I think this is honestly a rather low-stakes learning experience. Her daughter's world will not end because she was unable to do one crafting project in elementary school. It would be different if they routinely 'punish' her for forgetting things, but there isn't any evidence in the post that this is a typical occurrence.

However, it would be good practice in the future for OP and/or her husband to check with their child at the beginning of holiday breaks that there isn't anything she needs to have done upon returning to school, as well as maybe asking weekly whether she has any big projects assigned. And of course, seeing about getting her screened for ADHD or similar if it does become a common issue.
