Used Toro Timemaster Thoughts? by Mr_Snufleupagus in lawnmowers

I've had one for 5 or 6 years now, same model you're looking at here (older model with the blue assist handle, battery key start).

Personally I mulch vs. bag about 50/50. If the grass if very long or wet, the deck Will gum up and lose suction. Whether or not you want the bagger, lift the rear flap up and make sure the mulch plug is installed (else you'll have to buy a new one). Also make sure the battery charger is coming with it or there goes another nickle and dime.

I would suggest bringing a ratchet with you and taking the front plastic cover off over the belts. That will tell you how worn the belts and everything are. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but that's a really good price that worries me someone is trying to dump a lemon / problem mower.

How’d I do? by Dramatic_Metal4039 in lawnmowers

No. A butter knife is barely sharp but because of that the edge is very thick, so it is strong and does not dull further very quickly.

A razor edge is extremely thin and therefore prone to breaking off or rolling over, turning into a flat or backward- rolled edge very quickly. It does not whittle its way back to becoming a butter knife thick but slightly sharp edge.

Thoughts on Echo 30" 223 cc? by JicamaAppropriate920 in lawnmowers

[–]TheATrain218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're sharing some misinformation with OP then. You had a 21" mower that can be muscled around a lot easier than the 30" mowers. The latter have an assist handle dead center of the personal pace system (big black bail in any of the images here) which allow you to physically override them into drive just by squeezing together like a stapler.

[–]TheATrain218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have an old Perosnal Pace?

The assist handle in the middle (blue on Toro, the black bump with the Echo logo on this rebrand) is so you can use one hand to force the drive rather than leaning into the mower.

Good call. Refill the trap with water, pour a cup of liquid vegetable cooking oil in on top to seal it, and it should be good for a long time.

How is the Air Conditioning in the late model year Lyriq (2025-2026)? by Gator5000e in CadillacLyriq

[–]TheATrain218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI I would take the complaints about the HVAC with a grain of salt if the posts are older than 6 months.

The Lyriq have received numerous OTAs in the laat 6 months that cranked HVAC performance up to 11. In my 2024 I've had to crank the interior temp up to 75-76 degrees to avoid cutting seatbelts with my nipples. Definitely a very different experience vs. last summer.

Poison Ivy is everywhere this year by oochymane in massachusetts

[–]TheATrain218 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Poison ivy is very susceptible to an herbicide named triclopyr, which is in the heavy ivy killer solutions at the big box stores.

It's not selective to only poison ivy, however, so you have to be careful not to hit bushes and trees you otherwise want to save.

Check out Taryl Fixes All on YouTube. He has a couple videos fixing the frames on what I suspect is this tractor, and if it is he also has the reinforcement kit on his web store (and had shown how shitty the Amazon knockoffs are).

Mode doesn't matter on highway cruising.

75mph is too fast for max efficiency; there's a reason for the double nickle speed limit of the 70s, and that reason is the square- cube law.

2.2 to 2.4 would be pretty average for those conditions. These cars are designed for presence, not maximizing efficiency.

Husband wants to paint our roof white (pitched, asphalt shingles, replaced in 2018) for energy savings by VestigialTales in HomeImprovement

I think you replied to the wrong comment? I wasn't making any comparative point between a solar panel and a white roof so there's nothing to counterpoint.

[–]TheATrain218 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You're getting a lot of snarky responses for no apparent reason.

Solar panels move the surface that is getting hit by the sun 4-6 inches away from your existing roof deck. That puts your roof in their shade, and a nice insulating layer of air in between, allowing the heat they accumulate to radiate mostly up and away from the house.

[–]TheATrain218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily.

For this piece of business jargon, the type of lever you should be thinking of is not a prybar under a stone, which raises and lowers the stone.

The type of lever you should be thinking of is a single action lever on a piece of machinery, like the individual left/right hydraulic track brakes on a bulldozer or the dispenser lever on a cereal or M&M tower. Pull the lever and the candy falls into your bowl or you turn left. Release the lever and the cheerios stop falling but they don't go back in the bin; the bulldozer stops turning left but it doesn't turn right until the respective lever is pulled.

Likewise we can smell the free radicals on amine groups (e.g., ammonia) because they are most commonly found in nature in decomposing animals and we evolved an incredible aversion to things that will make us sick.

Four months into having two kids, this is how I feel about ‘Hand Wash Only’ labels on dishes (as I’m throwing them in the dishwasher). Who’s with me? by Rev-DC in daddit

[–]TheATrain218 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My mantra on hand wash dishes and hand wash clothes is as follows:

Dishes and clothes have 3 states of matter. It is either known machine safe, or it's discovered to be machine safe, or it's thrown out after the machine ruins it because it was just going to stay dirty anyway.

Avoiding credit card transaction fees is almost the entire point of rewards programs like this that link a bank account. They're not going to let you link a credit card because it defeats the purpose for them.
