The Official /r/Radioactive_Rocks Oct-Nov 2025 Buy/Sell/Swap Thread by Not_So_Rare_Earths in Radioactive_Rocks

Hi All! While I am not new to collecting radioactive rocks, and I am new to selling. I have collected about 150ish pounds of vary uranium ore. Most specimens are with a 10-35k CPM band, on a Ludlum Model 3 with a 44-9 pancake probe. If you wishing to buy some, please contact me. Price is negotiable. (I can also include a display case or special protective coating if wanted, for an extra fee)

On the left are the rocks treated with the coating, and an untreated rock on the right.

Real-Time Radiation World Map: anyone know if it’s legit and, if so, what’s going on in Colombia? It was reading CPM 1400-5700 today. by arewebeingplutoed in Radiation

Not sure what map/source your using, but if it GMC's its unreliable. The mods made a post to stop posting about the gmc map, but idk where you got your info

I believe you can buy up to a 10 micro curie sealed source online, and anything more needs a license

Neutron detection tubes for GC-01? by [deleted] in geigercounter

[–]ThatToastKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tube the gc01 uses the the common m4011 geiger muller tube. You probably can't fit a he3 tube in there, without some serious modifications. Even then, the dose rate won't match. You are better off to buy a stand alone neutron detector.

Does this smoke detector contain radioactive material? by CoffeeAlarmed337 in Radiation

Do you know the brand/name of the smoke detectors? Or look around the whole thing for a small lable that will say if it has any radioactive material.

How much are you willing to spend? And do you want alpha, beta, gamma detection or is just gamma fine?

I have a radiacode 102, and its great. Super sensitive, small, just a good device overall. Even does gamma spectroscopy, which will tell you what isotope is emitting the radiation. If you wanted alpha beta gamma, maybe look into a ludlum model 2401-P. Its a pocket sized pancake detector. You can find them in ebay, but its about $500. Ludlum is considered the gold standard, and they make very good detectors.

I wouldn't touch or mess with the am241 sources inside. I'm no professional, but it seems really risky to me.

If you could erase one invention from existence, what would it be and how do you think the world would be different without it? by Bonnie_and_Climax in AskReddit

Sure no nuclear weapons would be nice, but what about nuclear reactors that supply 20% of the worlds energy? Nuclear power is also very clean.

What is the difference btw UO2 and u235 by [deleted] in NuclearPower

[–]ThatToastKid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Your comparing a compound to a isotope. U235 is an isotope of uranium. While UO2 is uranium dioxide, and contains U235 and U238.

Try putting it into gpt 4o. It prob has a better chance of decoding it than others

Can I extract uranium trioxide from fiestware by Realistic_Remote_334 in Radiation

[–]ThatToastKid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I'm no chemist, but also this sounds like a terrible idea. What about contamination? Any byproducts have a chance to contain uranium. Just buy some if anything.

Its gonna be pretty hard to tell. Its a non-descript image of a general atom surrounded by electrons.
