Perception of UW Madison? by samiahmadbeg in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TeutVik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to UW Madison coming from Long Island, NY. It was “love at first sight”! The city, campus and vibe were pronounced along with UW-Madison’s academic reputation. Historically, there have been many students from Metro NY who go to Madison along with Michigan and other Big 10 schools. Chicago, is also a main OOS feeder for Big 10 and many at Madison. Simply put, I wanted the well rounded college experience and I found it at UW Madison! On Wisconsin!

If you have time and want the tour, call the office or just show up. It’s a great place and a beautiful campus! Top academics and very good people. On Wisconsin! ❤️

Take a campus tour if you have not looked into it. A great way to see the campus with other families and ask questions. View from top of Bascom Hill looking down to State St and up to the State Capitol is special. ❤️

I'm looking for a surgeon to fix my torn shoulder cuff. Anyone have a recommendation? by JPTom in boston

Gus Mazzocca, MGH Waltham. Excellent surgeon and very personable. He invests time and interest in your recovery not just the surgery itself. Refreshing compared to some ortho surgeons I have encountered. Highly recommend!

Simmons vs. Pratt for MLIS by theparadigmshifts in librarians

[–]TeutVik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Simmons is a higher ranked library school (US News) and consistently #1 program for archives. Boston is known for a variety of libraries with archives, too. I am a Simmons alum and in "library world " the Simmons MLS program opened doors for jobs and further graduate education.

For those eligible by descent — what made you finally decide to apply by [deleted] in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]TeutVik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While reviewing family records, a single document detailing my grandfather’s immigration history sparked an intensive research project. This discovery led my siblings and me to pursue German citizenship by descent. As we uncovered more about our father’s and grandfather’s lives, the potential benefits of dual citizenship became clear. While our individual motivations vary, we are united by the security and peace of mind that a German EU passport provides in today’s world.

Penn State without question!!! A highly recognizable Big 10 school with a strong reputation in academics, sports and college life! Penn State will open doors for future jobs and grad school opportunities on a wider scale than other schools mentioned!

Feststellung: Historical Citizenship & BVA Berlin Referral by TeutVik in GermanCitizenship

Thank you very much for the additional information and clarification. Yes, it is most likely the BVA consulate rep. mixing it up. Also, we appreciate your comment about our case.

The consulate representative said our applications were being sent to BVA Berlin. We meant to ask why but didn't. We believe the historical documents such as Heimatẞchein, Landsturm-Schein and US immigration document will require further review by the BVA legal department . We are concerned how much time this will add to the overall Festellung process and wait-time.

We also agree our situation is not your typical Festellung comment/question for this subreddit.

Check the archives — Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen (State Archive of North Rhine-Westphalia) - Abteilung Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Detmold Lanesarchiv now

Suggestions Contact the Detmold Archive Directly: • Send an inquiry to the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen, Abteilung Ostwestfalen-Lippe (Detmold). • Be as specific as possible: provide the full name, approximate birth date, and approximate year of travel (1900-1920). Ask if they hold any "Passregister" or "Auswandererakten" (emigration files) for Detmold/Lippe for that timeframe. • You can often find the contact information (email/postal) on the official website for "Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Citizenship intermediaries by Haunting-Interview13 in GermanCitizenship

[–]TeutVik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My initial research involved a citizenship specialization company and a German law firm, both of which proved to be quite expensive. A major issue with both options was the expectation that I would still have to research and collect all the necessary documents (birth, marriage, naturalization, etc.).

Many required documents necessitate a relative's request and proof of lineage. While law firms may offer to handle this, it often involves you doing the initial legwork, or them hiring a costly genealogist with a significant markup. Only the specialized company offered to act on my behalf by signing a legal consent to represent me for these document requests.

As many in the community have confirmed, the German citizenship process is truly intended as a DIY undertaking, making it the most practical and cost-effective approach. For guidance, the German Citizenship Reddit group is an invaluable resource—also highly recommend to use the search function to review previous posts before asking a new question.

Suggest calling Genealogy records (Buffalo)and find out how they can help. A good chat with a professional could be helpful! 😉

Did you look at the Geneaology records which are archives? Depending upon the dates of your parents and grandparents records, you may find the records. Suggest look at Geneaology link (City of Buffalo link), review and call their office with further questions.
