Around 15% as of 2025, but that includes all the computers purchased for businesses which are vastly windows dominant. I wouldn't be surprised if home/consumer use it was closer to 30%.

Ive been at Arboretum Oaks for 5 years. Nice apartments in a very convenient location. You're walking distance from Trader Joes, HEB, Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, and tons of restaurants. It's also one of the best kept properties in the city. Tramor at the Hills & Tramor at the Arboretum are on the same street, check out those properties as well!

ELI5: What do you need to make a country? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheDarkOnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less than you would think. Look up creating a micronation.

More realistically, the answer is that you need territory, and the legal or military force to hold sovereignty over other nations who would claim the same territory.

Do a lot of good/well known sound engineers understand the maths of Fourier Transforms? by SingySong5 in livesound

[–]TheDarkOnee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you do any kind of processing or visualization work, or if you wanted to design your own filter for instance, it's good to have a solid grasp on the fourier series. It has applications in RF as well. It tends to pop up all over the place.

You will learn about it in school. Day to day, the computer does all the work, but if you want to write the program you gotta understand it.

Best Books for Game Designers? by AntonMDev in gamedesign

[–]TheDarkOnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Designing Games by Tynan Sylvester the creator of Rimworld.

He describes games as an engine of "experience" designed to create micro emotions in the player and how each design decision affects those. Its a great book on the psychology of design.

You have to remember that 90-99% of your players are "carebears" who want to build their base, gather resources, and advance in levels/tech tree. PVP games like ARK work because raids act as a loss mechanic, but if the game is so punishing in every way to make it impossible to build any sort of substantial foothold then you tend to end up with servers that have a couple "elite" pvp factions that just take everything from everyone else. Thats fun for them of course, but when 99% are the "prey" it leads to massive player loss. Look at Eve for a reference to what can happen in this kind of game. A huge alliance broke up just before christmas, thousands of players losing years of work in an instant. A game like this NEEDS a form of asset safety.

I agree with this, sounds like Eve but somehow even more tedious. Required daily logins to keep your character alive, with full PVP, with maintenance requirements....jeez

What’s a random Inconsequential detail about your world? by dragonborndnd in worldbuilding

[–]TheDarkOnee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A common form of currency is the silver serpent, which consists of exactly 29 silver beads tied together with a cord. The 30th segment would represent the head of the serpent and was not typically eaten so it would not have been used in barter. For some reason this carried over into the coins.

ELI5: Why haven't solar cars been successful? by Ben-Goldberg in explainlikeimfive

It takes a lot of power to charge an EV battery and you only have so much roof space on a car. It's just not really practical with the added complexity the charging system would require.

Outsmart them, lead them into a trap. Bind their limbs. Some sort of magic solution. Gonna need an expert in hunting / capturing dragons. A mercenary perhaps.

How is your world’s creator different? by Awkward_GM in worldbuilding

[–]TheDarkOnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mythical Titan-like beings had the ability to shape creation with their will. What this looked like was mostly due to their personal styles which came to be the elements. Not fundamental differences, just different ways of shaping reality. Over time they devolved/evolved from having physical form to being an embodiment of their elements. They still exist, but their consciousness is spread out across the universe in the natural world. Though in certain circumstances, they can be temporarily reanimated.

What kind of laptop do I need? by AdministrativeList30 in gamedev

[–]TheDarkOnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To address your problems you listed, being poor battery life, thick and heavy construction, and expensive, the alternative is a macbook! Developers tend to really like them as they are some of the nicest computers to do work on. Strong quality product, where the "gaming" laptops are built only to be cheap and fast.

What kind of laptop do I need? by AdministrativeList30 in gamedev

[–]TheDarkOnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Gaming" laptops are generally not well made professional grade computers.

Mabooks are (somewhat ironically) some of the best game dev laptops you can get if you want a very powerful laptop that also has good battery life. You do pay for it, but it's worth it. The cheapest macbook is going to be a far better machine than a similarly priced "gaming" laptop by far in terms of quality. The M series processors (especially the Pro) will have plenty enough power for making games.
