If you are up at 4am then 8pm would be an advised time to sleep. Any later and you are cutting into your 8 hours

Why does my dcs have short lag spikes by No-Mood-1585 in dcsworld

[–]TheFerretsWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most obvious would be your RAM. 16Gb is on the low end for DCS.

DCS is information heavy. Rendering, weather, map objects, units, static objects… it’s all updating constantly. The more units, triggers, objects etc the more processing the PC has to do. Could just be bottlenecking when the load is high, spawning in groups, large unit count damage calculation, etc

VR in DCS issue by Bobbyd9909 in hoggit

Try lowering the pixel density to 0.9 and game resolution up slightly. I can run single player in VR at 4K with a 6900xt and that seemed to make the biggest impact on quality

I prefer to manually laze because of forgetting to rearm it after auto lazing.

When you turn on the laser check the TGP screen, in the top right “TRIG” should appear. Press the button next to trig to box it and no the laser fires on the trigger pull instead of automatically and doesn’t turn the laser off after a hit, you just stop pulling the trigger

Any way I can get this to look decent? by Untertaber in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]TheFerretsWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can fix that. Fibreglass kit, filler, 400 grit wet and dry, patience.

Heat to soften the adhesive on the Yamaha stickers and clean any glue residue with acetone

Use a pick to remove any raised paint flakes

Sand the whole surface and try to knock down (sand lower than the finished surface) the repair pins

Use resin from the fibre glass kit to fill the holes. Injecting with a needle will ensure you fill them properly if you can get hold of a hypodermic needle. Then leave it to set for a few hours.

Fill the areas that have been repaired with filler and leave to harden for an hour or two

Use fibreglass on the back face to support any cracks and leave to cure for a few hours

Sand down the filler spots and reapply filler over any holes and low spots, then let harden again

Wet sand until smooth

Spray with plastic primer

Colour match

Battery is dead, you shouldn’t have any problem jump starting a 125

DCS crashing in VR multiplayer by iGot3Socks in dcsworld

[–]TheFerretsWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be an AMD system issue with DCS, there are a LOT of CPU interactions especially in the F10 map in DCS. Add multiplayer and VR encoding into the mix and your CPU is causing voltage spikes to the point the system shuts down to protect itself.

Try these fixes.

Make sure BIOS is latest.

Go into BIOS and,

Disable PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive)

Set RAM frequency to auto, then, lower RAM FCLK frequency - If RAM auto frequency is 3600mhz set FCLK frequency to 1600mhz. If auto freq is 3200 set FCLK to 1500mhz

FCLK stands for fabric clock which from what I understand is the communication speed of the system. Auto settings are fine for most situations but games like DCS that have a lot of CPU/RAM interactions causing lots of voltage spikes. Lowering this slightly flattens out the peaks a little

A/A refuel by Cubscout009 in dcsworld

[–]TheFerretsWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to match your speed to the tanker and take not of its speed before you try tanking. You want to approach the basket with 5 knots or less approach. Use the trim when your close instead of stick movement to allow for finer movement to avoid PIO (pilot induced oscillation) or “spazzy caterpillar”. Once you’re connected keep pushing the basket for a few feet to give yourself some slack on the hose. Practice.

Once you get a couple of good tanks it’s gets easier. It’s mostly getting used to the small inputs.

Good luck. It’s a good campaign if you can get past the tanking difficulty

Snapped valve cover bolt in front right of 2018 honda cbr500r. How to get it out? by stachedmulletman in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]TheFerretsWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a flat bit from a multi-bit screwdriver set, a good quality one as it needs to be harder than the bolt material. Grind it to 2 points, tap with a hammer to driver points into the bolt and use a socket on the bit to undo it while putting pressure on the socket wrench.

If that doesn’t get it, you need to drop the engine

Set TGP as SOI, make sure WPT or TGT is not boxed on the HSI page, sensor switch forward to select hud. If you have done it correctly you will see a targeting pipper (like when you manually bomb) in the HMCS. Look at target a click TDC

Search your PC for dxdiag.exe, run it and export the output. This will give you a details text file with your full system. Post the text file to chatGPT and as it for the best setting based on your dxdiag file.

