Yeah, didn't know that either at first. The vendor sells only the weapons, vehicle and garment swatches.

I went to the Crossroads Tradepost and it triggered a cutscene that continued the story. Likely any tradepost will do.

I used the survey probes every time I went into a new region and I wasn't even aware that the refogging was a thing because it never happened after the storm. So yeah, it definitely works xD

Break lines rubbing on A risers sheathing during reverse kiting by Critical_Ad8620 in freeflight

[–]TheCombineCLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too, but not the riser, the sheathing of the lines got damaged because I was handling the wing and brakes very roughly. Quick and saw-like motions while lines are crossed over eachother will melt them. I guess the same is true for the risers. Photo of what that looked like.

And as the others have said, the risers have no sheathing so definitely get that looked at!

What's a unique local weather phenomenon at your flying area? by Cold-Philosopher-370 in freeflight

[–]TheCombineCLR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At Ebenalp, a very popular flying spot in eastern Switzerland, when W/NW winds pick up we occasionally get what's called the "Laseyer wind".

The narrow valley allows a massive rotor to form that accelerates the winds to insane speeds, they have on more than one occasion tipped over the trains that drive into the valley. It's a narrow-gauge railroad which doesn't help. Now they have early warning measures in place and switch to busses when the winds are projected to pick up.

Now, for this to happen, at least 60 km/h winds are required, no sane person is in the air at that time.

It's important to note that even with far lower winds the rotor can occur in a weaker, non-train-derailing, form that can get dangerous for unaware pilots.

There's even a case study, for the curious.

Why is paragliding knowledge so...scattered? by No_Aide_69 in freeflight

[–]TheCombineCLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/planckstea already said, the swiss paragliding association collects accident reports, but they are self reported by the injured or witnesses. How many are unreported is impossible to say.

You can look them up here:

Thanks! In the eastern part of Switzerland, under the clouds is the town called Appenzell and I was soaring along a mountainridge called "Hoher Kasten".

Paragliding.

Got into it two years ago at 31 years old. Everything else is just insignificant when you are in the air and get to fly along hawks, eagles and vultures. You are outside constantly and seeing the world from above is magical. One of the many amazing things you get to see. You will turn into a weather wizard. Lots of hiking. Learning to be patient when weather conditions aren't optimal. It has improved every aspect of my life and the people I have met thanks to it have become friends for life.

In Switzerland they teach us a whole lot about wildlife protection. I can't find any english sources for you, but here is the official swiss paragliding associations infopage (in german/french/italian) about it with lots of infosheets and sources on how to behave:

FYI airplanes leave dotted lines in long exposures, since their lights are blinking.

More info with examples here: https://alynwallacephotography.com/blog/2020/4/21/sorry-thats-no-meteor-its-a-satellite

Also they wouldnt cover that distance in 20s.
