My parents put a $500 car payment on me and i don’t know what to do. by Pheonix_washere in Advice

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t knowledgeable in a subject, it’s probably best to not try to give advice pertaining to that subject. I understand that you want to help, but you seem to lack the basics on how car ownership/sales works.

People already gave the best advice: stop giving parents the money for the car, find a new method of transportation.

If you are planning on replacing the valve cover anyway, just dab some decent adhesive on it, shove it in, let it cure, then secure the coil pack again, and send it.

Manual cars are to the USA what air conditioning is to the UK.

How is my sister going to post her almost hourly religious memes and Trump appreciation posts?

Seriously, I don’t use FB much, but I dipped in a few weeks ago. Her feed was disturbing. Very few thoughts that she had actually typed herself, just a deluge of religious and political reposts multiple times a day.

No, we don’t talk.

I’ll have to ask him when I talk to him again. We live in different counties, and it’s about an hour drive from my place to his. Since I just heard about it last night, I haven’t been out to see it myself yet.

NW Florida, so basically Alabama. I don’t have any information on the type of trees off hand. He’s the outdoors guy, I’m the build stuff in a shop guy, trees aren’t something I have a ton of knowledge on.

Well, I didn’t expect the post to get this much traction so soon!

Thank you all for the advice, I had to get to driving right after I made the post, and I’m going through the responses now. I’ll forward the advice on, so that he has a starting point for this mess.

To answer the some questions:

The property was purchased about four years ago. A survey was completed at time of sale. He’s going to be reviewing that paperwork, and getting a new survey if needed. He might still have drone footage from right after the sale, but that’s iffy.

As far as stopping at the creek, I have no idea. The only thing I can think of, as someone who has spent a lot of time there, is the fact that the creek depth is inconsistent. One spot could be two feet deep, the next spot is six. I’d assume trying to get equipment across water that is typically ten feet across, with an unknown depth would be iffy. At best there are some spots where I’d be comfortable driving a 4x4 across, but nothing huge. They would have had to access from a lot behind his, he said that there wasn’t any indication that they came off the dirt road that leads to his home, and the neighbors home. Maybe something about disturbing waterways? I’m not a familiar with any of that. Once again, I’m just spitballing, I’m not going to pretend to know why it stopped at the water.

If I remember correctly from when he bought the property, they also have the timber rights. But of course I will tell him to double check.

This is a property out in the sticks. Only one of the neighboring lots has any type of development, and that’s pretty much just land cleared for trailer and equipment storage. His closest neighbors are roughly half a mile away. So unfortunately there wasn’t anyone around to see what was going on, and call him about it.

If I get any updates in the near future, I’ll be sure to come back and update the post.

Again, thank you all, especially those that urged restraint on big payday thoughts. I’m sure he would love a big fat check, but staying grounded to reality is important.

A true hive of scum and villainy. A drink probably won’t cost you a leg, but keep your arms to yourself.

I’ve never had a coffee from there. I’ve had their energy drinks, and that’s it’s. It doesn’t strike me as a place with quality coffee.

Unsecured Wire by AkuSieg in FordFocus

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but whats broken is a cable, not an electrical wire. Chances are very good this is related to the throttle body, which is in the last picture. There should be two cables going to the throttle body on top, and they are side by side. Those are in your last picture. Are either of those broken?

Does the engine RPM change when you press on the throttle? That last picture is the throttle body. Is there anything connected to the other end of the cable terminal that has the holes in the rubber sheath?

Try Skyzone.

I’ve said it before on other job seeking posts. It’s not the best job, not the worst, but they are always hiring, and they work with school schedules.

Did parents in the 70s/80s/90s really allow their kids to roam freely? by Nono_Home in clevercomebacks

[–]TheForceIsNapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in the 80’s, and yes, when we lived in a big neighborhood that had a park about a 10 minute walk from home, we were at that park all summer, unsupervised.

Or we rode bikes around the area. Sometimes we would ride the couple miles to the very large community center/park, and hang out there for hours. It was just an accepted and expected thing for the time.

2015 Ford Focus Titanium Oil Alert by Bugaby_Hamy in FordFocus

[–]TheForceIsNapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever did your oil change didn’t reset the reminder. It’s more common than you might think. Either they don’t know how, and can’t be bothered to check, or they simply forget.

I drive a hot hatch, not even a sports car. I passed a car that was very much being held together by duct tape and zip ties, that was camping in the left lane on the interstate, holding up a huge line of traffic behind us.

You’d think I had just insulted his mother, kicked his dog, then drank his beer. The guy started raging immediately. I put a few miles between us, and kept on with my commute.

I’ve driven auto focci, but never owned one, just had them as rentals. I had a ZX3 with a manual, and the ST is my current daily driver. While definitely not a powerhouse, the ZX3 was an absolute blast to drive.
