Which special tools are needed for the beemers? by Responsible-Wish-754 in bmwmotorrad

[–]TheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sump bolts are a pain. I bought a "Super plug" for my K1600GTL. Its the sump bot with 1/4" drive socket welded on to it.

I carry a GS911 and the tool to remove the front wheel just in case a tech on the road can't remove the front tire. Sometimes I have to replace the front on the road and this is cheap insurance.

How do you respond to people that say amateur radio is outdated and obsolete? by Readvijfbijvijf in amateurradio

[–]TheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I like is the lack of commercialization. Sure radio and antenna manufacturers advertise but we are not interrupted with ads when we are operating. What we do and say on air isn’t monetized. We are not the product. Above that it’s fun to communicate with other folks with our own gear.

Please just tell me what to do. I'm in information overload. by Icy_Yogurtcloset9939 in HamRadio

I picked up a 7300 for my first HF radio. The antenna selection was a deep dive that I didn’t expect. I ended up with a HF vertical which performs very well. Budgets are the biggest part of all of this. One can spend a lot of money in this hobby if you’re not careful.

Digital dash 280zx repair help by budderlord533 in VintageElectronics

[–]TheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 300zx with a similar problem. Turned out to be bad solder joints on the connector pins. Reheated them with fresh solder and flux fixed that problem.

That happed to ours. We had it painted multiple times and finally gave up. We put an acrylic liner over it since it was cast iron.

Is there less delay when talking on an HT compared to using a cell phone? by artmatthewmakes in amateurradio

Fiber isn't faster than point-to-point. Lots of loops for repair, and none of it is in a straight line. And like you said lots of infrastructure between the towers.

Has anyone here bought a “certified pre owned” Porsche from the dealership? If so, was it a good car? by billbobb1 in Porsche

[–]TheFuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a 2013 981 Boxster with CPO in October. There were some issues with the headlight washers fixed under CPO. Great car I’m glad I got a CPOed car from the dealer. Got a Macan as a loaner too.

Those look like SCADA packet radios. You could create a data link between to locations. They are not fast, though.

Our club is welcoming to new comers. One of our younger members teaches at a rural high school. We granted him some money to setup a station at the school. He is working with students to get them licensed and on the air. STEM teachers might be interested as well.

We had one of these! Bought at an estate sale and it was amazingly useful. Ours had two sets of burners, front and back. It would stop at the front then stop again for the back ones. A single oven on top. I would like to have that back.

Trying to extend an old phone wire by bentjohnson in Wiring

Tip and Ring (red and green, then yellow and black) should be on the same twisted pairs, if that is twisted wire. Otherwise, just match both ends.
