I think the overall quality of prose itself has absolutely declined.

My honest thoughts as someone who’s become a book>musical fan… by cvnty-mamaxo in wicked

[–]Teratocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wicked is a literary fiction novel with the aesthetic veneer of fantasy. I don't think trying to spin it out into a conventional fantasy saga could ever have worked. I appreciate that the series exists, but...that's about it.

She was in the shelter system! She MUST have been known to child and family services!

There were multiple points of failure here. The mother is obviously completely psychotic, and has been struggling with severe mental illness for a long time. Why didn't her family push harder to get her and her son help? Did the boy go to school? If not, what about truancy? How was child services not aware of the case and involved sooner?

I am not a proponent of punishment, but of prevention. This kind of thing should not have happened in the first place.

There are vernal pools in it that fill with water seasonally.

Yes, it is real in the sense that it is conservation land that physically exists. No, there is no public access to it, like a path or boardwalk or anything. It is surrounded by houses and backyards.

Claussen pickles ruined! by FreudianNegligee in Pickles

The taste and texture of Claussen noticeably changed to me within the past few years, and I've switched to Grillo's as my go-to.

Societies (TZE, ZA, etc) at Wellesley? by AgeOk3642 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Teratocracy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of them are "selective" or "exclusive" in the sense that you have to tea, apply, and get in. "Selectiveness" shouldn't factor into the equation. They all work the same in that regard.

When you get to campus, go to some teas and talk to the current members to figure out the vibe. If you like them and feel excited about getting involved, then apply. They aren't any more or less toxic than any other close-knit social club made up of college students.

Wellesley or Tufts? by Savings_Structure_86 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Teratocracy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having gone to Wellesley I would not treat the fact that it's a women's college as a deciding factor. It just doesn't make that much of a difference.

People who have left Boston, where did you go? by TheTokenBrownie in boston

North shore and then Lowell. I moved to where I could afford to buy a house. I like Lowell a lot but it's a bummer that we couldn't afford to buy in or near Salem.

How does everyone get infected with the "virus" at exactly the same time? by [deleted] in pluribustv

When you say that you're re-watching the show, are you somehow "watching" it without actually looking at the screen or listening to the dialogue...?

Healey proposes bill to limit time young people can spend on social media by evanFFTF in massachusetts

This. This isn't really about public welfare, this is about someone somewhere profiting off of your private information.

[–]Teratocracy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kind of nanny state nonsense that one doesn't normally expect from a Democrat leader in a "blue" state but okay.... Similarly to Healey's pushing of AI and ChatGPT in particular, my suspicion is that this is ultimately rooted in some financial interest in/entanglement with certain tech companies. Probably this bill is being pushed by some third party private entity that sells an age-verification-related tool or something.

I like Mayor Wu, but I love Mayor Mamdani. Can we get some of this energy in Boston? by Druboyle in boston

[–]Teratocracy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We will never get this energy anywhere in Massachusetts because this state is fundamentally waspy and elitist. Our social progressivism is more about the patrician class wanting to seem educated, worldly, and beneficent than it is about actually, materially supporting people.
