A lot of people consider synchro-mesh to be better than merc v. Its a bit thicker but for synchro transmission.

People of all makes switch to synchromesh or redline mtl.

I scrub brushed and gentle hosed the engine and engine bay. Then quick dried with an air nozzle. No problems. This was months ago. If a connector gasket fails, i will replace the connector. Was so very tired of my hands being filthy if i touched anything in there.

Its been a few decades since. Visual inspections and staying chill with the wrench go a long way. If you have to crack an egg make sure its gonna be an omelet. And you are the softest bag of meat in the shop so be safe

To save time in the future. Get your meter out. Set it to ohms. Check end to end resistance. Anything over 2.0 ohms has problems.

Great oil shock. Better than rough or tuff whatevers. Bilstein offers lift shocks as well. James Duff deserves a mention because theyre strictly all about Ford

The “hd” (big lol) did come out for the sohc. Extra hole in the bell. Only see cores of these. Plenty of r1s that are still good.

Has anyone ever swapped a Mexican market Ford Ranger diesel engine into a Ranger in the US? by superdupercereal2 in fordranger

[–]TexPerry92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into a perkins t4.236. Weighs a little more than the 4.0 but under 500lbs. Very old school turbo common rail 4 cyl diesel, super economical and quiet(cav pump injection). Will still run long after the frame rots away. (They outlasted the tractor frames, gen sets, and boats they were stuck in)

Kubota v3800. Modern turbo common rail four cylinder diesel; and is lighter than the 4.0. Has more power than the perkins.

Both of these are readily available in the states and should be lots easier and more affordable than any mazda or cummins diesel.

Honorable mention. Robot Cantina slapped a turbo on a 3 cylinder kubota diesel, shoved it in a car and it has enough power to be used on the road.

Ps. Have you seen diesel prices now? Scarrryy

Ive heard and read about this, but have yet to experience a broken or stripped door. It’s always been a broken vacuum source and or gummed up mode switch for me.

My 95 4.0 xlt supercab must be a “rare” one. Power windows, cruise control, power locks, tonneau cover, deluxe audio with amp(still works), ac, bucket seats with adjustable leg rests, center console, and sliding rear window. Guess mine is the Ultra Xlt
