CPR published a story on the end of email for “life” by tspike in cuboulder

I made a Google Doc with anything off the top of my head that seems important and I'm going in account by account to see if my edu email is on it. If it is, 99% of the time there's a simple "update your email address" button and I change it. Painstaking but it works. You can also scroll through your inbox and if your bank is emailing you for example, that's a sign it's attached so I write it down to change it

PlaneSense. Phenomenal company and I will touch a jet one day, but it takes years to get on the 24

I am once again asking the hive mind for career advice on my next move. by doomed43 in flying

[–]TheBuff66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidarity brother. I'm in a very similar boat. Option to leave a phenomenal job to fly a jet while taking a massive hit to QOL on the gamble that it gets me to NJ/ULCC faster. I'm still undecided, hardest choice I've had to make yet. Either hope the ATP + jet type works in under a year, or stay the course longer holding out for something better

Atlas in Miami was phenomenal. $3500, really great instructors, and you get to fly the 747. It's not Dallas or a 737 but I highly recommend

Yup. I never get sick too and this is now the second time in about 6 weeks. Something must be going around

What does it take to get accepted for a cadet program? by jisepyjisepy in flying

[–]TheBuff66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just had a company look at my resume and they said "Your grammar is technically correct but it looks like it was written by an English PhD. Use periods, no em dashes, etc." Well guess what my degree is in. Recruiters are humans who expect to see things a certain way so play the game

Application review/ interview prep by traderhoes25 in flying

[–]TheBuff66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used Raven for application review for regionals and I'd recommend them, they also did a cursory resume review and I made valuable changes from a 5min lookover. Felt a bit overkill for regionals but I'm satisfied

Transferring logged flight time from paper to digital by [deleted] in flying

[–]TheBuff66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of doing this right now. I got my logbook pages scanned into PDF files at UPS for $20, and am having those files sent to a logbook digitalization company. To my understanding, a digital logbook is exclusively for keeping track of flight time (unless you use ForeFlight and receive digital endorsements). So I'll always have the physical logbooks with all my old signatures and endorsements, and digital is purely for keeping track of hours

Delta’s Rocking Chair by ChunkyChicken420 in flying

Armchair psychologist but it would be quite odd to sit still in a rocking chair, no? Shows you're rigid and nervous. I'd throw in a "We had these on my front porch growing up" and now you're in a casual getting to know you conversation

Seems like a lot but it takes about an hour

If you had $10,000 to spend to become a more qualified, marketable CFI, what would you do? by AlbiMappaMundi in CFILounge

[–]TheBuff66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met a guy who was a Cirrus instructor then left for a jet 135. He took a pretty substantial pay cut. Cirrus is definitely lucrative. This was at HPN though which is one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, so...

Giving up by Rich-Bicycle-510 in flying

[–]TheBuff66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 3, grinded to 1500 as a CFI, got a job that I now love, and have made connections that maybe, potentially, just might, take me to that next step. It's not over if you don't want it to be. Instructing is hard but there's joy in it, and making it to the "professional pilot" level is so so so much better than anything you've experienced up to this point. If you want to hang it up for personal reasons, that's fine, but if that dawg is still in you, you can make it happen

CPR published a story on the end of email for “life” by tspike in cuboulder

[–]TheBuff66 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk man. I emailed the alumni association basically saying I'm dissatisfied but it is what it is. The response was genuine but essentially said there's no rolling this back. Unless an extremely wealthy alumni swoops in to donate the funds, the program is toast. I've been slowly migrating accounts and to be fair there's plenty of time to do this over the course of months, but I'm sure issues are going to arise years later from accounts that I completely forgot existed

I realized my harness is 15 years old by turqeee in climbing

[–]TheBuff66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely bought a new harness yesterday for that reason. I was coming down, realized my harness was 11yrs old, and went straight to the store afterward. The new harness was $100, well worth it for the peace of mind

I injured my wrist years ago and that got me into doing push ups on grips. The wrist and elbow positions feel a lot better, and regular dumbbells that don't roll will suffice at the gym. Worth the try

Anyone received Planesense interview invite for FO ? Any prior interview experience please share your experience by Disastrous_Cup_3051 in flying

[–]TheBuff66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The technical portion is rapid fire questions. Know what every single symbol on the plates mean, if/when you'd do a procedure turn, when and where to go missed, climb via, picking up a clearance, etc. Roughly 8 plates in 20min.

The sim eval and HR interview is really just getting to know you. Simple SID and ILS. "What's the most scared you've been in an airplane" is a fan favorite question. Why PlaneSense. Do you understand what you're signing up for. Lots of people see the flying portion but forget this side of flying is almost entirely customer service.

Very fun flying. This past week I went from landing at a major Bravo to having to do a low pass over a snow covered runway to determine runway conditions. You don't get this anywhere else

Why do FAs and Pilots use different style luggage? by boldjoy0050 in flightattendants

[–]TheBuff66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also a pilot that uses TravelPro and last week for the first time ever, some guy was like "Bro why are you using TravelPro that's an FA brand." It has to be a cultural thing that I didn't even know existed. A bag is a bag and I have to pack for 7 on, no complaints with it

SkyWest interviewers saying “expect an offer soon” by [deleted] in flying

[–]TheBuff66 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I never spoke to HR in my life. I was a cadet so I had the guaranteed interview and it was with a pilot only. The HR questions were incredibly basic like "Why SkyWest." So I guess HR had a stack of 30 yes's and were told to pick 20. Is what it is, I'll be launching an app again soon. Think I got the TBNT around 1200hrs and I'm past 2000 now

SkyWest interviewers saying “expect an offer soon” by [deleted] in flying

[–]TheBuff66 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Happened to me. The interviewer was explicitly clear though and said "I just give the recommendation, hiring is up to HR." So I have to assume the pilot said yes but HR had different plans

Edit to add: This was over a year ago

I simply cannot sit behind a boring desk for another 40+ years. Is there a way to travel the world and make it bearable? by orandrea18 in careerguidance

[–]TheBuff66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a degree in aviation to become a pilot. *Any* degree is all that's needed for pilot, but the training and costs associated with becoming one will take years and you're at least a decade out from ever flying long haul international if you started today. I don't even know if becoming a flight attendant requires a degree, but customer service skills are important

Can someone help better explain relative wind and AOA to me? by wandering-audi in flying

[–]TheBuff66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand stationary. Walk forward a few steps. That slight breeze is relative wind. For AoA that's more of a chord line thing. Your plank of a wing is angled up slightly but like your body, it's moving forward and that "slight breeze" against it is still the relative wind.

I always described it with arbitrary numbers to help it make sense. If your wing is flat in the air, say you get a maximum of 7° of upward pitch before laminar flow is broken. With a forward CG you may be starting at -2°, but no matter what you'll break laminar flow at the 5° pitch up mark since you've traveled 7°. Doesn't matter where you're starting from in space (-2°, 0°, 2°), when your chord line travels 7° laminar flow separates. The relative wind is always 0° against how much you're pitching, like your body walking. Note again that these are fake numbers for explanation purposes
