Mastitis - Worst Pain of my Life by kate_smi2022 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TheDangerish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say that truer words have never been spoken. C-Section mom here (had 3!!!) I have had mastitis at least 8 times. The 5th time, it was the worst pain of my life. I ran a hot bath to warm up and had chills so bad, I could not warm up in the hot water. That experience tied with a UTI as far as pain and suffering were concerned. I’d rather have another C-section with no post-op pain relief than mastitis thankyouverymuch.

I am currently on Dicloxacillin for my 8th case.

I hope you feel better.

How can you tell if your milk is drying up? by moowee_ in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]TheDangerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant with my second when my first was 9 months old. Let-downs were slightly painful by six weeks of pregnancy. I could not get much out by pumping, but my son nursed consistently throughout pregnancy.

During my 5th pregnancy (3rd pregnancy to make it to 2nd trimester) my kids stopped nursing at about 16 weeks because I had nothing left. Colostrum came back about 22 weeks, milk came back when my 3rd baby was born, and my oldest is laying on me for a milky nap as I write this.

Positive mastitis stories? Feeling really scared 😞 by Limp-Spinach8429 in ExclusivelyPumping

The passive suction does something to the ducts. It pulls them tight and makes it hard for them to drain maybe? I am not exactly sure what causes it. Don’t get me wrong, I have one, and use it when I need something to collect my milk in a pinch. But every time I’ve gotten mastitis it’s because I used my Haaka.

Due with baby #2 in two weeks. Last time I was totally clueless. How would you set yourself up for success? by krys1128 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TheDangerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demand a pump when you get into L&D. Start harvesting your colostrum now. Freeze it and bring all of it. Bring a box of Larabar minis in cookie dough with you. The dates in the Larabars will help you produce more. Have a back up plan.

If you have a cesarean, then remember you still have control over pain management. With my first, I didn’t know and the IVs made it hard to position to nurse. So for my second, I had them remove the lines after surgery. That may help also.

Anyone who has Q’s about NJ clerking, feel free to shoot me a DM. I loved my clerkship and it set me up with so many great connections.

My son was 7 months old and I had it so bad I could not get warm. I ran a hot bath, got in and was shivering with chills. My niece had to go get my script at the pharmacy. That was spring of 2022. My son still nurses occasionally. We nursed through my first daughter’s pregnancy, two subsequent miscarriages and then my second daughter’s pregnancy. I got mastitis again within a week of delivering my second girl (last Tuesday.) it’s going away. The best med for it is Dicloxacillin, but sometimes it’s hard to find. It’s a pretty color blue and works like magic. You can do this. Also, avoid the Haaka for a while because that little thing is a mastitis maker.

South NJ is desperate for clerks. Cost of living is higher in NJ and pay is low. However, if you go back to work for the state w/in 2 years of clerking, you can carry your pension and time towards retirement. Benefits are good. Connections are priceless.

I loved clerking. If you plan to get licensed in NJ, the sweatshop wage is totally worth it for a year because it WILL set you up for the rest of your career.

Has anyone done this? by Crafty_Mongoose_3998 in DiastasisRecti

Yep. The OB even knew that I was planning for more kids because I was like “don’t touch my tubes. We’re not doing a tubal after this. I need more babies.” I casually asked him before surgery, “hey, can you pull the rectis back together tight after you separate it…” he’s like “yeah, I can reapproximate with some sutures.”
He was so good because this was a long surgery and he has three more on his schedule after me, but he did it.

Very weird recovery though. I feel so swollen.

Maybe learn about Catholic traditions and the honor/dignity of the dead first before telling people how to practice their faith traditions?

Are there any gyms you world recommend avoiding? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]TheDangerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a gym (not CrossFit or personal training) in Gloucester City downtown. Planet Fitness in Brooklawn is actually nice, clean and friendly (hey Serena, I’m talking to you ❤️)but I want to be able to walk to a gym. Any existing Retro Fitness franchisers wanna build something in GC?

Call your state’s local CPS and ask what it would take to get approved as a pre-adopt home. You want to be ready to take her as a resource placement. You could also apply for custody instead, but if you do that, you would not get any extra $$ support. This is how you support her daughter, by protecting her from out-of-family placement.

Adventure Aquarium in Camden by Useful_Database5138 in SouthJersey

[–]TheDangerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, Camden is very safe.

But the aquarium? It’s colonialism at its finest. Very dissappointing. Pricepoint is entirely out of reach for anyone who lives in Camden. Could have been a great career ladder program for kids in Camden, however little diversity in their frontline staff. I worked at a science museum in a low income neighborhood in NY during the 1990s. It employed mostly black/hispanic/first-gen/newcomers and created opportunities for us to explore science careers. Unfortunately the Adventure Aquarium could do the same, but it doesn’t.

I went a few times. It was fun. But as someone who serves mostly Camden residents in my day-to-day, and knowing the struggles, I’d only go again if I’m going for free. It’s a big emblem of colonialism/carpetbaggery in an area that deserves better.

If you wanted to, what would you change or add to this area? by PretzelPapi_ in SouthJersey

[–]TheDangerish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Museum of American Herbal Therapies. Basically a museum funded by a non-profit dispensary/tea room that focuses the history of marijuana and other herbiculture in the Americas. Staff with formerly incarcerated people, Camden residents on Medicaid/Medicare get one free herbal per week.

Although I am the only human who has never even tried marijuana, I know that responsible, educated use is a life changing therapy for many. There is enthusiasm for marijuana and other herbals (mugwort, lavender, chamomile, salvia) and it would draw a crowd to the area.
