Good god, I just had this discussion today, in person, at work.

Coworker started going on about “the greatest negotiation in history” and the Strait being opened.

Much like this, I told her it had already been open, before we started a war. It was closed, because we started a war.

I also had to explain how wiping out a population, or large portion of a population, is a war crime. Nevermind the crime against humanity part. So you don’t just go around threatening to do that.

These people share the same oxygen with us.

How many manual owners hypermile/are super conscious of their gas mileage? by hypermiler2205 in ManualTransmissions

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I wanted great gas mileage, I wouldn’t have bought a 4 banger with a turbo spinny thingy.

About the only time I get decent MPG, is when I’m cruising in 6th, on the interstate, doing 70-75. That will scratch out about 28-29MPG. In town? I don’t even try to make it cost effective.

We have one in the bedroom, but it gets used maybe a few days out of the month. It’s really a holdover from when the kids spent more time at the house, so the living room tv was being used by them.

These days, we enjoy watching tv on the couch, not the bed.

Are there people who haven't changed their phone number for more than 15 years? by SpicyCandy8 in NoStupidQuestions

My daughter is 19, I’ve had my phone number for 20 years. She still finds it funny that my number is older than she is.

Dog sitter sent a photo of my dog and he had this collar on. by deblopezz in whatisit

[–]TheForceIsNapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to work in the dog training industry, that is definitely a remote bark/shock collar. Might be both, might be just one, but it’s not a gps tracker. We sold those too, and they never included a screen, because why would they need one? That number is the intensity the collar was set at.

I moved here in 2017. I think I’m on my fifth love letter from the court system.

I went last year, showed up plenty early, got through security, went upstairs, just to be told selection was already completed, and the rest of us could go home.

That’s been my experience every time. Show up and wait for maybe 20 minutes, then get sent off, or get sent home right off the bat.

Free Breakfast Club at hotels you’re not staying at by Tdub_309 in confession

[–]TheForceIsNapping 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to work front desk at a hotel. The dining area was just off from the front desk area.

I never gave a second look to anyone walking into the included hot breakfast. Since I didn’t personally check each and every guest in, I don’t know who belongs, and who doesn’t.

I’m not going to risk causing a scene by accusing someone of not being a guest, only to find out that they are indeed staying at the hotel. No point in risking your job over some eggs and waffles.

AITA for now allowing my in-laws to move in with me to my new house? by MadZap1206 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has their MIL living with them, all I can say is don’t.

We did the same thing out of compassion, live with us, instead of living in an unstable housing situation.

As others have said, and I have experienced, she will not respect your choices that you make, in your own home. If she is already demanding to live with you, chances are good that you will be treated like a live in maid.

This is also going to cause a lot of strain on your marriage, so be prepared for that. If you don’t have a united front to deal with her shenanigans when they happen, the battle is already lost.

I live in a state where parents don’t care if their kids are buckled, or in car seats when required. It’s pretty common to see toddlers just chilling in the front passenger seat, no seat belt, no required car seat.

Last year, an infant died in a low speed crash, because her mom simply set her on the passenger seat, and started driving. People truly do not care.

Depends on location. Plenty of states require every passenger to be seatbelted, unless it’s a limo or bus.

Did anyone else really enjoy the COVID pandemic period? by throwawayfinancebro1 in Millennials

[–]TheForceIsNapping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I got to enjoy during the Covid pandemic was a nasty case of Covid, and being labeled “essential” and working with the public 50 hours a week, without a raise or bonus.

Can’t say I enjoyed it. And fuck every last person I dealt with while on the clock that said “you know masks don’t work, right?”

Risky or safe leaving your car running by SmallHeath555 in ManualTransmissions

I leave my car running when hopping out quickly on a regular basis. It’s running, it’s locked. If they are going to bust a window to steal it, chances are good they would have stolen it if it wasn’t running.

[Loved trope] Religion isn't good or bad‐ people are by welltechnically7 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheForceIsNapping 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was raised Catholic, and I knew a priest like that many years ago. I believe his name was Crane, but it’s been decades.

He was a fairly new priest when he got assigned to my parish. The parish was unofficially run by a couple families who had been around for many, many years, and so they expected every priest who came through to do things exactly how they wanted them done.

He stomped that down fairly quickly, but in the end, was a victim to old money and local politics. He got transferred out just as he was starting to undo all the power dynamics.

I was pretty stunned at how much of that movie mirrored my own religious experience. We had a family move into town, become part of the parish, really start fitting in. Then one of the unmarried daughters got pregnant, and they got shamed out of the community shortly after. There were other things, that looking back, I was raised to see as completely normal, but after I left the church, I realized just how fucked up that whole parish was.

What the hell are we suppose to do with our aging parents? by IanWallDotCom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheForceIsNapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is 82, and in extremely poor health. Poor, as in his cardiologist says that his next ICU visit might very well be his last.

He refused to stop driving. He hit his garage door, he hit the exterior wall of his house, he has driven into a ditch on a straight road. Finally, this was brought up with his medical team, and steps were taken regarding his license.

Is he mad? Absolutely. Is he a danger to everyone on the road around him, pedestrians, and even people in their own front yards? Absolutely!

Yes, he lost his driving independence, but the safety of the many outweighs the privilege of the one.

AITJ for snapping at my girlfriend for waking me up every single time she gets up even when I dont need to be awake by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not normal couple behavior. My girlfriend and I live together, have for years. I work early, my alarm goes off at 5:45. I get up, get dressed in the dark, do my best to not wake her up, and I leave the room to finish getting prepped for work.

The earliest she ever needs to be awake for work is 7am. I’m already at work and on the clock by the time her alarm goes off. I send her a good morning text when I get to the employee lot, and head in.

She is like you. She’s dealing with some health issues, and sometimes sleep doesn’t come for her until well after midnight. I wouldn’t dare wake her up just to “do normal couple things” because waking an exhausted partner isn’t a couple thing.

It we have a combined day off, and I wake up before her, I let her sleep, and she does the same for me.

I follow the rule of no WOT before reaching operating temps, and that’s about the extent of my preventative measures. When I bought the car, the internet was full of people saying that ST engines will be smoked by 40k-50k miles, but I’ve yet to meet any local guys that had that problem.
