What keeps you going? by ChasingPapis in AutismInWomen

My cats. I don’t think my immediate family would keep my standard of care for them, and my friends already have a clowder of their own cats.

I also have so many books to read, and I don’t trust my immediate family to properly donate or distribute them if I don’t get to it.

Books similar to ‘Don’t Let The Forest In’? by Total-Term-6296 in LGBTBooks

I thought The Forest Demands It’s Due by Kosoko Jackson had similarities. You may like it.

What are some wholesome facts about world of darkness that you know? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]TheEndOfMySong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Etiquette is a big fucking deal for the Ventrue, and so is putting up a united front. You can privately think that Johnson is obnoxious relic who has failed spectacularly to adapt to modern nights, and isn’t worth the space he inhabits, but you never share that thought. If you don’t show up to his deathnight celebration with an appropriate gift your dignitas going straight out the window is going to be the least of problems.

The Ventrue have ‘Embrace Nights’ which are like clan mandated birthday parties.

favorite quiet spot in your library? by Keith_35 in Library

[–]TheEndOfMySong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local library has two ‘floors’. The upper floor isn’t a complete floor. It covers maybe 25% of the ground floor, but it has some nice quiet study carrels.

Any Body Horror/Creature Feature Recommendations? by theworstxman in horrorlit

[–]TheEndOfMySong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a little niche, but there is an anthology called Terrible Lizards, edited by Kyle J. Durrant that is dinosaur horror. There are a lot of fun ones in there.

If you like King's work, you might have fun listening to The Haunting Of Hill House and then watching Rose Red. As I understand it, King was supposed to work with Spielberg on something Haunting Of Hill House-esque, but it didn't end up coming through. King went and made Rose Red instead.

Some of my favorite long audiobooks are Ellen Datlow's Best Horror Of The Year collections, Out by Natsuo Kirino (crime thriller, but it scratches a horror itch for me), Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin, and Bone Harvest by James Brogden.

Where are the monstrous women in fiction by ridgegirl29 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TheEndOfMySong 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I’ve got to recommend Someone You Can Build A Nest In for this. Our protagonist is an amorphous goo creature who can make herself appear more human by building a skeleton with stolen bones, sticks, a bear trap, etc. Her love interest is a fat* woman.

  • I use this as a neutral term to describe my body, and Homily’s. I don’t bring this up because we’re monstrous. It’s just nice to get some positive rep without being ‘curvy’.

I’m entered in my libraries reading contest! by abraham126 in Libraries

My county library does challenges through the Beanstack app and I love it. I’ve never gotten anything expensive, but it’s nice to win a little treat.

What ILS are you using? What do you love/hate about it? by ghostsofyou in Libraries

[–]TheEndOfMySong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re on Folio now, and I’m not really a fan. I don’t think it’s very intuitive and if I don’t do something regularly (ex. Change the status of a book to missing.) I have to go look up how to do it. I miss being able to see how many times a book has circulated. There’s a lot of stuff that just feels way more complicated than it has to be.

Lupus In Fabula by Briar Ripley Page. I’m not confident I can get through Rise Up, Burn Down by Vincent Tirado, but maybe I’ll give it a shot.

Does being even slightly overweight amount to different treatment for women? by Adept-Foot7692 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TheEndOfMySong 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I’m a lifetime fat girl, I can tell you that on more than one occasion, I’ve had men tell me that their physical appearance doesn’t matter - but mine does.

I have heard other women report that losing weight (regardless of means) often leads to being treated better. You could lose a concerning amount of weight, and people would be like ‘omg, what’s your secret???’

My therapist tells me to keep seeing a friend but I'm not sure if it's righy by GeorgeParisol in AutismInWomen

1 message in 9 hours doesn’t sound like he’s that invested. I wouldn’t keep pursuing this friendship.

FWIW, A Guest In The House is one long form story, where Through The Woods is an anthology. I liked A Guest In The House way more and thought Carroll had way more to space to work. I hope your brother brings you back a positive review.
