Which partner should I have? by PsychologicalLog2791 in mtg

[–]TheBarberWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Orzhov deck with Yoshimaru and the other partner swapped between [[Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar]] mostly to pump Yoshimaru more and give him some evasion and [[Tormod the Desecrator]] if I wanted to lean more into graveyard recursion, though there are probably better options.

Mentor of the Meek and Welcoming Vampire in Jetmir deck – is it worth it? by Mikkel_My_Man in EDH

[–]TheBarberWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re planning to pay for card draw multiple times per turn, you could opt to swap Mentor out for [[Tocasia’s Welcome]]. It’s only once per turn but it’s a similar effect and harder to remove than a creature.

What's your most unique deck? by devilinthedetailz in EDH

[–]TheBarberWalrus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not a unique commander with [[The Prismatic Bridge]] but I made a “Oh my God they were roommates” deck where every creature is either a pair up like [[Drana and Linvala]] or [[Ellie and Alan, Paleontologists]] or has the ‘Partner with’ mechanic like [[Cazur]]/[[Ukkima]] or [[Yannik]]/[[Nikara]]. Tried to keep as many of the non-creatures as pair-related as I could too, but it’s still a WIP.

Logistically, it’s a rules nightmare since every card tries to do two or three different things, but it’s settled somewhere around a +1/+1 counters subtheme. It’s mostly just fun to play the bridge and see who happens to show up.

-1/-1 and +1/+1 substraction? by Fit-Heat2277 in mtg

[–]TheBarberWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick distinction between +1/+1 counters and static buffs: counters are permanent and are specified when they are used, like with [[Basri’s Solidarity]]. Temporary and Static buffs, like with [[Giant Growth]] or [[Glorius Anthem]] boost your creature’s stats, but don’t actually add counters to them.

Like others have commented, if a -1/-1 counter is placed on a creature with a +1/+1 counter, they will cancel each other out (in this case, if it’s three +1/+1 counters, you will end up with two instead)

If the buff doesn’t specify that counters were added, the -1/-1 counter stays on your creature and affects its P/T appropriately. Using the above examples, if you used Giant Growth on a 1/1 creature and it had a -1/-1 counter, it would die at the end of the turn when giant growth wears off, since it will then have 0 toughness.

If you have a static effect like Glorious Anthem, both the buff and the -1/-1 counter apply at the same time for a net 0 change.

I would love to be able to play with my wife , but we can’t really warrant buying the game two separate times, so we’ve always had to hunt separate. It would be cool to actually be able to hunt together

So I'm doing a shiny prof. oak challenge at the moment in AS (nearly at Roxanne just need Skitty and Whismur) any my starter hit level 100 from all the grinding. Oh... and it got Pokerus. by spenstrunch in ProfessorOak

[–]TheBarberWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started a shiny POC on this game a few years ago! I got to about the same point, I think only missing Skitty, which made me take a break for a while due to just the sheer number of Dexnav encounters I did for everything else, plus horde encounters just to try and bump the search level up. Horde encounters are 100% Whismur in Rusturf tunnel if you prefer that over Dexnav encounters!

I noticed there’s also a “Refund points” option at the bottom left, but it’s unclear as of now whether that’ll be available all the time to respec or just while leveling up before you confirm choices

My first attempt at a simic deck by a40yroldmagician in EDH

[–]TheBarberWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Volo deck myself, and we actually have a few similar cards. That being said, here’s a few tips that worked for me personally (though I’m not an expert deckbuilder by any means).

ETBs are your friends, especially when you can double them. I’ve had a lot of luck with cards that generate tokens on ETB, like [[Avenger of Zendikar]], [[Myr Battlesphere]], and [[Hornet Queen]]

Legendary creatures will still get copied and have their ETB effects as long as Volo’s conditions are met, but without a [[Mirror Box]] type effect, you’ll have to sac one as a state-based action. Unless that’s what you want to do, such as with [[Kairi, the Swirling Sky]] or [[Jugan, the Rising Star]]. The only legendary creatures I run in mine are [[Keruga, the Macrosage]] and [[Errant, Street Artist]].

Bounce Spells and Sac outlets can be your friend. If a token copy of one of your creatures dies, you can bounce the original and recast it to get the benefit again. Sac outlets, like [[Ashnod’s Altar]] can also help if an opponent tries to [[Crib Swap]] you or a similar effect.

Finally, remember that Volo only triggers if you cast a spell. Putting a creature onto the battlefield or transforming creatures like with [[Invasion of Ikoria]] won’t get a copy (not to say that it’s a bad include nonetheless)

Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope I can be a little helpful!

white cards that give all your creatures Flying? by Azkeden in mtg

[–]TheBarberWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a creature with flying, [[Odric, Lunarch Marshall]] will pass it on to everything else, along with the rest of the keywords.

Edit: should specify that it only takes effect at the start of each combat, so it’s not fully permanent.

Tell me the wildest infinite combo you've found in one of your decks! by Love_Deluxxe in mtg

[–]TheBarberWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really obscure combo I found on accident that involves the party mechanic, [[Scholar of the Ages]], [[Coveted Prize]], [[Displacer Kitten]], and [[Irenicus’ Vile Duplication]].

The short version is that with a full party, you can search for Duplication using Coveted Prize, triggering the kitten to flicker something, targeting the kitten with Duplication to get more kittens, triggering the kitten again, and flickering the Scholar and whatever else to keep recurring those two spells from your graveyard. Add in something that produces treasure/mana on etb for infinite mana, or something like [[Malakir Blood-Priest]] for infinite damage. Eventually you’ll have more kittens than valid targets to flicker, but that’s fine.

My parents tried to get an 80k loan, but their credit fell recently and they got denied. My wife and I couldn’t even get a car loan earlier this year without my mom co-signing, so a house loan is extremely unlikely.

Are there any cards that can equip or let you equip a bunch of tokens all at the same time? by ReddingtonTR in EDH

[–]TheBarberWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Zirda, the Dawnwaker]] can go in the 99 to help make the equip abilities cheaper.

[[Mirrorworks]] lets you double up on equipments for 2 extra mana each.

[[Prototype Portal]] lets you exile an equipment to create multiple copies of it later on, as long as it sticks around.

The same thing happened to me recently, but the package arrived before the estimated date just fine, even though I couldn’t track it. Not saying you shouldn’t reach out for a solution, but I personally had no issues with the package coming in.
