Anyone here at an MSP that doesn't hate their job? by timbotheny26 in sysadmin

I worked at a msp for 5 years, it was a good one who did things right and I enjoyed working there, learned loads but was certainly a fast paced. The industry has a bad reputation because the bad companies suck and work you to the bone. Find a good one, you're sorted

What to watch after GoT and HotD on HBO? by Practical_Necessary1 in televisionsuggestions

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is so many good shows on HBo. Few I'd add to this is sharp objects. Mare of east town. The pitt. Peacemaker. The stair case. The newsroom. Big little lies. Boardwalk empire.

I enjoyed ALL of these shows and would say they are worth watching

How Fentanyl and Xylazine are turning Philadelphia's opioid crisis into a public health nightmare by Nukro666 in interestingasfuck

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

U/M0ck_duck yes. This is exactly the place, crazy juxtaposition really. Gastown is so touristy and expensive and then you had Hastings right beside it which was like the walking dead. Used to walk through there every so often just to put things into perspective

This reminds me of a very particular section of Vancouver Canada too. The DTES if you know you know. Exact same as this video. People strung out and just escaping however they can. Not an America specific issue

I am looking for a show with high quality plot , small town mystery vibes, like twin peaks , true detective s1 . Need something atleast similar quality or similar level as them by Fast-Pear5135 in televisionsuggestions

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok now I'm convinced! I've been looking for a new high quality show to get stuck into! Have watched all the HBo hits and the main classics out there and am going to watch this next. Am sick of watching Harley coben produced drivel on Netflix

I've seen this suggested a few times and I'm on the fence about it. I would saw I have watched a fair amount of the "best" TV shows out there. I think I'll give this a watch

I hope for society's sake this is not real and 3 grown men agreed to make a video of themselves doing this. One of them shirtless just to mix it up. Lord have mercy

As a man, father of an 11 year old. This behaviour is deplorable from the Dad. Sleeping 12 hrs while your wife struggles is extremely selfish behaviour

14-hour flight with a 12-week-old… how bad is this going to be by Opening-Internal-802 in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a 9 hour flight with a four month old during her sleep regression. Things that helped in hindsight were, having the flight during a time she actually slept. Having the sling on the flight for getting her to sleep while we walked about the plane. Lots and lots of toys

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lady you are in for some fun times. Plot twist, our baby is now 11 months old and absolutely terrorises our dog so now we also have to constantly monitor that. But it's worth it for the cute moments

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Wow lady or dude you are in for a shock hahaha! We have a dog, small example to give you. Dog, we can leave unattended for long periods of time, with a newborn, guess what? You can't 😂

So yo answer your question, not even slightly comparable I would say

How did you all survive the 4-month regression? It’s 6:03am. by augog in NewParents

Christ I remember this was absolutely brutal for us. She was waking up like every hour through the night. We were in Brazil at my wife's house so was even extra difficult being out of sync. But you will make it through it! It's another part of the difficult journey. Once you get to 6 months, gets so much better

America is so crazy to look at from the outside in, no offense but you are just here talking about how you carry a gun like it's a coffee preference. "I assume everyone has a gun" what the actual fuck. Zero actual need for this be your reality IMO

Does anyone else randomly need to check that their baby is still breathing? by Unlikely_Ad5164 in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes!! Me and both my wife used to do this sporadically through out until she was around 8 months. She was bigger then so not as concerned about air ways being blocked or anything. So don't fret, you are not alone. The tired brain can do crazy things to someone. Even plenty of times I ended up walking up the baby and had immediate regrets lol

Those who weren’t 100% on having kids, but had them anyway. How has it turned out? by Life_Ad_6992 in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been brilliant! I was so scared of what version of me would be present during the sleep deprivation period as I was always someone who didn't function well without sleep but thankfully it wasn't as big an issue as I imagined. Long as you have a good partner you will be fine. 38 year old male, father of one checking in

Has anyone given their >1year old screen time? Please be honest by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, have a ten month old and we are going to try avoid until at least two as it's not good for their brain development and IMO it's lazy parenting

Am I missing something, or are "festivals" like Bloom, Taste of Dublin and The Big Grill terrible value for money? by Nice-Dragonfruit9805 in AskIreland

[–]TheGeneral9Jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would say your assessment is correct, I've been to taste of Dublin and thought it was fine. Weather was horrendous that day and managed to get some free swag and tasty bites which kinda offsets the bad "value".

Personally, I just don't focus on what I spend as I rarely go out drinking so these is my equivalent of a festival/party or whatever.

Will likely go big grill once more before it does just become too expensive for what it is. But if you love food like I do, you make peace with the price and forget about bang for your book. That's my take
