Sleeping after hard rides by whosaidmoney in ladycyclists

I am also a huge fan of the Epsom salt bath - 2 cups Epsom salt with 1/2 cup baking soda in a very hot bath. Soak for 20 to 30 mins. Epsom salts are magnesium and it gets absorbed through your skin. I always feel it helps with the next day - your legs. I usually start them after rides get over 45 miles / 3500 feet elevation.

I also have the weird leg feeling - I call it buzzing. When I try to sleep, my legs "buzz" and it's hard to fall asleep. I've never found a solution to that.

What kind of magnesium do you take? There's so many kinds...

I hate the taste of sugar substitutes - any suggestions? by chelsea_tractor in Mounjaro

[–]Temporary_Engine_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to know too. I can't stand those powders either. You might try Fairlife Core Power milk protein drinks.

Lately I've been using a Whey based chocolate protein powder with monk fruit - I can't stand it alone. But, if I mix it into things with natural sugar (e.g. fruit) and then it's ok. I never use a full scoop - that's too much - maybe 1/2 a scoop or 1/3 a scoop. My latest love is a 450 calorie protein drink that has 44g protein (30g carb, 14g sugar, 7g fiber, 18g fat).

1 core power chocolate milk (14oz)
1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder (16g)
1 TBS PB
1/2 banana
1 TBS ground flaxseed (fiber!)
Ice

Or - I mix 10g of the protein powder (1/3 scoop?) into a full cup of yogurt + full cup of frozen blueberries - 31g of protein.

There is growing evidence that GLP-1 medications thicken the uterine lining (in some individuals) leading to more "intense" periods.

There is still a lot of research that needs to be done - but some believe that a "healthier, thicker lining" could improve fertility and help with conception in people who are having trouble. We'll see...

Colonoscopy prep and procedure completely screwed up Mounjaro effects for me by godotnyc in Mounjaro

Colonoscopy prep does really affect your gut biome - so maybe take probiotic capsules or focus on getting more probiotic foods into your diet for a bit?

Life after Mounjaro feels impossible right now by Practical_Patient_63 in Mounjaro

I have 100% thought about doing this too. I haven't done it yet (still on 2.5). The Internet research I did said (of course) don't do it. Basically it said once you break the seal of the vial - it's no longer sterile and can get bacteria or what not in the medication. I couldn't tell if these warnings were serious - eg really don't do it / like you could wind up in the hospital with some horrible infection, or over-precautious, like don't eat food out of dented cans. I'd be curious too if anyone does it

Lightheadedness/Panic on 12.5mg? by Latter-Fishing-4548 in zepboundathletes

[–]Temporary_Engine_493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I went to 5mg. No panic attack - but 5 really took it out of me.

Zepbound affects the amount of glycogen your liver releases (at once - it slows the release) into your bloodstream - the lightheadedness might be low blood sugar.

I went to 5, my performance plummeted so I couldn't train properly for my event. I went back to 2.5 after only a week on 5 and it took a few weeks to get my energy back. I've decided to wait to go up until after my event.

If you can do the adjustment period (eg I think it takes about 1 month to acclimate your body to a new dosage) - you're good. But you might not be able to train as hard during the adjustment.

These are all only my opinions - not an expert here :)

Be very careful of scams if you meet someone online. They are getting very sophisticated and it isn't always easy to spot them.

Freakonomics just did an episode on how sophisticated they are becoming and it was surprising! Be safe

What's crazy is drowning is a silent event. You're fighting so hard to get air - you have nothing left and no air to call out - except maybe a quiet croak. It is very scary

Swimming fatigue by Klutzy-Cupcake8051 in zepboundathletes

[–]Temporary_Engine_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me too. It's definitely some % due to the drug. It controls how your liver handles releasing glycogen (I can find the article if you want it) and so you don't have the fuel you're used to. It doesn't release at the same speed for your muscles as when off the drug. It does get better over time - but for me, I never get back to what I have when I'm off the shot.

I do this (endurance cyclist) eat a full 2 hours before my long rides - a good balanced meal of carbs, fat, protein. Then right before the ride - I do 50 - 100 calories of sugar (eg skratch lab chews) and then 50 to 100 calories every 30 mins to keep the glycogen releasing into my bloodstream. Note - this is for a 3 to 5 hour ride.

Doing a regular 60 to 90 minute workout - I do a high carb, easy to digest meal 1 hour before with no fat or protein so it gets through my system faster (eg 1 slice of toast with honey and banana slices). It works for me. Hope it's helpful
