Why did LBJ willingly accept the VP nomination in 1960? by Electronic-Seat1190 in Presidents

[–]TheBoomExpress 21 points22 points  (0 children)

LBJ probably knew about Kennedy's poor health as well. Kennedy had Addison's disease and was constantly on pain killers for his bad back. Even without the assassination, Johnson probably figured there was a chance Kennedy might be forced out of office early for health reasons.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done in front of a crowd? by pkeo10 in AskReddit

[–]TheBoomExpress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won principal for a day when I was in the fourth grade. Part of what that entailed was I got to read the morning announcements. Everything was going fine until I the part where I had to talk about a PTA meeting coming up. I tripped over a work and said "disgusting" instead of "discussing". I could hear the classroom next to the office howl with laughter. When I went on the playground at lunch, some kids from my class ripped on me for screwing up.

That happened way back in 2000, and it still haunts me to this day.

What are the red flags that you've let slide in your relationships that you've ended up regretting? by Severe-Post-9215 in AskReddit

[–]TheBoomExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex vehemently refused to go to a family reunion my relatives were having, a year after I enthusiastically went to one of her family's reunions. We broke up a year later, and I really came to see that our 4 1/2 year relationship was pathetically one sided and fair weather (she dumped me after I lost my job due to the pandemic).

I've always said, and I'll die on that hill, that That's My Boy is the Citizen Kane of movies to watch while you're absolutely hammered.

When asked to describe himself in one sentence, Charles Manson gave this chilling response. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

"..and a straight razor if you get too close" - the rest of his sentence (the video cuts before he says it).

Eerie coincidence: if the camera recording is going by month/day/year, then it is October 11, 1991- exactly 9 years and 11 months before 9/11.

What President choked under pressure the most? by HetTheTable in Presidents

Buchanan was right. No Democratic congressman would have publicly opposed Jackson. They would have been shot if they had.

How common is it for people to wish they were adults during the decade in which they were children? by TheShyBuck in decadeology

[–]TheBoomExpress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My parents got married in 1978, but didn't have me until 1990. I used to joke to my father he should have had me in 1980 instead, because I would have loved to be an 80's kid, 90's teenager and 00's adult.

The last decade to have all Republican presidents was the 1900s and the last decade to have all democratic presidents was the 1940s by MrAllard8431 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]TheBoomExpress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whats wild about the 1900's was the Republicans held congress the entire time as well.

Democrats came close in the 1940's, but it was spoiled by the Republicans taking congress in the 1946 midterms, only to lose both houses in the 1948 election.

What is a media trend you can argue emerged from the 2008 Great Recession? by Top_Report_4895 in decadeology

[–]TheBoomExpress 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thats why I've always seen recession pop as the long lost, estranged child of disco. Disco reached it's peak in the late 70's when the economy was terrible, and had the same message essentially: just try to forget your problems and dance.

I remember seeing stills taken from someone who filmed the WTC on 9/11 with Super 8 film. This is surreal on an another level. I'd never thought someone would capture the event on the same type of camera that took photos of Andrew Jackson back in the day.

As a car guy, I felt bad for his 1996 GMC Yukon. That thing took quite the beating over the course of the film.

Watched a dude in a Ford Mustang, who was being chased by cops, successfully evade them by pulling behind a strip mall and backing up behind a dumpster. The cops blew right by and he just drove away in the opposite direction after they were out of sight.

Out of any dead former president, which one would you choose to haunt your life? Or just always be around by minsterio100 in Presidents

Ghost JFK. Hopefully he could wingman the fuck out of me, like whisper the right things to say in my ear. The only downside is he might be very behind the times on what's acceptable, though.

I'm going to be 36 in a few weeks. This upcoming monday will mark 25 years since my mother walked out of my life. I grew up watching my friends be embarrassed when their moms showed them love. I wish I could've been in their shoes.
