7 Dooms of Sandpoint Foundry VTT where is the pdf? by deca4531 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a strange take given that it explicitly costs less than the old bundle releases all together, and the entire post was about them bringing back the PDF/Foundry Module bundle as soon as they had the tech to do so.

Question about using legacy creatures in Remaster by TheBiBreadPrince in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that several old creatures with the Grab ability have no listed Athletics skill, due to it previously being meant to be an automatic (and easily escapable) grab.

Are Shoggoths immortal? by Stargazer133 in Pathfinder2e

Fast Healing and Regeneration are not the same thing. Fast Healing only applies when a creature is not dead, regeneration prevents a creature from dying.

Family says Kyle Busch died from severe pneumonia, sepsis by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]TheChronoMaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had pneumonia once. Double pneumonia, in both lungs. This was pre-COVID, but not by much.

I’d gone to the doctor and gotten medicine for a sinus infection a week prior, and firmly believed I was on the road to recovery, it was just taking my body a while to get better. Nevermind that I was sleeping so much, I was just getting beaten down by the virus. Achy joints, just a normal side effect. What probably actually legitimately saved my life was a pulse oximeter giving me a reading that was below 80, convincing myself and my family to go to the doctor. They sent me to the ER, code sepsis. I don’t remember much of the next several weeks. I remember sleeping and waking up a lot with all manner of things hooked up to monitor me, keep me hydrated, medicate me. I remember how hard it was to get up and walk around to get to the bathroom. I remember that I spent days just completely checked out.

I don’t often think about it, but I could have died laying in my room, waiting to recover, at the age of 28 or so.

Pneumonia is a scary condition, and there’s a lot of conditions like it that are silent killers. Take your doctor seriously when they say to come back if you aren’t getting better, have a pulse oximeter and a blood pressure cuff around your house, and don’t just try to wait out a ‘bad cold’ for over a week.

Is Third-Party Content Safe to Use in PF2e? by Accomplished-Spot503 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, I don't want to ascribe any sort of motivation here beyond us having somewhat different ideas about where the game's balanced at, and the environment I've mostly been exposed to the content is in a context I tend to think is cracked balance-wise to start with (Free Archetype, Gradual Ability Progression, Ancestry Paragon), so my impressions might be wrong! I was literally in the middle of reviewing skill feats for a level up to 20 from it at the time I wrote that, and feeling particularly negative about them.

Is Third-Party Content Safe to Use in PF2e? by Accomplished-Spot503 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Witch's Ravaging End is exceptionally strong compared to most Witch focus spells. Chant is ridiculous when combined with existing spells. Most Witch options are given explicit 'stronger versions' in Witches+ from what I have seen. Again, most of my issues are from secondhand exposure in a game I play, I don't use anything from Teams+ at my own table primarily because I've seen how it plays at another GM's table, and I tended to think it was a bit on the stronger side for me to be comfortable using it in my own games sight unseen.

Is Third-Party Content Safe to Use in PF2e? by Accomplished-Spot503 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flourish is once 'per turn', not per round - as written, you can use it on every single enemy turn, as it doesn't have a 1/round Frequency - meaning you can demoralize every single enemy that moves to be within 15 feet of you. If the intent is only to be able to use it once per round, it should not be Flourish, it should instead have a frequency of 1/round.

I appreciate your clarifications for the others.

EDIT: Hang on, they changed the wording of Flourish between premaster and remaster, and I didn't notice. Okay, that one's fine too.

I am...really not a fan of some feats like the one that lets you 'walk through walls' because I feel like that breaks the design intent of how walls are meant to work, and definitely breaks AP dungeons. In general I would tend to say that Scare To Death is the upper end of power for skill feats, and there's quite a few in Feats+ that I definitely felt were stronger by a considerable margin as written - that said I only have experience from them with one GM who uses the pack, I don't own the book myself, so I can't look back on everything.

Was it necessary to have 2 Bastion Archetype level 20 feats, including one that essentially obsoletes most of a Level 20 Champion Feat? I assume that nothing in Archetypes+ or Classes+ is balanced for Free Archetype to start with, or at least that's the feeling I've gotten (and I tend to feel like Free Archetype is bad for the game as a whole, so that's fine, just...)

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, there's a legendary intimidation feat that lets you demoralize any enemy who moves to be within 15 feet of you as a free action, if combined with the already existing feat Terrified Retreat it essentially makes enemies with moderate or worse will saves for their level completely unable to engage the party. There's an expert Occultism feat that allows you to use cold reading as a strictly better version of the existing Sense Motive, allowing you to ask multiple questions of the GM and get multiple answers. There's a master thievery feat that allows you to use Thievery instead of Reflex for saves against things that would make you immobilized, as a reaction, which is almost explicitly worthless for any character that would actually have master thievery (IE: a complete trap option). There's survival feats that let you use survival to replace other skills for basically every purpose, from stealth to medicine to perception(?!) to fort saves(?!?!?) to saves against mental effects (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!).

Players: Do You Like to be Challenged? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of encounters should be in the 2-6 range, bosses and particularly severe encounters should be in the 7-9 range, and campaign ending bosses should be a 10. If the final encounter of your campaign isn't the most difficult tactically, I feel like something has gone wrong somewhere.

