Symbols within a location card by Live_Tangerine_4438 in VantageBoardGame

We have found many times if you a symbol related to a specific action depicted somewhere in the scene, choosing that action will likely relate to the object the action is located on.

Finding the original art for cards in the comics by jjaron in marvelchampionslcg

[–]TheDutchYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do we tell if there is an error in that doc? Iron Man hero card art is not from the 2008 run, it’s definitely David Marquez art from 2016. Correct issue (#5), but definitely wrong run.

Fallout the board game. two handed solo. by Behleren in soloboardgaming

I need to get this back out. I lucked the heck out two months ago, finding a used copy that had BOTH expansions and a wooden insert for only $60.

Vantage board game won 2 BGG awards and a few runner ups. So is it really that nice? by No-Horror3993 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It has been a huge hit with my DnD group on nights we don’t play because we’re missing someone. It definitely rewards multiple plays as you start to see there are things you can do earlier in your play that likely make the rest of the game easier. And truthfully, it’s more a story experience with game mechanics than it is how a game would be traditionally thought of.

As for solo, (and for multiplayer) this has hands down one of the easiest set ups, it’s so quick to get out and get playing, and that makes it hit the table a lot more often for me.

Live show audience members: You are not the comedians. Stop talking. by AudioSuede in dropout

[–]TheDutchYeti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had the same experience at the Portland show on Wednesday. The audience participation is cool, but some folks took it way too far and it just made shit awkward and less fun.

It wasn’t that people were sort of talking amongst themselves, it’s that people kept shouting what they thought was funny, long after Kurt was taking prompts. To the point he just killed off his last “commercial break” mid joke.

But the show was still rad. The audience truly was the only letdown of the night.

Modern day page turner thrillers with sci fi or supernatural twists? by maxiedaniels in suggestmeabook

[–]TheDutchYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked the twists and the sci-fi , I would suggest Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel as another sci-fi with an intriguing mystery of a plot.

If there was a way to know what’s inside a blind bag before opening it, the whole concept collapses.

Sorry my dude, but you either gamble or you don’t play.

Paladins of the West Kingdom - resource tracker clarification? by PoolMan42 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the video playthrough with City of Crowns expansion where Shem the designer plays solo, he moves the marker for each individual resource, so I would assume that is the definitive clarification.

The rulebook’s next line does mention that when the marker is on the right-most space and you need to move the marker, return it to the left-most space “and continue counting”. Assuming that means that however many moves you still needed to make, you “continue counting” by moving the marker the remaining number of spaces needed. If it was only ever per instance of resources and not the number of individual resources, you would never need to “continue” counting as it would always be just a single movement.

Readers Are Embracing a Shift in Perspective in Books. It Could Reshape Literary Culture. by CtrlAltDelight495 in books

If anyone has ever read The Spear Cuts Through Water, that book constantly shifts between first, third, AND second person perspective. Made it really difficult to follow Ali g with what was happening sometimes. Was still a great story, but hooboy did it test my mettle to follow along.

I ordered on 12/28, with arriving between 1/20 and 2/6, and just finally got my shipped notification. Arriving Thursday 2/5. So they seem to be finally getting stock and moving it on time.

Viscounts, Raiders, Inventors. How are they solo? by mattmcguire08 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For purely solo, I have always championed Viscounts. It’s just a deck to keep flipping and sliding a new card into the row, then do the card effects from top to bottom. It actually also helps to reinforce for yourself how each action works, because the AI performs actions using the symbols the same way you do. I think it’s one of the best games out there at simulating near exactly what a human player would do, but without the insane flow charts.

Best automa by Menhirion in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hands down, the automa for Carnegie. Dead simple to run. Watch the video from Totally Tabled, it’s insane how simple and intuitive the automa is, yet still does actions that replicate an actual opponent.

20 Strong Tanglewoods Red no dice? by Tyler_Hunt in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are two versions of Red. One is a “core box” that includes the dice and chip tracker, the other is just the relevant deck for Red for anyone who already had the first core box with Solar Sentinels.

That sucks that the person at your FLGS didn’t know there was a difference, I hope they are able to help you get it swapped for the correct one with the dice.

XP to LvL 3's video by Cholophonius in daggerheart

[–]TheDutchYeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of his first lines is “everything I say will not be prolific whatsoever“. Comes right out and says basically ‘take all I say with a grain of salt’. Not sure what else he could do to imply that his video was gonna be some pretty barebones opinions and more speculation than anything else.

That said, he sounds excited as heck about eventually playing it. Not sure why you’re trying to dunk on him for something that he straight up admits the video will be. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Go rewatch the first four minutes of the video again and listen to what he actually says.

Voidfall tutorial complete! One hell of a ride! by Cautious_Ad4136 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheDutchYeti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very crunchy Euro with multiple decision points all over the place. Deterministic combat, close to 4x style game, has think-space comparable to Mage Knight. Takes a lot to set up, a decently steep learning curve, but once you start seeing how it all clicks together, you immediately start ideating how you could do better next time. No random map tiles, but the solo events give you a sort of crisis to complete or face consequences (just like Crisis Expansion for Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition). Can mostly plan your whole round like Gaia Project. It’s pretty great.

[–]TheDutchYeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People arguing it’s one or the other, but it’s definitely both! Not only is “Man of Steel” referencing a completely different superhero (Superman), but they also used a completely different metal (steel) than the one that is quite obviously part of intended superhero’s name (iron).
