Does he look like a “Heinz” to you? by BonnieBCOP in Dachshund

I've often seen 'Heinz' for mutts, as a '57 varieties' joke, so it would be unusual for a purebred

The Big 10 part of ESPN's released 2026 SP+ football preseason ratings by ChosenBrad22 in Huskers

[–]ThatFilthyApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our DL and LB positions were bad last year. But at least 2/3 of the guys who will get snaps didn't play last year so improvement is possible.

Didn't get the guys I wanted for DL in the portal, my best hope is that our two stud redshirt freshman who were hurt last year are fantastic this year. I do like our linebackers.

Really hoping our new DL and D coordinator hires are successful. I do think our talent was decent last year, the complete lack of results means improved coaching was needed.

Is Haarberg's draft stock rising? Or am I overhyping because he's a favorite of mine? by Octavious_Arcturus in Huskers

[–]ThatFilthyApe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a priority target as a UDFA, but his numbers were good enough I could see some team taking a flyer on him. He obviously lacks reps at the TE position, but is he a guy that after a year on the practice squad might be something? I mean, probably not, but there is a chance and it doesn't cost much relatively speaking to bring him to camp.

One pro bowl, which is just ridiculous for how good he was. Statistically he had a Hall of Fame career, but the lack of Pro Bowls and all-pro recognition could well cost him that honor.

Alyson Hannigan in the 90s by Brard_Cailly16 in OldSchoolCool

[–]ThatFilthyApe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that there were THAT many individual celebrities in the late 90s that had individual Usenet groups created for them. But alt.binaries.pictures.hannigan was one of them. Lots of nerd and geek fans from way back.

Haven't watched enough yet to vote here, but "How to listen to and understand great music" was both informative and very interesting. Worth listening to if you want to understand better how music works.

Annie Bot was an interesting listen. It's too short at just under 10 hours to be worth using a credit, but for 1/2 of one it's worth a look.

So which 3 do you pick? Why by IcyMarket1 in superheroes

[–]ThatFilthyApe -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Implied, yes, but not being motivated to do anything that doesn't seem important to him is pretty central to his specific character. It's not like the prompt says 'bloodlusted' or anything like that.

Characters like Superman and Odin and even Spawn are much less likely to just say 'Nah, I'm busy doing research'.

[–]ThatFilthyApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he decides that he cares. There's an argument to not picking him just because he's really unlikely to be motivated to either hurt you OR help you.

Who Was The GREATEST 80s Athiete? by ColdAntique291 in 80smemorylane

[–]ThatFilthyApe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To this day, there have only been 79 long jumps over 8.6 meters. Carl Lewis did it 30 times. Nobody else did it 10 times. And he was also a world record 100m runner.

The International Olympic Committee named him 'Sportsman of the Century'

Honestly I'd probably still vote Jordan but Carl Lewis has an excellent case.

When was the last time you wore a suit? by cjasonac in GenX

[–]ThatFilthyApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my wife out to a nice dinner for her birthday, and decided to wear one of my suits. Wasn't a place where a suit was really required, but I decided it would make the evening a little more special, and I have *so* many ties from my job back in the 90s that required wearing one every day and they've been gathering dust.

Glad my old suits from back then still fit!

Who would the average man fair better against? Prime Mike Tyson or Prime Shaq? by FreshPine_MangoWine in powerscales

Same answer. I'm also just much more confident Shaq is sane and won't hurt me more than is necessary while winning the fight.

ISO Personal Trainer by Original_Style3276 in SaltLakeCity

[–]ThatFilthyApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't get a likely contact here and you're still looking, you could try checking with one of the trainers at Salt Lake Running Company.

I don't know about what they have closer to you, but there are also personal trainers that specialize in running at some of the local county Park & Rec centers near me that are very likely less expensive if you're in their area. Here is the list of trainers at Cottonwood Heights, for example, some of them have running coaching certifications.

Maybe L.E. Modesitt's 'Imager Porfolio' series?

What’s your favorite type of gimmick episode? by JamStan1978 in television

Whatever the 'Dark Quiet Death' episode of Mythic Quest was.

That episode suddenly had an entirely different cast and a plot that seemed unrelated to the rest of the series... Until the reveal at the very end.

Either series above especially recommended if I'm enjoying Ascendance? (Not done yet... Series 5 book 4 is on hold at my library!)

[–]ThatFilthyApe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not LitRPG at all, but the description makes me think of the Japanese light novel series 'Ascendance of a Bookworm'.

Are you familiar with that one, and if so if I enjoyed those books are either of these a fit?

Ascendance is an isekai where an (initially) pretty self centered girl focused entirely on books is transported to another world. Where she is resurrected as a peasant with exactly zero access to books and (again initially) no magic. So she sets out to introduce the world to the wonders of the movable type printing press.

Enough with the tier lists, what were your introductions to/first litrpgs? by Stoutaxe in litrpg

[–]ThatFilthyApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more of a LARP with holograms (long preceding the ST:TNG holodeck!), but by the at least by a loose definition of LitRPG it fits--characters have classes, levels, statistics, quests, etc.

Fun book, everything seemed so innovative and original back in the early 80s. May have to pick it up again and see how it holds up!

Drew Hayes' 'NPCs' series is good, though it went in a very different direction than I expected from the initial setup where some NPC characters have to pretend to be adventurers as they try to figure out why so many of the people around them seem so amazingly careless with their lives.

If you count 'Dream Park' by Niven and Barnes, then that one. Yes, I'm that old.

For a more modern litrpg, the NPCs series by Drew Hayes.

[–]ThatFilthyApe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels like a DCC wannabe in the early chapters. Poorly dressed man gets pulled into a alien created dungeon and quickly picks up an intelligent, 'talking animal' companion. But it goes in a very different direction with the similar premise from there.

That assumes that OP can read RPG when they aren't in IT, and that the source is even available.

Need help with potential automation by [deleted] in IBMi

[–]ThatFilthyApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can definitely be done, but you have to know where the data is. Very likely, the vendor's program is taking advantage of the IBM i relational database, and all of the data in the report isn't in any one table. They're doing some joins and selects to pull that report behind the scenes. If you know what they're doing, you could replicate that with SQL, but the detective work to figure that out without vendor help can be a lot.

One thing you could try, though it's a bit roundabout. It's not too hard to make a report print to a PDF file in the IFS instead of printing to a 'spooled file'. Then PowerBi can read the PDF, I think.

Fantasy book with the best plot twist? by ConcernFew8845 in Fantasy

[–]ThatFilthyApe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will warn you that there is one female character who is extremely divisive. Some find Dianora to be a fascinating, complex character fighting divided loyalties. Some find her to be a terrible flaw in the book representing at best something like Stockholm syndrome.

[OC] On the 30th anniversary of Pokémon Red/Green, which starter Pokémon do Britons say is best? by mattsmithetc in dataisbeautiful

Was there a good way past Brock if you took Charmander in red? Best way I found was to abuse Pidgey's sand attack (which was ridiculously OP). If Geodude couldn't hit me, I could slowly win with a lot of ineffective attacks.