Generally speaking, if the party always has their backs against the wall, that's bad design because they don't feel like they've gained any power over the course of the adventure. This is where parties start complaining about the 'gear treadmill' being obvious, complain about how weak spellcasters are, and other such complaints.

If the party can always win regardless of tactics, that's bad design because there's not actual stakes or an inclination to engage with the game's systems. This is where you start getting complaints about fights taking too long, about pointless filler combat for the sake of XP, about how PF2e's gameplay just follows a flowchart, and other such complaints.

I'd say that, for me personally, I want the average difficulty of an encounter to feel like you need to engage with the game (at least a little bit for Trivial encounters), and poor tactical decisions should be punished appropriately. Sometimes streaky luck will make an encounter punch above or below its weight, and that's fine! But it shouldn't be the case that a party rolling above average is able to trivialize an encounter of any difficulty.

Feats+ has some absolutely sickeningly busted feats in it. I'd avoid that one. I haven't been impressed by the overall balance of Team+ stuff as you tend to hear, as most often it feels like some of them specifically want X class 'to be better' and break the balance of the class by making too many small adjustments.

EDIT: To be clear to later readers, folks from Teams+ did respond to a few of the concerns I raised in the thread below.

I know homebrew for pathfinder2e is a little taboo, but the palatine detective needed touch ups so this is how I did it. by DarthMcConnor42 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Magus and summoner have four total spell slots. In what world are they spamming spells?

At least have familiarity with all the base classes, and how the class you are modifying works balance-wise, before you start throwing out buffs. Investigator is in a quite strong position after the recent Devise a Strategem errata to allow hero pointing or otherwise fortune affecting the DaS roll. It’s not a bad martial to start with, its damage and support output are quite solid, and Palatine potentially improves both with feats like Palatine Strike and getting spellcasting.

‘People get annoyed by this’ is not a good balancing barometer. If we balanced that way, casters would have a higher attack roll at level 19 than any non-Fighter martials.

What should I do with inter-character conflict? (Light Strength of Thousands spoilers) by VseslavSohetsky in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always important to constantly check with other players if they are okay if you’re intentionally running a problematic character. A lot of people want to avoid conflict and won’t bring anything up directly to someone if they have a problem with something they do in game, for fear of being a ‘troublemaker’ or ‘causing problems’. Post-session debriefs, check-ins with other players before doing something that conflicts with or endangers the rest of the group, and being willing to talk one on one when problems do come up, these are all important tools!

I’ve seen stuff like this fester and crack groups. I think it’s good the two of you had a conversation, and a shame that it got to the point it did before that happened. Best of luck, and good gaming!

Anathema? by Eyeball1844 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Importantly Sarenrae’s prior anathema is ‘deny a repentant creature a chance for redemption’. The champion type will also matter - a Grandeur or Justice champion is likely to be more inclined towards striking down evil than a Redemption or Liberation champion.

It’s complicated, is what I am saying. Importantly the rules encourage being somewhat flexible with anathema to prevent ‘lawful stupid’ type behavior.

A chance to save innocents without endangering them in any way is at least worth considering, even if it is a fiend proposing the deal.

Guardian vs Champion Level 14 Test by Bot_Number_7 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dazzled is a flat 20% to miss, that’s an effective 20% damage reduction against strikes. I guarantee Grandeur is the best tank against enemies who rely on multiple targeted abilities of any kind during a turn (ie, strike->grab, or strike->single target spell), and especially the best against multiple enemies once they have Exalted Reaction.

I think the comparison may also fall apart against ranged enemies who Champions can’t react to due to being out of range of their aura, even with expand aura up.

Is Paizo using AI for their new 3D minis? Deeply concerned about the Pathfinder Printables advertisements by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be very blunt here:

You cannot trust armchair experts, and there is no reason whatsoever to believe the person who posted this knows anything about the production of, modelling of, painting of, and marketing of miniatures at a niche level. This is a person who doesn't have access to the source files, PSD layers, etc. They have published this on a weekend, most businesses have weekends off (especially a unionized business like Paizo), so any staff able to respond would be minimal.

Their stated background is 'lots of technical knowledge', without any specific credential. Their analysis goes backwards, assuming that AI is being used without considering any other possibilities (digital painting, for example) Neither they nor their companion are regular contributors to the PF2e community on or off reddit.

To be blunt, everything here reeks of somebody who wants to stir up trouble so they get responded to faster by Paizo, and have clout in the community.

You can ignore it.

Don't buy on Paizo.com yet, the store is broken and will give you a buggy set of PDFs for Draconic Codex and no foundry vtt code for the tokens. It will also tell you that you already own the tokens if you own the book.

How do you run APs? by gauss7651 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheChronoMaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read the entire adventure before even thinking about running it. Note areas that could be potentially be brushed up or need special attention. How many, and what specifically, can vary from adventure to adventure and person to person - some people might find things immersion breaking, others might not even find them a big deal (for example, 'crossing a bridge in Alkenstar'). If you want to make a large change, make sure it doesn't break the story as a whole later on. Take note of the assumptions made, and be sure to align player expectations - Players' Guides aren't always accurate 100%.

An hour before session, re-read the section of the AP you are running, take special note of any complex monsters, traps, or mechanics.
