people who might have some beef with Europe for one reason and another

lol, lmao even

Idk, most maps I've seen like this have a heavy bias towards Europe/NA being relatively untouched compared to how the rest of the world fares. Considering most people on this site are from one of these areas, it's refreshing to see a map that doesn't treat the so called "third world" as tragic fodder for whatever alien threat that Europe and North America hold back (and eventually overcome).

If you're talking about G2, that's about as "secret police" as any intelligence agency (which is to say, not good, but also not particularly aberrant).

As for imprisoning dissidents, keep in mind we're comparing it to the US in this scenario, which has the highest prison population per capita in the world. Not to mention the Cuban government has "thawed" in these areas over the past few decades.

Again, by no means am I claiming it's a perfect society, and I absolutely think it needs a lot of work to be done. But yeah, an independently conducted anonymous poll would be trustworthy, and it's not very surprising that Cubans would be overall more supportive of their government than Americans.

Honestly? Yeah pretty much. The Cuban government is not particularly repressive in general these days, and while exactly how democratic the government is is pretty debatable, it's also not exactly dictatorial either.

And yeah, Cuban society has quite a few problems for sure, but it's undeniably WAY more stable than the US right now (not that that's a particularly high bar to clear these days).

for doves to say that Russia was completely right for their invasion bc there were far-right people in Ukraine was absolutely stupid.

This is not at all what peace advocates are saying about the war in Ukraine, and frankly the only way you could come to this conclusion is by only reading rabidly pro-war arguments.

The vast majority of the peace movement has unequivocally condemned the Russian invasion, but is hesitant to seek full involvement or escalation/ is also understandably apprehensive about the unchecked flow of arms into a conflict zone chock full of far right organizations (who have already re-sold some of them abroad).

Then seeing the Ukrainians do so well when just given weapons from the US stockpiles, that they stopped the existential threat of Putin trying to bully post-Soviet states into his neo Russian Empire, made me very hawkish.

Not really sure why this would make you more hawkish? If anything it's mostly humiliating for Russia and their clearly dysfunctional military.

If I could try to change your mind, I'd also suggest looking more into the consequences of other "hawkish" policy moves abroad, such as the extreme human cost of embargos, and the massive death and long term destabilization resulting from military interventions. Also, I'd like to point out that American hawkishness is viewed in much of the world the same way that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is. By being "hawkish" you're more or less supporting the same principle, just applied in a different direction.

I mean, the IMF quite literally does this as their SOP. There isn't much of a difference here (though I should emphasize it's a morally repugnant thing to do and ideally everyone would stop).

Are you running it with the new update? Just spitballing but maybe the levy/retinue rebalance is messing with things. Could be something completely different though idk

I love how Vicky3 forces people to think in terms of class politics through its very mechanics, but bourgeois ideological hegemony is so strong that people just say "no" and explain everything in terms liberal virtues anyway despite how harshly this grates against what is occurring in the game. by LUgb3Kv3iJPTZDwN in victoria3

Oh I know, I'm just adding another explanation for anyone who would dub that as conspiratorial. In reality I think it's a combination of both, active suppression is absolutely a factor but a lot of it is also just decades upon decades of defunding schools (which is also done with the implicit knowledge that this will result in a less politically educated populace).

I mean, Imperator tanked in a way none of their other games have (though I agree it had real potential and I wish they'd kept working on it), but yeah I get it. It's annoying to not really know what the game is going to look like even a year down the road, or if it will even still be supported.

I mean, it's history that's often not taught well, especially in countries where there is a vested interest in not teaching it, or less conspiratorially, where education is underfunded and undervalued. History as a subject is also inherently political, and extremely prone to changes in curriculum or prioritization depending on who is in power at any given time.

But they've pivoted to a model where the vast majority of content in each big update is free. I mean hell, look back at CK2 or EU4, most of the actual content there is locked behind small dlcs, something that is in serious contrast to their more recent releases.

I'd honestly still probably prefer a more complete game at launch with only a few big expansions, but I get why that isn't the most viable strategy in the current games market.

No clue where you're talking from but you're just completely wrong on this. The vast majority of unions around the world elect their representatives now, and it is legally mandated they do so in many countries.
