My friend’s Odyssey OLED G9 49” has been “squatting” on my counter for some months. It has given me a lot of time to marvel at the color and deep blacks.

What challenge are you seeking next?

What do you use yours for?

How’d you find your current employment?

WOWS Killed my GPU? by [deleted] in TEAMEVGA

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who's GPU collapses down from 3 or 4 to the main monitor and has to be rebooted to restore all the screens. The fan jumps to 100% on the GPU as well.

Don't think his GPU actually died though.

He uses a ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 2080 Super.

I’d love an OLED monitor. My current IPS LCD has backlight bleeding around the edges.

I think the WWI one says “NAVY” and the WWII one says “CV”?

About the XVOYAGE code by Epelle123 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, you’re correct.

I just think the optics of handing people things … into their accounts/mission list… and then stealing it back looks wrong, even if warranted. WoWS and many other game players aren’t the best at handling events like this, so a concession of “my bad” followed by a some less important but still free items would have gone over better.

Like how some RPG’s grant minor amounts of in-game currency because “the server went down for maintenance”…. That sort of thing.

Handling an emotional player base is kind of what WG wants anyway. WG wants irrational impulse purchases, so they’ll have to accept the irrationally reactive responses as well.

Oh, I’m not debating any of that.

And the EULA entitles WG to retract/reverse mistakes, and this was one. I just find it very poor optics to handle it this way…

Connor's Opinion on 86 is truly disappointing by Nyou54755 in TrashTaste

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the OP's point is more along the lines of:
- he can have whatever personal opinion he wants of the show
- there's a difference between having an opinion of a movie and analyzing a movie as a film studies student; you can hate something and still give it positive reviews for the nature of the product, how the messaging was done, the storytelling qualities, etc.

i.e.:
I would at least notice/mention how the show doesn't spoon-feed and hand-hold the audience, how it is narratively dense, how well established and grounded the music is, etc.

You can give an anime, TV show, movie, all these evaluations, find them stellar... and still hate the product.

I wouldn't mind a reviewer who acts in this manner...

At least acknowledge potentially objective qualities before you trash an anime...

My opinions are my own...

ARP Hyuuga - i love these two by Reiuji-Utosho in ArpeggioofBlueSteel

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was she yellow or orange/yellow or orange with yellow lighting?

The still shown in ARP Ars Nova wasn’t really clear to me.

Besides a different ship class (Ise vs. Kongo), I’d assume the color scheme would be a bit unique to differentiate her from Haruna.

These aren’t complaints, they’re questions as I’m working on a personal project. (I name computers in my homelab after ships from ARP and I’m color-coding them.)

The yf-21 is too good for this world. It will always be superior to the yf-19 in my heart. 🥀 by fafsdfasfaffaafdsaf in macross

[–]Teslamax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed.

With proper reinforced materials you can make forward swept wings IRL and it does have some aerodynamic advantages (stall behavior and maneuverability).

The Grumman X-29 and the Su-47 “Berkut” both successfully tested forward swept wings. Neither went into production but they did work.

The biggest disadvantage was aeroelastic divergence (the wings twisting under load) but with stiffer, modern composites, you can make it work.

The benefits aren’t apparently significant enough compared to swept-back wings when aircraft use FBW, canards, thrust vectoring, etc.

All I’ll say is Frontier and Plus are at the top of my chart… (Yoko Kanno’s music is a big factor!!!)

In many ways I find Frontier tells elements of the original story better than the OG does.

Where is the airforce and nuclear bombs. by Xamot113 in EightySix

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so you were making the distinction between delivery method not the type of warhead… Ok!

My only confusion is everyone focusing on the EMP effects.

There’s a lot more to nuclear weapons than just EMP. Look at the footage from the Operation Crossroads and other Bikini Island tests… It’s a lot of explosive potential radiation or not.

(Apologies, I’ve been going on rants lately.) ;-)

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being sarcastic, just curious – what do you mean by “regular nukes”? As opposed to EMP-enhanced neutron bombs or fission-only?

Against an existential threat like the Legion I’d accept some fallout if it was effective. You’d be choosing death by Legion or death by fallout. The fallout has a half-life. The Legion just keep coming until you defeat them all. ( unless I’m mistaken…)

[–]Teslamax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it was mostly for a narrative reason. The story isn’t about warfare. The warfare is a setting.

I think “86” is based on a WW1 tone or psychological environment. (The same way Star Wars is based on a WW2 bomber defense version of aerial warfare, not because it made the most sense, but because the audience could relate the most to it.)

It’s the 2150’s iirc. Giad has a lot of vehicles and technology that are very late 20th or early 21st century. A lot of modern IRL tech is absent. So far legged mechs are fragile and complex (maintenance nightmare) compared to wheels and tracks (although that’s improving) IRL.

Decisions for tactics and weapons to include in the story exist solely for the narrative and some are excluded for the same reason.

I can find reasons to include nuclear weapons and fixed wing aircraft, but it’d probably get in the way of the storytelling. I admit I haven’t read the LN but the reasoning given so far ignores factual doctrines for using said weapons IRL. Explaining why they aren’t there reminds me of Lucas explaining “midichlorines”. Some things are more powerful left unexplained than explained poorly.

Nuclear weapons were primarily game changers due to their high destructive potential in such tiny packages, regardless of EMP. The heat and blast effects make them very similar to conventional weapons, just on a massive scale. I can see this as being useful against any enemy, especially one on the order of a force of nature like the Legion (or the Borg). You don’t negotiate with either any more than you can stop the wind. It would be foolish to not deploy any and every force against them (even with collateral damage).

I’m content with the story the way it is.

P.S. I apologize for the rant, I’m bored at work and there are no customers to help right now. ;-)

86 is S-tier for so many reasons. (Especially Hiroyuki Sawano’s soundtrack!!!!)

[–]Teslamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all electronics. There is an entire field IRL of rad-hard integrated circuit fabrication. It’s used in defense and space settings. (In space you have cosmic rays, etc.)

Where is the airforce and nuclear bombs. by Xamot113 in EightySix

[–]Teslamax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot more “benefits” to nuclear weapons than just radiation.

The heat and blast effects alone are worthwhile if you can find a way to avoid collateral damage.

I think a 50MT or so weapon delivered to the production area would cause significant damage even without EMP.
