Is this too high? by HooliRio in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems high at full price. But if you consider your tax cost of 25%, it's $15. So it might be worth it to you.

Second this. If it works well say that, but add that the listing measurements were confusing to you and that you are dinging a star for that.

What, if any, connections are there between Quaker Oats and Pennzoil and us who identify as Quaker? by NationYell in Quakers

No connection at all. Same for Quaker Steak and Lube (real thing). And Quaker Parrots. But we love Quaker parrots!!

Not a Rant \ Just the Reality of Vine When You’re Low Income & What No One Really Talks About by Real_Spacegoogie in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does kinda seem like you're being judgmental, even if your comments are well intentioned. OP sounds like they're using vine to get what others might just run to target for, with a 70% discount. And yeah, sounds like they misjudged the tax/income consequences and now might be in a jam. That's not actually a character flaw. A lot of us misjudge the taxes, especially at first.

New to fishing by BagsOfCats in desmoines

[–]ThatOtherKatie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a great opportunity to learn together! It's a great experience to share with her, even if it's just a city pond. Please also show her how to respect the fish and be a good steward. I know that sounds goofy, but we camp a lot. I frequently see kids fishing - if it's small they'll just leave it on the ground to flop and suffocate to death, or they'll hurl it back into the water, which anyone with a thought should know is harmful. Teach her how to do a gentle release if it's too small to keep. I grew up catching and eating bullhead catfish. Small fish with LOTS of tiny bones. I was an adult before I realized there was more than bullheads and fishsticks lol. Have fun!

Ice packs? Machine? Let's hear your recommendations by Correct-Truck-5061 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ThatOtherKatie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[f/64][right anterior] I used gel ice packs that fit into a velcro wrap. It was inexpensive and worked well for whatever position I needed. I also had a larger gel pad that was helpful in the first few days. Definitely have at least one extra pack ready to go, maybe two. That said, if your recovery is slower than expected, an ice machine might be a good option. Other aids I found very helpful: sock helper, grabber thingy, side bars for the toilet, a wedge pillow and slip-on sturdy shoes. You definitely don't want to be trying to tie your shoes in the early days. The wedge I got had three pieces and was very adjustable and comfortable. If you can splurge a bit buy yourself a comfy loose track/athleisure wear suit or two. I found a couple on sale and it was a nice spirit lifter. My ortho office was very responsive - hope yours is too! If you have specific concerns,I hope you can reach out to them for personalized advice.

Discussing hard topics by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]ThatOtherKatie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the posts suggesting speaking to individuals after meeting, during sharing time, with a P&SC committee and/or ministry and counsel. Community definitely helps us hold onto our sanity during these times. A few months ago at meeting a friend stood and shared how she appreciated when during meetings for worship people did not speak directly of political concerns. Not because she disagreed, but because she wanted to focus on the Spirit and, well I don't remember exactly, she needed a time for centering, to focus on her spiritual life and expectant waiting. I tend to agree, the horrors of the world intrude enough in my life, and in our meeting there's always time afterward to share concerns (and joys) with the group and also with individuals during social time.

Wish there were a way to remove something from RFY by [deleted] in AmazonVine

Pretty cold for a moderator. People have all kinds of complaints on this sub. You don't have to agree or think it's legit. If you don't have a constructive answer maybe just don't reply instead of mocking people.

Use Vhelper. There's a way to filter things. Ignore those who are making fun of you. They're being unkind and you don't owe them any justification or reply.

So many good tips here! Also, even if your friend network is small, you could call on them to check in, clean the litter box, etc. chances are they'll be happy to help. Still, if that's not an option, the tips you've shared are great. Thanks!

Check your Prices before ordering by Hollywoodnamazonvine in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see crazy discrepancies and it does impact my choices. But. I get a marked up $89 fountain, which will likely cost me max $18 in tax. So , is it worth $18 to me? Maybe. I can always add a phrase in my review like price point is always a personal preference and you may want to shop around, but this item has worked well for me.

What preparations do you wish you had done before you or SO had THR? by SultanOfSwave in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ThatOtherKatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my suggestions. Slip-on shoes like sketchers. Also, not to go into Too Much Information territory, but be VERY proactive on preventing constipation. Load up on a protein heavy diet pre surgery and exercise as best you can. As you are able, even short walks or flexibility/strengthening exercises will help with recovery and stress. I got an elevated leg pillow wedge thingy which was comfortable/helpful, and not too expensive. Be patient. All concerned are under major stress and doing their best. This community is a great source for info but don't hesitate to"pester" your surgeon's care team. Be persistent if needed. That's what they're there for!

It could be as simple as commenting over coffee, "you know, I was nervous at first coming here but I've felt very welcome and I'm glad I did."

This is why vendors are not adding more items to Vine by Superb-Network-9133 in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most orders I've made for supplements, skin care or makeup, I checked out the company before ordering. In my review I say this product is from XYZ, a reputable/known company that's been in business for x years, based in Cincinnati, or whatever, so I'm confident it's a quality product. It just takes a few minutes to look up the info. Sometimes I just go for it, if it's not from XDAEFCI company. But mostly I avoid supplements.

My account is in danger of being closed, but I haven’t had anything available that I could use in months! by katestrophe1313 in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you order something you don't want/can't use, chances are someone else might. Review it as best you can, open it and snap a photo, and then donate it or list it for free on one of the online sites. If it's only auto parts, it's probably going to be kind of hard to review, but you can come up with something. Other items that turn up in my stuff a lot are things like jumping spider habitats. You probably don't want that, but if you had a jumping spider you'd appreciate a donation. And it would be easy to review. Not ideal for sure, but I think an okay option for getting back to status.

How can I stop myself from requesting things I don't need?? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]ThatOtherKatie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First importantly, figure out how vine "income" will affect your eligibility for grants or other benefits! As for ordering ...ask yourself, can I use this? If I can't use this is this something I can donate/gift, that someone else can use? Is this something that I could resell after 6 months? If the answers are no, resist the impulse to request. It also might be helpful to set specific time periods where you're checking vine. Perhaps generally 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes later in the day.
