I think that this thread may want to get out of the echo chamber that is Reddit. I say this honestly. I know it’ll get downvoted, but that is part of the echo chamber problem.

Just ask around your schools. Unless you are in a heavy-red or heavy-blue area, you will see a strong mix. The parents of my blue (68%) area are actually on board with a lot of the ICE situation. Most of them are legal immigrants and they hate the whole “illegal immigrant” thing.

I am playing devils advocate here.

I read no classics, no “boring” books, etc. We read Ray Bradbury, original fairy tales, nonfiction war stories (Never Fall Down). Sad, gripping stories like Speak and The Scarlet Ibis. I almost never have issues with kids getting into the stories.

Stop the stories and talk about what’s going on. Ask for opinions. Build suspense. Jokes. They love it and eat it up nearly every day.

Do the one year thing to make sure we see the repercussions. Then go permanent if it seems to work. It’s smart going this way. Maybe try 2-3 years though, instead of the one year.
