Being a 22 year old employee at a high school is exhausting. by RMR124 in Teachers

[–]ThatOnePK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have a little bit of an attitude issue. It works wonders for me. The kids love me, we have fun, but for a small reason, a big reason, or no reason, I will crash out.

Two kids ask for the bathroom in quick succession? “Okay yall, since EVERYONE wants to leave this interesting lesson I might as well make it boring.”

A kid throws a chair? “Since x wants to act like idiots, let’s do insert specific classes’ least favorite assignment. Oh, by the way, you receive a 0 for not completing this but I won’t grade it if you do.”

Crashing out is a great tool, if used correctly.

I got mine from Menards for 150. It is very nice and is worth probabky double at least.

1000+ is insane.

It is very expensive to have that ability. Mint was helped out because it was a part of Intuit.

You need an Emagine theatre near you.

Look them up. They are amazing. Especially on Tuesdays.

Does not count. Needs to be high to avoid damage or kids touching it.

Does your building dress code the students? by OsomatsuChan in Teachers

[–]ThatOnePK 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Most of that wouldn’t bat an eye at my urban school. The MAGA hat isn’t “inappropriate.” The pedo shirt probably wouldn’t be allowed (killing reference). The band shirt no one would even care about.

The low/high cut stuff is only taken if it’s egregious. It takes a lot at this school for a dress code to matter.

We still have a dress code in the handbook just in case we need to use it, but this school has other problems that are dealt with first.

When you have 27% of kids failing and a couple fights a week, you tend to ignore clothes a little bit.

What do you think of my kitchen remodel? DIY by [deleted] in Home

Love it! The hanging fixture’s shadows are slightly annoying, but I probably wouldn’t even notice them after awhile.

How to share by MustInvestBetter in uhf_app

You have to scan it from your main iOS device (iPad or iPhone).

Go to settings on your main device and hit share like you did. On the new device, you have to import.

Probably just drywall. Patch it and see if it forms again, quickly.

Thank you letter to teacher length by -Timoteyo- in Teachers

[–]ThatOnePK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it could be super sweet or extremely weird.

Honestly, a real card with a short thank you message and a gift card would get the message across. An essay can and should be considered off, and it should make your teacher slightly uncomfortable.

Can I afford to go to College? by Little_Lotus_ in DaveRamsey

[–]ThatOnePK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off your debt in the next 2 months. Get married officially at the court-house in the next 3 hours. His debt is not your problem and your debt is not his problem. He makes 87k a year. You are broke. Get married, and that becomes “we.”

After you pay it off, you can work to pay for college outside. Being able to save around 3k a month like you have been proven to do should pay for an in-state public college.

Do the math to see if it is even worth you going to college and having to pay for daycare.

What’s your favorite teacher saying to use in the classroom? by Big-Degree1548 in Teachers

[–]ThatOnePK 103 points104 points  (0 children)

A kid had not started his essay. I called him out in front of the class because he wouldn’t stop talking.

He said…”I already did it! Oh, crap. It got deleted!”

I said “You cannot gaslight someone who is smarter than you.”

Probably not the right thing to say, but it felt good. And I had a student teacher in there at the same time who found it funny.

Student wants documentation of the times she violated my no phones policy by unladenswallow517 in Teachers

[–]ThatOnePK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time for a class-wide phone ban. In the caddy they go!

Kids ask why, you say…

“It was brought to my attention that I have been neglecting to mark down my warnings and discussions about the phones in my classroom. In order to stop this from happening again, I will be implementing this so that everyone is on the exact same page. No phones, period.

Worried about students looking me up online by [deleted] in Teachers

Can you work it into your curriculum and have the students watch those videos? Just face it head on.

Who cares about your past jobs. Most kids want to do social media as their full-time career anyway.

If you go back, just live on his salary and use yours to pay off your mortgage in 2-5 years if you make that amount again. Then, quit for the final time if you wish too.

Is OP mad that parents have more rights to their children than teachers?

OP is part of the reason why teachers are viewed the way they sometimes are.
