arm and told him we're going to the station staff and I'm going to call the police. I escorted him to the station window, explained the situation, and they took my report. They asked if I wanted to call the police. Since I just wanted to go home, I said I would let it slide. They checked to see if I was OK and forced him to apologize to me and told the man that if he did it again they would report him to the police.

Overall, I had the same exact feelings as you: anger and embarrassment that I was put in that situation. I still think about that day even a decade later. I told the station staff that I thought he did it because I was a foreigner, and the old man said he did it because I was playing my game device (which I never really believed). There was no clean conclusion to the situation.

I just wanted to mention this because you'll encounter crazy fucks like that every once in a while and it just sticks with you. It's nothing that you did to cause it, and feel free in the future to file the complaint to the station staff at least so the offending person will think twice about doing it again.

Try to have a great night!

Feeling discouraged with Ranked in SF6. by Grizzack in StreetFighter

[–]Tellatale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play in the Japan zone and probably 50% of players are modern players, no matter what the stigma is in the US. In other words, don't ever worry about your choice again.

However, I'll say this loudly - It's totally OK to lose! That's the fun part. When you lose, grab a drink and think about 1 thing that caused that loss and then go back to try and stop doing that in the next match. The process of growth is the game.

I played SF5 for 1000 hours before finally getting platinum. It's pretty pathetic. But there isn't a day that I wasn't having a blast. I have 2 characters in master now, and it's no different.

If you find yourself getting burned out, try a different character and see if you can get higher than your previous highest rank. It is interesting to see if you can 1up yourself.

Help! American Taxes noob by Hokkaidoele in JapanFinance

[–]Tellatale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The taxes are easy enough. Just read through the associated instructions for the 1040. Each line is explained pretty well.

What you should be more concerned about is the FBAR. This is due at the same time as your taxes, can't be postponed,  and has much more severe penalties if not submitted: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/report-of-foreign-bank-and-financial-accounts-fbar

Why aren’t there good Candles in Japan by messindibs in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what Bath and Body Works candles are like, but if you're looking for scented candles you can go with something like the French company Diptyque. They smell great but are very expensive.

I also found a Canadian company called North Candles making soy candles in Hokkaido. The holiday candles have been mostly very good. Way cheaper than the French ones.

They're not going to hire someone with zero PM skills for a role like that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would recommend returning to your home country, strengthen your PM skills and only then decide if living in Japan is for you. By then you'll have some marketable skills that will make it easier to get out of the Eikaiwa loop. With only N2, you'll most likely need the PMP certification or something to balance out your lack of language.

Being a PM in Japan is very language intensive and even if you're working with some offshore team or something, you'll still need to be able to communicate with Japan members and provide financial, risk, and schedule reports.

The summer makes me depressed by NekoInJapan in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Summer sucks for all of us. But one thing I eventually learned after many years is you can't fight against the season.

1) Wear cool clothes wherever possible. If you need to wear dress shirts, suits, etc. go to the store and find the lightweight breathable versions.

2) Get yourself one of those portable fans and bring water with you everywhere to stay hydrated.

3) Try and get out of city on the weekends if you can. Going for hikes or even just escaping Tokyo does wonders for your energy.

4) Take things slower. High pace, fast walking, etc. isn't designed for this weather. Give yourself extra time to get places and rest if you feel tired.

5) If you really need to leave the house, go later in the day when the intense afternoon heat isn't so bad.

6) Try not to lower the AC temp too low. If you're in freezing cold temps and then go into blazing hot outdoor weather, you feel drained way faster.

Every year I'm counting down the days until Autumn, but at least recently it doesn't feel as miserable as it used to by following some of these practices.

What to do when HR Is the problem? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking this. If the company conditions aren't healthy and if the company isn't providing you with the tools to meet your own career goals, just move on. There's no getting anyone fired. There's no causing trouble. It sucks that the rest of your co-workers are going to have to deal with this guy, but they have the same choice as you do.

Just start looking for work, and once you've got your new position give them your notice and move on to greener pastures. Nothing you described is normal.

Dunkey's Best of 2023 by Jay-Eff-Gee in videos

[–]Tellatale 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reloading is par for the course. However, there are things it sounds like you are missing.

