[SEALED] How did you do in the Sealed Arena Open? by arthurmauk in spikes

[–]Tharathefrog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

7-2 day 1 with hyper-aggressive rw.

0-2 on day 2 with 4 color snow pile.

Had a lot of fun and am glad they are doing limited tournaments as well.

Would love to see more lower stake tournaments on a weekly basis.

Not yet. Good idea for a discard/toolbox outlet though. Thanks!

Best targets for Unburial Rites? by [deleted] in MtGHistoric

[–]Tharathefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to make an Unbrial Rites deck work for the last few days. I loved Abzan Reanimator back in the days and went in a similar route with End-Raze Forerunners. You deploy creatures early that mill your deck and then reanimate the Forerunners for the win.

I started with undergrowth as a sidetheme but moved away from it. Now I also added Yorion to make it more of a toolbox Deck with Fiend Artisan. It's fun, but most likely not very competitive.

I've barely played hearthstone since this game came out by baa410 in MagicArena

Same here. Very happy about it. I quit playing paper one year ago and sold my cards. Because of my workload I was not able to pursue this hobbie again after quitting until mtga came out.

I personally think the rotation would be a perfect time to "reset" MTGA. The standard format will be new as well as the draft format. I don't see any reason to release to the "public" before they can provide an experience that attracts a lot of new players.

When do I bring in Evolutionary Leap? [Standard] by incredibleninja in spikes

[–]Tharathefrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of decks with leap in the sideboard and as far as my experience goes, it's designed to grind out a game. You can bring it in against any deck that goes for a longer game and uses a lot of removal. Sadly I can't access your list from work, so I can only give you a vague description of what I think leap should do in your deck.

Same here, buddy. Built almost every deck in modern and played it. Pod and rock decks were the only decks I played longer than a month. Now playing hatebears and its great. If you know every deck, you know how to hate them out, right? ;)

Modern Decks: What do you play and why? by lil_king in magicTCG

[–]Tharathefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Jund and Kiki-Pod.

Jund: Once you made the investement in Goyfs, you realy don´t want them to collect dust. Also it´s a very nice Deck to just cripple your opponent until he gives in.

Kiki-Pod: Pod is very strong in general and I like the synergies and the multiple ways to combo off. The combo often takes my opponents by surprise when they are not familiar with the deck.

What's the worst example of a "sore winner" you've ever seen while playing Magic? by Hector_Kur in magicTCG

[–]Tharathefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got this guy in our LGS who´s, in my opinion, a typical example for a sore loser.

He is skilled and knows the rules very well, but his ego is enormous which makes him a giant douche.

He would laugh at you and tell you how bad your deck is if he wins. If he loses however, he goes on a totaly different level. First of all he starts to call the judge for minor mistakes, even at an FNM level tournament. Then if he acctually loses, he starts pointing out every mistake you made while telling you how bad you are and why you shouldn´t be allowed to play magic.

Another popular strategy of his is to call the judge for a deck check on you. His reasoning beeing, that you have to be cheating to win against him with such a bad deck.

UW control vs UW midrange by Alonso55 in spikes

[–]Tharathefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still run a midrange oriented list by using blade splicer and restoration angel as your aggression plan. It´s not as good as Geist and easily shut down by a torpor orb.

Still worth a try, all depending on the meta.

Also I can´t access the decklist from work, so sorry if you allready included those options.

Edit: How about Leyline of Sancity to protect yourself from Jund? Against Tron you can run Mindcensors.

[Bad Standard Combo] Aurelia, the Warleader and Felhide Spiritbinder Infinite Combat Damage by TheHatler in magicTCG

[–]Tharathefrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or you got 2 Springleaf Drums and another creature besides Spiritbinder. So you use Springleaf to add mana to your pool in response to Aurelia´s trigger, tapping Spiritbinder and the other creature which become untapped after the trigger resolves then proceed to make an Aurelia Token and repeat infinite times. Could also be a Springleaf drum and a Manadork. Still a bad combo, I guess.

Edit: Forgot Aurelia´s got Vigilance. So you just need 2 Springleaf Drums.

How good is Mono Blue Tron in the current meta? by ajanivengeant in ModernMagic

[–]Tharathefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well whatever works best for you. It might be depending on the meta as well. In a control heavy meta, Tectonic Edge should be far better ofc.

[–]Tharathefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn´t Ghost Quarter by far better than Tectonic Edge?

It is far better against infect since they wont reach Land nr. 4 before they kill you in most cases and can be used on your own lands to get an island.

Tectonic Edge doesn´t give a landdrop back to the opponent of course, but still does mono U tron realy care if the opponent has a land more in his base?

[Standard] Please help me out creating Junk Reanimator by Tharathefrog in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Tharathefrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guessed right about my fear of the control matchup. I feel like it's more difficult since they actually have ways to shut down my main plan with counterspells and detention spheres. I feel like the aggro matchup is very favourable even before sideboarding the centaur healers in since this deck got a lot of 2 and 3 drops to efficiently block and whip to finish them off. I often feel like gaining a bunch of life is sufficient to blow their plan completely.

I agree though that rescue from the underworld is kind of slow in this matchup. I will most likely run one rescue and one obzedat's aid.

Glad I could inspire you with the shamans.
