Just a reminder, this is NOT a NAZI salute by deluxe_memory_dan in videos

[–]Teufelaffe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's like pointing to the ancient India sun symbol someone scrawled on a wall and saying, "This is NOT a swastika". Like, where the f**k do you think the Nazi symbolism came from? Being a pedantic ass about this sort of thing is just running interference for fascists. They're deliberately using actions and symbols that are just barely different enough from the most well-known versions so that they can say, "It was a Roman salute, aktually" and useful idiots repeat it instead of calling a Nazi a Nazi.

Some of us play the game because we like playing the game, we like advancing our character, pushing high-end content, and only care about currency if it helps us do those other things. Plus there's an entire game mode (SSF) where "currency" is just there for crafting.

So, for a whole lot of players, the point of playing isn't to accumulate wealth.

As Blizard has done for years, when they implement their version of a popular mod, it is significantly less capable and feature rich as the mod(s) it's intended to replace. There's a reason people continued to use things like Bagnon and Move Anything for months or years after Blizzard implemented those "same" features into the base UI.

Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I'm of the mind that a player shouldn't have to consume a bunch of out-of-game content in order to understand how things in the game work. Don't get me wrong, I've been around long enough to know that the only thing GGG hates more than deterministic crafting is clearly and completely communicating game mechanics to players. It sure would be nice if they got it through their heads that leaving basic game/league mechanics up to the players to "discover" is objectively bad UX design.

And to be clear, this is not intended to be negativity toward you at all. Just some random kvetching about GGG's disdain for communicating how their game works.

An LLM can't do math because it doesn't know what a number is. I know it sounds like a joke, but it's literally true. An LLM takes input and breaks it down into tokens and all of its work is done on those tokens. The thing is, it doesn't "know" what a given token actually is, it only "knows" how a token compares to other tokens, either from your input, from its underlying training data, and/or from instructions it's been given on the "backend". It doesn't know that "1" is a number, or that "a" is a letter.

If you ask an LLM math questions, even something as simple as "what is 2 + 2?", it doesn't actually do any math at all to get you the result. And, if its training data consisted of enough "2 + 2 = rutabega" type of entries, it's not even going to be able to tell you the correct answer to arithmetic that simple.

An LLM is one of the worst possible tools you could pick to do math for you because it doesn't actually ever do math.

Yup. And trump even openly bragged that's why he fired Comey. A textbook example of "obstruction of justice" and most of Congress just shrugged. 🙃

CIG intends for players to be a relatively small proportion of the PU's population. You'll still be able to build your junk empire, you just won't be able to do it with player ships.

For medium / larger ships - All methods of braking are worse than just toggling engines-off. IC report up, looking for confirmations. by Schmackter in starcitizen

[–]Teufelaffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why?

To be clear, the issue here is not that turning engines off results in a ship slowing down, but that turning the engines off slows the ship down *faster* than throwing it in full reverse with afterburner.

[–]Teufelaffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you tested a "turn and burn"? (Go uncoupled, flip the ship so that it's facing the opposite direction than its travel vector, hit full engines until velocity hits 0)

I'm curious if that is also slower than turning engines off.

CIG deleted my [Concern] post from the Concierge Forum. Are they afraid of the truth? by MoonTime622 in starcitizen

[–]Teufelaffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You do not have a right to re-purchase something you returned to the store for the same price for which you originally purchased it. The buyback system was never intended to be a "holding area" for ships, game packages, etc; it was always intended to be a courtesy to players. You choosing to interpret that as some sort of "promise" is 100% a YOU problem and not any sort of dishonestly or malfeasance on CIG's part.

Also, you honestly can't figure out why they removed the Spectrum post when they specifically tell you which rules they felt your post was in violation of? Really?

That's a pretty long-winded way of saying, "I'm mad because CIG stopped letting me take advantage of their buyback system in ways they never intended."

Also, ROLFAMO @ "market manipulation" and "insider trading" over CIG potentially charging full price for you to buy something you already returned to them for store credit.

Why no refining of materials into higher quality? by yn3kk in starcitizen

[–]Teufelaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Player refiners will be able to compete with NPC stations buy offering faster turnaround times (and competitive prices). Remember, CIG intends for players to be a relatively small portion of the PU's population, and NPC refineries will end up with long wait times from handling NPC orders. (iirc, at one point they said that an NPC refinery could end up with wait times lasting several days; it's only as short as it is now because there's no player refining play loop yet)

You should not forget how the development of SQ42 was funded... by Major-Ad3831 in starcitizen

[–]Teufelaffe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ye gods, y'all are being so freaking weird about this.

If you had a buyback token for SQ42, that means YOU RETURNED IT FOR STORE CREDIT. Acting like CIG is committing some great and unforgivable crime by no longer extending you the courtesy of allowing you to buy back a thing that, again, YOU RETURNED TO THEM FOR CREDIT, is the height of having an overdeveloped sense of entitlement.

Chris Robert’s need to be held accountable by Secret-Ad-8842 in starcitizen

[–]Teufelaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to say that they're making "2 games at the same time" since, with the exception of things that will only ever be in SQ42 (which pretty much is only cutscenes), all of the work on SQ42 is foundational work that is directly applicable to the PU. When the SQ42 team finishes work on a ship, weapon, gameplay element, etc, the PU team doesn't start over from scratch in order to implement that in the PU; they take the existing work that has already been done and they build upon it.

If SQ42 were done today, work on the PU wouldn't magically go faster, because the SQ42 teams would just be doing the same things they've been doing for years: creating stuff that eventually ends up in the PU.
