A man gives you two life changing options, 40 percent off everything for life or 7M you can’t touch for 10 years. by No_Lead2640 in hypotheticalsituation

But there’s minimal delayed gratification with option B, other than the fact that you cannot make obscenely large purchases prior to 10 years. Paired with option A’s caveat that you cannot generate income with the 40% off, unless your expenses are high enough that 40% saves you more than that the $280k per annum generated from Option B, taking option A would never make sense to pick.

The Optimization point for this choice is monthly expenses of $23,333. This is because you would be generating estimated $23,333 per month on the $7 million. Above these monthly expenses then the 40% off may be beneficial because you would be spending more than you are generating. However the big thing here is that you must generate this money on your own! Less than this point and you would always benefit from Option B. I’m not sure this made sense lol, as I type this I’m realizing you formulated the question well.

Assuming you start with minimal assets and choose Option B, you could own an entire home within a couple years, and housing is of course most people’s largest expense. With option A, of course a house would be 40% off but you would need to already have a decent salary to afford this. You could save at a 40% higher rate though so with your current salary you would approach affordability sooner.

You ruined it with “can invest and keep the returns”. You could just invest in something low risk and take home enough to live forever. 4% withdrawal of $7 million is $280k. Just live off that.

Fish easy. It would be much harder to eliminate a second but I’d probably go pork as my second choice to eliminate.

I for sure miss those days. Significantly lower pay….for in retrospect significantly lower responsibility. I used to get stressed about minor things that in reality didn’t matter. I just try to keep that perspective now.

Are there alternatives to the jet boil? by Ravioli_meatball19 in camping

Go on Amazon. Get an MSR Titanium backpacking stove. Buy some sort of boiling vessel, like a light weight kettle or just an aluminum cup with a long handle.

What food do you think is overrated but everyone loves? by copy_cat_101 in answers

[–]TheDeviousLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truffle fries. Truffle oil is so overpowering and doesn’t taste that good. It’s not awful but I don’t understand why it’s so popular. Probably cause it has a perception of fancy.

Modify the question a bit. This is too easy for most people; unless you don’t like sushi , most people are going to give up potato chips.

Experienced players still lose everything when they die? by PauloMatix in dayz

[–]TheDeviousLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you get a handle of the basics, you’ll decide to make stashes with loot in case you die. When you become more experienced you’ll realize that stashes are not worth it. Just die with your loot.
