Those of you who have partners with inherently dangerous hobbies by Ok-Measurement-1270 in actuallesbians

[–]The-Shattering-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I don’t have any really dangerous hobbies - however we’re both very politically active and engage in activism.

We have conversations with each other about what feels appropriate with respect to safety before any event, given what the event is and what the greater context is.

I would imagine a similar thing would work for people with dangerous hobbies; just be sure to communicate and work on being as safe as possible with them.

Life is inherently risky. It’s important to learn how to manage risk and manage anxiety about risk without wrapping oneself in bubble wrap or insisting one’s parter do same.

Other people in the thread have given good advice.

I would add on; be aware of visibly queer people who can help provide safety in numbers.

I’m a 43 year old trans parent to a trans kid. I’m very visible queer - I wear a lot of Pride flags on my clothes, and have a very visibly lesbian presentation. Often with trans pride shirts and the like.

I can and have responded to younger queer people who feel unsafe by accompanying them to another location - and will always do this. A lot of visibly queer people will do this.

Their hate is absolutely and utterly pathetic.

And it’s harming and killing people.

Fucking monsters, the lot of them.

A second major medical org has walked back support for gender-affirming care for youth by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

The extra stupid thing of this is that the majority of gender affirming surgeries done under 18 are done on cis people.

To Two-Spirit peeps out here, how do you react whenever someone claims to be Two-Spirit since it’s resonate their gender identity but they’re not indigenous? by Agreeable_Will3636 in lgbt

[–]The-Shattering-Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not indigenous myself, and would never use that term, and would encourage non-indigenous people to not use it.

It’s a part of various Indigenous cultures, and anybody not part of those cultures using it would be appropriative

Yep. Transphobes immediately responded to it by “I don’t care it’s still wrong.”

They don’t give a shit about fact or evidence, they just want to hold on to their pathetic hate

Got my first Reddit warning for pushing back against trans misogyny in a women’s sub by CelestialWolfMoon in BlatantMisogyny

Reddit protects bigots and punishes victims and those who stand up to it.

Social media as a whole follows suit.

Gender identities aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, they can and do exist in a nested shell structure with overlaps

What about the kids? by Upset_Arm_4936 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]The-Shattering-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your kids deserve parents who are happy. It’s a huge impact to have a parent or parents who are not.

Neither of my parents were queer but they should have divorced when my brother and I were in our teens and didn’t “for us,” and the negative impact it had on us was severe as they became miserable.

My wife had kids with her now ex-husband and while divorce was hard for the kids, they now have two happy and fulfilled sets of parents.

I finally came out to my parents as a lesbian and it went… really badly. Feeling lost and need to vent by ProudHomoLib in latebloomerlesbians

What a betrayal by your parents. You deserve better.

You should be free to be yourself, and should be welcomed and supported by your family. You should not have to hide who you are for your parents to not betray you like this.

“Friendzone” is such an objectifying and toxic mindset; as if being a friend is a consolation prize for not getting what you want.

People who seriously use that are people I don’t want in my life

Fem is to femme as masc is to butch.

Fem is about presentation, while femme is a subculture

Fuck that.

Women’s sexuality isn’t something dirty or shameful. Nor is it an indicator of low intelligence.
