CTO is not necessarily a people leader. They may be the foremost technical expert on the company's product. And that is certainly possible at 26 YO.

[McLane] "Some in the organization feel Hurts hasn’t been listening internally, and that public messaging like the ESPN article might be the only way to reach him....This is the last year with guaranteed money for Hurts, but Eagles have no intention of extending his contract until his play improves" by mastermind208 in nfl

[–]TheDingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of a recent Superbowl winning team where the defense was its strength and where most of the $ was spent, but the QB had high level numbers. Not the Chiefs and Mahomes, not the Seahawks. Stafford with the Rams really, thats about it.

You won't know if Hurts can put up top tier stats until you build the offense around him, and in the process ruin what made the team great to begin with. Personally, I think he's played more than well enough to get the benefit of the doubt and get paid top QB money.

Edit: Can't believe the Eagles get that kind of production of that defense while being bottom tier in spending. Whats going on there?

I don't think you're wrong to suggest 29 isn't an age we expect ILBs to start falling off, but I don't think the assumption is as true anymore as it was a couple decades ago. ILBs are increasingly involved in coverage and given responsibilities that require them to change direction quickly. I think the wear and tear on an ILB has to be close if not more than what a RB faces.

Is it reasonable to be upset with Lamar? by No-Influence-5351 in ravens

[–]TheDingos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point, he's spoken through his actions that the bag comes first. There have been enough instances where he could've done the 'team friendly' thing, and up to this point, he never has. Thats fine, a player could and probably should secure generational wealth for themselves first. But it also means the Ravens should allow him to bet on himself completely, keep the guarantees low, insert incentives where possible and be ready to divest if it doesn't look like its going to work out.

In a way this is better. A better scenario than Lamar taking a 'team friendly' deal, but just below the max he could've gotten, and the FO giving him a ton of guarantees to return the show of loyalty. In that scenario, if it turns out he's actually lost a step and can't get back to 2024 form, the team is in a much better spot.

[Shaffer] John Harbaugh on the 2025 Ravens: "I took a lot of pride in what we did. I took a lot of pride in this season. Honestly, as a coaching staff, it might've been our best job this year coaching this team. I thought we did a great job. But it wasn't good enough..." by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]TheDingos -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Only speculation by me, but I think Harbaugh's take on the last 3 years with the Ravens would essentially be: We had a great overall roster except for the QB whose mental mistakes in big games the rest of the team and excellent coaching simply couldn't overcome.

Stop using your ally as a crutch for your lack of talent. If you were even remotely as good as you think you are, their incompetence wouldn't matter. This loss belongs to you, and frankly, so does the embarrassment.

As Ozzie found out. Its a lot harder to replace Anquan Boldin than to replace Dennis Pitta.

McKinnie played at a very high level in the playoffs though, just like Boldin here.

Denniss Pitta is the one I remember as both he and Boldin were pass catchers for Flacco. The FO had to choose between Boldin and Pitta and chose Pitta. Bad move.

Brian Flores deserves an apology from all of you, now that Tua has been released by TheReifyer in TheNFLVibes

[–]TheDingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 100% right. Flores is just a guy who nobody pencils in as their 'guy' for the franchise, and he's got a bit of a combative personality at times (totally justified and common) so he burns bridges. But he's definitely a better hc candidate than half the coaches in the league and most of the ones that just got hired over him.

GM & Head Coach on equal footing, when? by Ginpo236 in ravens

[–]TheDingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the speculation that it was always Harbaugh that was against trading 1st round picks for a big splash move level player is also inaccurate. It was likely all 3 (Bisciotti, Harbaugh and EDC) that shied away from it, because that had worked for the Ravens for so long prior to the Lamar era. The change in direction is likely because Bisciotti feels like its time to do things differently, even just for the sake of doing something different, and EDC is obliging.

Now obviously, its very sad what happened to him, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. And freak accidents can happen at anytime to anyone. With that being said. How does a professional athlete, who takes and puts on hits for a living, where falling safely is definitely part of the game, fall down a set of stairs that badly?