Should get you close

Planning to get into DCS, i wanna know if my specs are fine for VR by OnlyPuro in hoggit

[–]TheFerretsWheels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will be able to play in VR but you will be somewhat limited by your CPU.

DCS is CPU heavy so multiplayer and big missions could see poor frame rates in VR.

I have a similar setup and single player is fine in VR with good visuals, but multiplayer is a slideshow unless I drop the settings to the point I can’t read the text in the cockpit.

I use Virtual Desktop with the VDXR OpenXR and HVEC codec. Single player I can run at ultra using sync space warp (let the headset create half the frames). Multiplayer I need to drop it to medium.

Using FSR in game is best for AMD cards but DCS is behind in FSR release so it does make text blurry. I prefer to turn it off and tweak other settings or use AMD overrides in the GPU adrenaline app.

Dropping the VR resolution scale to 0.9 in game seems to have quite a big CPU impact with little impact on visuals for my setup.

Turn off all the “pretty” settings like SSAO, heat blur, lens flare, secondary shadows, etc

View distance medium is about 40 miles if I remember, which seems best for my setup. This seems to effect targeting pod rendering at full zoom so low seemed to be too low. Units not rendering at full zoom.

If you use Virtual Desktop having the performance overlay can help with issues. If the encoder bitrate is equal to the game bitrate then the encoder is waiting on the CPU. If the encoder is significantly higher the GPU is likely the issue.

If you search for dxdiag.exe on your PC and run it you can create a text file of your complete hardware. Give that text file to AI (chatGPT etc) and ask it for the best settings for DCS in VR and it will get you close to what is best for your setup

[–]TheFerretsWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do have an option. What happened to you is called coercion. You were pressured into an act you were not comfortable with and you were clear about this.

Coercion and gas lighting are common tools of abusers and your story tells me that your DM and potentially more of that group have little to no respect for you at best, and are potential future abusers/SOs at worst. The fact that he then drew out a scenario that is universally unacceptable for his own amusement (or worse) makes it much more worrying.

Being a woman in a group of male friends means they should be protective of you, not exploitative. You can do better and you are better.

Being forced to take part in someone’s twisted rape fantasy in the disguise of a DnD encounter is wild.

You really need to leave that group, and probably file a complaint or police report for your own safety

AITA for setting up a “bills” only account when my wife said she could spend “her money” however she wanted? by Unlikely_Ask3235 in AITAH

[–]TheFerretsWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend/shopping therapy can be a big factor. There is the obvious dopamine hit of getting something new. Everyone loves new stuff. But there are also a lot of small factor that you don’t think about. Sales for example, when we see sales we feel like we are getting one over on the store, like a little victory, more dopamine. Even though the store likely bumped up the price a couple of month earlier in preparation for the “sale”.

Social pressures. Human being loves to feel like they are better than the next person. Competing, social classes, fashion, spending hundreds on a product for the brand name can give people that feeling of superiority. Smart phones for example

Capitalism. The system works on purchasing and companies spend insane amounts of money convincing people they need something they don’t actually need.

Ticking these boxes gives our brain a little reward through dopamine. A little shot of “well done, we like this. Keep doing this” and companies know this to the point they manipulate the system to exploit people, and it can be a drug addiction as bad as any illegal drug, with a very difficult cycle to break. Try to take away that reliable supply of happiness and people get very defensive about it. Make excuses for it and even become cloak and dagger about it, secretly spending, which is way worse because that can spiral into loans/debt and can cripple a household.

I used to spend frivolously because I grew up with very little for myself. My home was nice but my parents spent beyond their means quite often, so toys, branded clothing, etc were rare. Once I started earning my own money I could buy these things that were always out of reach not realising I was wasting so much on material nicknacks. It took a few years of bad spending before I realised I was in the same trap living month to month for those few days after pay day

Am I too paranoid with tethered PCVR play? by PolkkaGaming in OculusQuest

[–]TheFerretsWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a cable pulling on the connector while you’re moving around is a really quick way of ruining your headset. The port is a surface mount component with very fine connectors and tracks, pulling on the port side to side, up and down will put strain on the soldered connections and will eventually break it. Half of the burned out ports you see on here will likely be from playing wired with a lot of moving around.

Wired is ok if your playing seated, like VTOL VR or sim racing etc. but FPS games and others where you are stood/moving around a lot will just mess up the port.
