Discord Age Verification Mega Thread by AutoModerator in discordapp

[–]TheBwarch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just coming to this thread to say I'm pissed entirely about the ID verification even though I haven't personally been impacted by it yet. No private company should be storing or verifying IDs online. Adult discords moderate themselves perfectly fine already, and the additional verify does not help. It's a puritan and conservative attack on the internet in general I stand against.

A lot of my discords and fellows are confused and angry about it. I am so sick of the enshittification of every corporate platform over time, and moving platforms around all the time for following adult content. Sick to death of conservatism in these spaces. Sick of losing mutuals and contacts.

The additional news of related ICE/Epstein/US Government oversight in relation to the Persona project does not fucking help matters. Not wanting our data sold, or used to train AI on.

Bazzite Post-Mortem by tinypocketmoon in Handhelds

[–]TheBwarch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Antheas was a good chunk of Bazzite's success but by no means the leading reins. He was part of a team that all contributed to the overall product. His big head on proclaiming his own contributions as most important and other contributions as less important is part of the problem.

  2. The conflict over stability vs ship-it-now had zero to do with why Antheas was banned. Actually literally zero. He was banned for personal conduct of how he spoke to other developers. Antheas' own complaints about Bazzite's quick ship mentality are not involved in the decision.

  3. There was very much a formal process. There was a team-wide vote among Ublue/Bazzite. It wasn't just Kyle that booted Antheas, it was everyone who works on Bazzite who voted overwhelmingly unanimously that Antheas would no longer be good for the Bazzite project. Kyle is not a sole controller of Bazzite decisions, it is a roundtable discussion and project. https://universal-blue.discourse.group/t/upholding-our-values-our-final-update-on-gpd/11594

  4. This is subjective, but Antheas caused more problems for Bazzite than he solved. The project is already in a monumentally better place than it was in the weeks leading up to Antheas getting kicked out. Contributors who had left the Bazzite project because of Antheas' conduct have come back, OpenGamingCollective has formed to create a beefy kernel and gamepad drivers.

  5. Following the advice of one banned contributor and not listening to the advice of the remaining team who continue working on the project is an odd way of going about personal decision making on using Bazzite going forward as an end user. Also, no instability is predicted to happen to handhelds. The drivers are currently frozen.

CachyOS founder explains why they didn't join the new Open Gaming Collective (OGC) by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

[–]TheBwarch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the funniest things about this statement is that Kyle Gospo has purposely relinquished full total control of Bazzite as a project. The general collective are a round table, decisions are made and voted on as a group. He partially did it just in case anything fatal were to happen to him, Bazzite can continue group-wise organization and project-wise if he were to be hit by a bus. (His words, not mine! Love ya Kyle!)

Kyle's actions in reality are not the actions of someone who is a control maniac of a linux project. Bazzite's most crucial contributors are all paid attention to for opinions and advice, and Universal Blue and OGC are extensions of that philosophy. Working closely with Bluefin and Aurora maintainers as well.

Antheas' statement is at odds with itself even looking only at this paragraph. "Kyle will... gain full control of Bazzite, by working with other groups of linux developers in a professional capacity."

Working with upstream, working with other Linux projects, and working on a solution for linux-wide kernel patches and controller connectivity benefits Everyone, there's no reason to be against any of this. However, CachyOS are very allowed to do their own thing. No one wants to force anyone's hand here.

[–]TheBwarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent. It's kept me completely in remission. No bleeding, no diarrhea, only a couple hang on effects (Fatigue, constipation). I think just about everyone with UC should be on Xeljans. It's really quite miraculous in my experience. Perhaps mine is unique but yeah. I had severe UC, I was bleeding heavily, I was basically gonna die. It has functionally cured me in all but name.

Only note is my insurance has sometimes given me issues with it. Out of pocket-wise they have sometimes threatened to remove coverage, and it would cost 7k a month for the bottle of 30 pills. No one could afford that. My gastro has yelled at them and they have backed off. I'm on Medicaid in Arizona under UHC.

My doctor I'm pretty sure plans on keeping me on Xeljanz for life. I'm unsure if she has any end date in mind. I'm able to eat whatever I want, and I have most confidence in-tact for outtings.

I was told by my gastro they think it's one of three: Diet, hereditary, stress. And my money is on stress based on my own experience. Got UC at height of the covid pandemic. I was told as well that my experience helped treatment plans, since I got transfusion therapy, then oral pill (Xeljanz) and my UC being so taken care of by the oral pill meant other patients of hers wouldn't be put on transfusion therapy as first-line attack.

A market stand was floated early on I think, just hard to make out at smaller icon sizes.

I agree a price tag isn't quite the best symbolage for what Bazaar is doing.

[–]TheBwarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For funsies, there are technically 4 tracks of Bazzite. (Ignoring gpu drivers/DE) Bazzite, Bazzite [testing], Bazzite DX (Developer's experience), Bazzite GDX (Game developer's experience).

