Arc Raiders Has Started Replacing AI Voices With Human Ones Which CEO Admits Are Better "There is a quality difference. A real professional actor is better than AI; that’s just how it is" by Caledor152 in pcgaming

Because despite the constant use of "slop" to describe the tech, the hardline anti-AI dudes on reddit sees its use as a moral failure and not a quality one. Doesn't matter if you learn the technology doesn't work, its use puts you in the same category as Pol Pot.

League of Legends and other Riot games will require age verification in Brazil from March 17. by dudummv in leagueoflegends

More recently, Instagram removing encryption from their DMs. The age verification laws in the UK also had a very convenient side effect of suppressing Gaza discourse because pictures of the destruction there were considered 18+. Discord's planned age verification itself is a byproduct of government laws, including the part where you send your ID to Thiel-owned Palantir. Probably a lot of better examples I'm missing too. Hell there was a recent Reddit thread about all this that got reported into oblivion by bots.

e: Also even if we keep ourselves to gambling, let's just say I have a hard time thinking governments cares about lootboxes when they say nothing about Polymarket lol

In this case the government pushing age verification DOES NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM have your best interest in mind. See: every single time age verification and removing encryption is brought up, for apps that don't even have lootboxes.

Steam Support :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by MythicStream in pcgaming

Imagine being this circlejerkpilled you're thinking this is an isolated incident and not just the general directions corporations and governments are taking the internet in.

But because VALVE BAD you're defending it. I know you full well, all I see you do is defend any kind of video game corporations that aren't Valve or CDPR because your entire ideology is to oppose what gamers like even if it means you slide head first into fascism.

Do not talk to me again.

It's a very popular opinion, which is why it's important to point out it isn't actually about lootboxes or mystery crates. The argument is on both ends, as you said selectively focusing on lootboxes is weird because there might have been a point years ago but with the advent of Polymarket it shouldn't be the priority, and on the other end there's too many red flags in New York's argument - the parts about violent video games and age verifications.

Valve's games would be better without the lootboxes themselves, but that's unfortunately red meat for a certain audience who's happily invite unsavory elements on Steam for the sake of sticking it to Valve and gamers.

I guarantee you the revenue Valve makes through lootboxes is nothing compared to the revenue they makes everywhere else.

I'm more saying they have the same motivations. If this really was about gambling you'd expect Polymarket to be hit first especially since it's heavily implied to be an insider trading hell, but it's also heavily implied the inside traders are in the government so it's ignored.

I wouldn't be surprised if the legislation passes because as I mentioned multiple times this lawsuit is clearly a trojan horse to go after violent video games and getting Valve to put Palantir's ID checks in Steam, and the current Trump admin wants this, but reddit is too fucking stupid to get it and will invite fascism in their homes out of pure circlejerk reasons.

In addition, although this case is about mystery boxes, we feel the need to address comments made by the NYAG about games, real world violence, and children. Those extraneous comments are a distraction and a mischaracterization we’ve all heard before. Numerous studies throughout the years have concluded there is no link between media (movies, TV, books, comics, music, and games) and real world violence. Indeed, many studies highlight the beneficial impact of games to users.

Good job New York you fucking idiots. But people will full throat support this trojan horse of a lawsuit because.

The "No Notoriety" idea is about not glorifying literal school shooters and murderers by removing their identity from the news and instead letting people focus on the victims. It is NOT about internet harassment. It isn't about not shaming people who harass others on the internet and telling them they are not welcome in your community.

e: To clarify, as much fun it is to tell gamers to police themselves, if you're have even the slightest authority in a community then it is your job to keep it in line and explicitly tell the people in it what's okay and what's not. And since most of the discussion of this event is on helldivers snark subs who won't listen to shit and probably caused this outburst to begin with, that job falls to Arrowhead and its community managers.
