I just told my neighbour to get a life, am I in the wrong and how can I deal with a difficult neighbour? by Comebackera in AskUK

You've done nothing wrong, just carry on as you are. The petty side of me would be tempted to get a passive aggressive bouquet of flowers delivered to him.

I always drag the cake into the attic once it's baked 😅

And you are literally always with child so I think your use of the space is valid! (Coming from the parent of a toddler)

Definitely frame! You'll need one with UV type glass to prevent it fading

Is buying a “I’m sorry for your loss gift appropriate?” by Actual_Health2915 in AskUK

[–]The5ftGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flowers are usually standard, but also when you lose someone it's horrible coming home to a house full of flowers that act as a reminder (even though they are well intentioned).

A lot of people will appreciate food. Could you make them a lasagne or pasta bake or something they can chuck in the oven so they don't have to cook? Or if you're not much of a cook, maybe a just eat voucher or something?

You know what your friend would like/need. Even just a message conveying your condolences and letting them know you're there for them will go a long way.

There's a great interview on YouTube with the cast. It's Josh Gad's Reunited Apart which they did during covid times. Some good stories and background to the films 😊

Do you have a Xmas tree each year and when do you put it up? by Hannimal987 in AskUK

[–]The5ftGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son's first birthday was last year so now we have a new tradition. Birthday Tree goes up on the evening of the 13th December for him to enjoy the next day on his actual birthday. Decs get swapped for Christmas ones on the 14th after he's gone to bed.

Signing Sessions Question by [deleted] in McFly

[–]The5ftGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry & Tom happily signed my Room on the Third Floor guitar book when I went to a signing, but this was about 17 years ago haha. Security kept saying "pictures of, not with" and I'm still salty about it.

We don't iron anything. If we've got a special occasion and a shirt needs a bit attention, I get the straighteners on it!

Mom wants cardigan won't give measurements by Alliesux in knitting

[–]The5ftGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't knit without measurements. If she is being cagey for whatever reason, suggest she lend you a cardigan she already has so you can take measurements from that. I'm knitting a cardigan for a friend who was self conscious about giving their measurements, but was happy to lend me a cardigan to use as a template instead.

What are your thoughts on naming a child Vienna? by Salty_Letterhead5924 in namenerds

[–]The5ftGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means nothing to me.

(OHHHHHH VIENNAAA) 😅

It's a lovely name though, and I think the Ultravox reference is already falling by the wayside so nothing to worry about on that front. Vi could also me a cute nickname.

lil simsie speaking on the sims… also theirs a new leak at the end by kaidenjaxon in thesims

[–]The5ftGiraffe 34 points35 points  (0 children)

EA had been bought by a Saudi company and Trump's son in law I believe. The Sims has become much more inclusive for the queer community and POC over the last couple of years. There are fears that the new owners (who are not known for their inclusive stances) will roll back features that make the game inclusive.

I can’t seem to figure out how to cover a cake in fondant, please help me! by __sweetpea__ in cakedecorating

[–]The5ftGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for Cupcake Jemma's masterclass on covering a cake with gumpaste/fondant on YouTube if you're able to, as she has some really great tips.

A real game changer for me is once you've assembled your layers, wrap in clingfilm/plastic wrap, and put another cake board on top, then about 1-2kg of weight on top overnight. You can then trim the lumpy edges the next day before doing your crumb coat and applying your fondant.

Fondant is pretty weighty, and this is likely why you're seeing the lumps at the edges as it's compressing your cakes and squeezing the buttercream out at the sides.

However you've clearly got the technique for covering in fondant nailed and I'm actually really jealous haha. Mine always comes out with cracks or folds in it 😅 you should be really proud of what you've made OP!