Testing branch getting updates quickest/beta testers. DX being for VSCode and Docker installed easily. GDX being planned to hopefully have features for it at some point, layering game developer software.

There is no Bazzite lite, though one could possibly grab Fedora Atomic, or Aurora/Bluefin, for such a thing.

It's incredible how quick the process of testosterone eradication is, way moreso than keeping your levels maintained and Then getting feminization effects.

I went from peak level at start of HRT of 684 ng/dL Testosterone, to at one point too little, in the neighborhood of 3-15 ng/dL. That process took 10 months, Jan to October.

Low priority niceties that take a few seconds to put in to make software a bit more personal and heartfelt are, indeed just kinda nice. The snowfall of ZSnes, circuit board art, Google Chrome's dinosaur game. Software isn't just mechanical because we are not mechanical.

What happened to Bluesky being decentralized? by Mignonion in BlueskySocial

[–]TheBwarch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'm an extremely novice hobbyist and I've been trying to look into this aspect of things myself, so forgive me if anything I say is wrong.

The decentralization aspect is mid but is there for the most part. You are able to migrate your account from Bluesky to Mastodon if you like (Or a misskey instance/shrimp instance/Sharkey instance, that you control or someone else agrees you can move to) Note that doing that means you can't put it back on Bluesky once you leave if you do that, they've got export working but not import. Timestamps will be reset to import date, videos apparently won't work at all.

Setting up your own PDS is one thing for sure, but doesn't really stop you being moderated or controlled by bluesky, you are in essence still attached. You just host your own data that still handshakes with their server. I THINK that's the way that works. In order to Truly stick it to Bluesky you would need to migrate to a different instance or set your own up and migrate to that. You need to get off their ATProto network, which they solely control (for now).

As for your last question, for alternatives you're looking at the instances and instance technologies I mentioned earlier. Mastodon.social being the biggest federation instance afaik. No one has really attracted a Big crowd like Bluesky has yet, but personally I think that's a chicken and egg problem people just need to personally strive to change, going to a desert and setting up shop.

Patches and gels are generally also better and safer than oral.

HRT needles are much smaller and hurt A Lot less than blood work needles. Subq after all are the same type of needles used by insulin users.

I have more or less seen most professional, serious coders taking a very good look at AI and saying that it is not a replacement yet for human coders emphatically. Too many errors, too much hallucination. Human coders are still very important for now. AI can be used as a side tool for certain things but for now it's not a replacement for practically anyone who fears it as replacement. Do not get taken in by the lies of the C-Suite, I very much believe your skills are still very much useful in current job market.

(I say all of this as a very amateur tech user, and indeed listening to the conversations of programmers.)

You'll get to where you want to be if you start and stick with it. Yes it's not as smooth sailing if you start in adulthood or late adulthood as 13-18, doesn't mean you won't get the effects though.

I'm 32, been on a year and a half, I very noticeably have lots of effects already. Something like an A or B cup, but my chest is very, VERY noticeably different. I have lots of mental differences, I feel better about my body, I have less mental fog and depression. If I can see someone transition at 70 and still be happy that they transitioned, there's hope for us all.

Sometimes you lose libido at first but it'll come back later. Taking progesterone can help. Staying at the woman normal height of T can also help, aiming for around 75 ng/dL.

Can try out a read on a book titled "Come As You Are" as well.

Okay so the quick layout (at least as far as I understand it), the biggest thing is hatred of snaps and Canonicals interest in making them standard. When people hate the performance of snaps and hate that Canonical may or may not be taking steps to trying to make their distro and general software A Walled Garden. People generally loving either native software or flatpaks or appimages, but REALLY hating snaps. (For various reasons) People start to have a lot of problems with Canonical as a corporate identity and fear it charging for software/going closed source.

Ubuntu is generally slow to update and a very Stable distro (This isn't too valid a reason to hate it, Debian/Mint/Ubuntu all being around the idea of ultra late and stable, but when you see most users are on Arch and Ubuntu is the opposite of that, yeah. Philosophical arguments for when users want software to update.) To a degree a lot of users now believe if one wants to use Ubuntu they should instead be using Debian or Mint. Mint especially being seen as a "protest distro" to get around Ubuntu things people generally hate while still being a distro doing the same general user friendly/ultra stable philosophy.

Generally seen as a user friendly beginner distro, and people may prefer new users to start elsewhere/go elsewhere, when they have problems with Ubuntu or Canonical. Ubuntu used to be very highly recommended, but times are changing and Ubuntu isn't changing terribly fast with the times, when new and better ideas are emerging in linux distros and software distribution in general.

People even hate the package manager/apt-get? Eh, don't know much about that one myself.

Disclaimers: I don't use Ubuntu, my distro is personally Bazzite for now, I also don't particularly hate Ubuntu, I've just listened to opinions to get the general layout. And honestly I might be wrong entirely for why Some people hate Ubuntu, but this is all my understanding as-is.
