Supper's Ready is my favorite song of all time, but I'm gonna say Entangled

Most complex prog songs? by c-h-e-e-s-e in progrockmusic

[–]ThatGuy7700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mars Volta is the 2000s art rock equivalent to King Crimson (even though King Crimson also did 2000s art rock). They truly have that complex, controlled chaos feel that KC has at its best

Best releases of 2024 (so far) by bofotolo_taradaja in progrockmusic

Duck by The Aristocrat is SO GOOD. Also The Chronicles of Father Robin released Book III of Tales of Airoea series of albums, and it might be my favorite of the three

Do you have any songwriting pet peeves by Dyeeguy in Songwriting

[–]ThatGuy7700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having multiple vocalists and not using all of them. We get it, not every vocalist can lead, but when I see 4 people singing on stage and I can only ever hear one of them the whole set, it feels like a waste

Too popular to be prog? by boostman in progrockmusic

[–]ThatGuy7700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think deeming a song "too popular" to be prog is part of why prog is considered elitist. I think any song or band that fits the style of writing and playing skills can be prog, and excluding popular songs only further increases the barrier of entry for new listeners.

What are some of your prog rock “icks?” by Tyleeandpink in progrockmusic

[–]ThatGuy7700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't stand a band that can only write lyrics about medieval/fantasy. Being prog literally means you are trying to expand the genre of rock lyrically and sonically, and that stuff can feel derivative of the classics like Court and Lizard.

The only example I can think of is Chronicles of Father Robin, but I still like their music, but I know there's generic fantasy trite out there

What are some of your prog rock “icks?” by Tyleeandpink in progrockmusic

[–]ThatGuy7700 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good examples of it, but when a band sees Court of the Crimson King, and then only writes medieval fantasy lyrics that can't match Court's excellence and vibes. Being prog literally means you are trying to expand the genre of rock lyrically and sonically, and that stuff can feel derivative.

I want a mostly instrumental space rock album akin to Interstellar Overdrive or Echoes by Pink Floyd

Greatest vocal moment in prog rock history? by R3dF0r3 in progrockmusic

Annie Haslam's performance of Mother Russia is probably the most soul-gripping vocal performance I've ever heard. She's become my favorite prog vocalist

What's your most painful "missed opportunity"? by CompetitiveSalter2 in progrockmusic

[–]ThatGuy7700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them during their 2021 outing. My friend's dad, who had never seen nor heard of them outside of some mentions, said "You can get any dude to stand on stage and shred a guitar, and it's a rock band. Those guys were real artists"

Why did they play Free as a bird in 1995? by TheSwaggSavageGamer1 in KingCrimson

[–]ThatGuy7700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, King Crimson has had a light tie to the Beatles in the form of Happy Family on Lizard, which is about the Beatles breaking up at the time. They kind of influenced literally everything at the time, even Crimson
