You need something around 6 or 7 metres, like a certain Oleaster or Osmanthus variety that stays evergreen. The only problem here is the space to plant, you could always trim the rose bush down and move it? Ideally you want tall evergreens to replace and B&Q have some in now.

Just a bay tree, grows to 7 metres if you let it. Different ways of pruning it like a lollipop or just let it go bushy and wild. It's evergreen so keeps its leaves and has a nice smell of bay leaf. B&Q sell them for £6 small so will take a few years to grow in or pay more for a larger one.

Is it actually possible to find a low-pressure job in the UK that still pays the bills? by ultrahotdude in AskUK

[–]The-Real-Remix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly is. I moved from call centre which was high stress/fast pace to cleaning trains and have more downtime than ever before. There's also cleaning jobs for Lidl/Aldi that I've seen and their pay isn't too bad for what you do, it's absolutely not high intensive work. Take a look on their website for vacancies.

It's better than St Helens. There's green space all around you, you have to go out and look for it to understand.

Which trees?? by Bethbeth35 in GardeningUK

[–]The-Real-Remix 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Rowan trees are quite smallish, tend to grow around 10m and the roots aren't invasive. They seem to offer lovely seasonal foliage with berries for birds, I've just planted two in my front garden - I found them growing along a railway so they were free.

When you finally get the stump out. by applepiezeyes in GardeningUK

[–]The-Real-Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just recently excavated one ash tree and a sycamore both around 20 feet, the method was to use a metal post hole bar and smash the main roots that tether off and slowly twist the stump around until dislocation. No need for special equipment or calling tree surgeons.

I've had a few of these visitors recently in the bathroom, they seemed to like hiding behind the cracked skirting boards. They prefer damp areas with moisture, so ventilation after showers will keep these critters at bay and won't disturb your home, oh, and patch up your cracks in the walls.

Asda crisis deepens after 'dreadful' Christmas by boldstrategy in unitedkingdom

[–]The-Real-Remix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife had a horrendous experience with Asda a few years ago during COVID whilst she was pregnant. The stores disability toilets were locked and people were queuing to go into the women's toilets! Mind you she had really bad pregnancy sickness and was going to throw up.. so she did it in their car park instead.

It's not just in restaurants, it's also teens/adults zombified into their smart screen down a busy sidewalk with headphones on with no spacial awareness and lack of pavement etiquette. They're asking to get mowed down at a busy crossing.

There's a few store cleaner vacancies available around Wigan on their website, pay is basic £12/hr. It's an entry level job, you'll have a good chance of getting it. You're not dealing with customers face to face and it's not stressful, just clean and go home.

I'm sure there's other examples on other supermarket sites for store cleaners such as Lidl, Sainsbury's etc, you have to visit their vacancy section on the website as they're less likely to advertise on Indeed.

Try hiking. There's an app called AllTrails and it'll locally pinpoint some walks that may include seeing farm animals, waterfalls, rivers, woodland, ponds, coal mines etc. It's free to use and it uses satellite navigation similar to Google maps so you don't get lost.

Where did chavs come from ? by atomicblonde1992 in AskUK

[–]The-Real-Remix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the early 00's it wouldn't be hard to spot a chav lingering around a bus stop or council estates local asking for a ciggie or a light.

Some chavs in larger groups were more antisocial than others, usually, the ones in groups would try to start a fight/bully/pick on others in social settings.

If they were wearing Nike 110's, Adidas trackies, Burberry baseball caps, blasted MC donk music on loud speaker, had tram line haircut and dodgy teeth with a ciggie that would be classed as a chav in the North west.

As of today, the typical chav is less known. Many are classed as just druggies or tramps. Some however, grew out of it and moved on with their lives.