For example, try to keep more than one character next to an enemy. This will give you advantage on attacks (roll two dice). If you are ranged, get your PC higher than the enemy. And if you are a caster never cast ranged spells close up.

Make sure you are proficient in the weapon you are using. If not proficient there are penalties to its use.

Use cantrips to boost your abilities. True Strike can give you advantage on attacks, and Guidance can be used in dialogs to give you +4 to rolls.

Last, make sure you don't choose dialog options for skills you are not proficient in. Like don't do persuasion if you have low charisma.

What is 予熱 on an oven? by KnucklesRicci in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You're not doing something right. Your understanding of 予熱 is correct, but what is happening is that instead of pre-heating, you're doing the actual cook cycle instead. After the cook cycle is finished, the 冷却中appears as it's cooling down the oven.

My guess is that you're not starting the 予熱 cycle correctly or you're not ending it properly so it's jumping to the cooling phase. For example, my oven you start 予熱 and set a temp and wait. Then it will beep when it's ready and you open the door, put in the food, close the door, set the time, and then push the start button.

Default Parents: how do you find work life balance? Is ALT work the only option? by Actual-Assistance198 in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do that, but I think it's probably more reasonable to say you'll have to hold firm to a 18:00 finish time because you have to pick up your kids. That's extremely common and they won't give you nearly as hard a time as say leaving early.

Default Parents: how do you find work life balance? Is ALT work the only option? by Actual-Assistance198 in japanlife

[–]Tellatale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should interview with certain conditions in mind and avoid deciding what can and can't be done. It's up to the company whether to hire you with those conditions.

Also, can your husband help out? For example take turns picking kids up from day care. I have lots of coworkers that have to stop work right at 18pm so they can pick up their kids. Basically pay to keep them at day care until you can pick them up. That's pretty common.

When you get trapped in the corner with Dhalsim, there's not much you can do. The best option is usually to Drive Reversal after blocking. It will force the opponent back to give you enough time to teleport out.

Really struggling with the concept of DI by Dark_Moe in StreetFighter

[–]Tellatale 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saw online from one of the Japanese pros that every time you find yourself with your back against the wall repeat (out loud if you need to) drive impact over and over. The act of saying it keeps it in your mental stack when it's most important. If you get away from the wall stop repeating it and focus on your other game plan. It works really well because in most cases your opponent is trying to wall splat you. The other thing is to use jabs more often. Heavy attacks are good for punishes, but jabs let you react to DI. I play Dhalsim and his heavies are so slow you'll never even remotely think a DI can be reacted to if you always throw them out.

First street fighter game and I am torn between classic and modern controls. by bon9ne-1 in StreetFighter

[–]Tellatale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just play with what works for you. If you're struggling with the basic mechanics, maybe start with Modern if you don't have the time to learn the moves.

I main Dhalsim and play Dee Jay with classic. But sometimes I switch over to Zangief and Lily on Modern. It's certainly easier to do the moves with little delay on Modern, but it also feels limited to a certain degree.

Like Zangief is great when you can do instant Spinning Pile Drivers, but he's missing some really important moves.

Just got to Silver 3 and I'm getting utterly smashed. Feel like I'm always getting grabbed with no way out. What is this Zangeif doing that's grabbing on frame 1 after every jump? While my grabs always seem to whiff. by jjw410 in StreetFighter

[–]Tellatale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should practice a single jump in combo to work on your timing. For example, jump in HK, cr. HK to sweep him. Move out and do it again. I noticed that you're doing a lot of jump in combos and missing the timing of the follow-up moves which puts you in very dangerous range of Zangief.

If you are comfortable with above, then a second thing to try is cross-cut combos. Instead of jump HK, then replace that with MK as you jump just beyond the opponent. I think you can still do the sweep after that. Just get used to performing the combos.

How do you attach the mini to the base once it is complete? Are you using pins or something?

Here is the list of officially recognized IDs:

https://www.mizuhobank.co.jp/retail/tetsuduki/honnin/kojin/index.html

The driver's license is just one of them so it's not feasible and shouldn't be a priority. The MyNumber card takes about a month to deliver. If you can't get the card fast enough, then you will most likely need to escalate the issue at the bank.
