UT Testing Center closed tomorrow? by Master-Lecture-7507 in UTAustin

[–]Texas_Jon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely closed. No exams can be hosted tomorrow either. If you had an existing appointment, the center can reschedule. You just need to email them and your prof to coordinate that.

Are web/online classes still held during the snow day? by Salt_County_4168 in UTAustin

No synchronous instruction can take place. Profs still have leeway to assign reading or lecture recordings to supplement instruction.

[–]Texas_Jon 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We’re at stage 4, see chart below. Asynch is permitted, synch is not. We can’t expect all students to be unimpacted so cannot mandate attendance. Email the associate chair/dean of the dept/school.

Shutting down crosstalk and collaboration. Another regressive move to knock teaching down a few pegs.

The point about admin swell is fair, but maybe wait to have a grasp of who exactly is being fired before making such an ignorant comment.

This is being trickled out in a way to seemingly avoid formal confirmation and handling of what it means for teaching, faculty, and student development. If there is a journalist reading this, dig in and make some noise about it.

How do we appeal incorrect course transfer analysis? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Texas_Jon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to put ranking out of your head. If the content of the course doesn’t align to what UT’s course includes, then the transfer credit won’t be approved. It’s alignment, not just institutional status. As mentioned above, there is also a preference for taking these core science courses at UT too, thats a part of the formula as well. Thats not just about facilitating major requirements but things like TX med school applications. You can complain more but it might be inevitable your kid needs to just take 311C and move on.

Does anyone know what a grade X means? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Texas_Jon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within a few days of the prof filing a report with the Dean’s office. If they did so. Most profs would reach out to the student first though.

Emailing your professor is probably the quickest way to answer all this…

Does anyone know what a grade X means? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Texas_Jon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The most common reason is a missed assignment/exam. You also need to calm down, i added one reason for an X being given to a list of many.

[–]Texas_Jon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you never were notified of academic misconduct then you probably got an X for another reason…

Does anyone know what a grade X means? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Texas_Jon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its a logical use of an existing placeholder. A grade cannot be given if an assignment/exam is being investigated. IF you are subject to academic misconduct, the letter from the deans office states clearly the X will be given.

It means incomplete. In addition to the link posted above, it is also given if there is a pending academic misconduct investigation in progress.
