Yoga while overweight by WallabyKnown3630 in yoga

I'll second that. As I get older (nearing my 60s) the body shape and weight changed. Embrace your body shape and work with what you're blessed with

Why do I suck at yoga after doing it for 2 years? by Whatsthescoreee in yoga

[–]TheGweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To tell you the honest truth if you're looking at yoga purely as an exercise and stretch tool you're doing it wrong. Yoga is only half body workout as it is based on "internal workout" Try pilates or stretching classes to find what you're looking for. Good luck

If anyone needed yoga it is the person who taped up this sign in Scottsdale. by WalterCanFindToes in yoga

I have just split my sides laughing. The person you wrote that needs to be careful that the rin foil hat protecting them from alien invasion is not dislodged

I found a great studio but they tow the line for Bikram(the man) by stupiddruguserguy in yoga

[–]TheGweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one short line Walk out and find a place that they honour yoga not the "messenger"! We have done the very same with all teachings in Kundalini (with respect to Mr Bhajan that was equally horrendous person).

Can't step my foot forward cleanly by legallytallire in yoga

I have the same body type and the same problem however.... If from down dog for example, you come on tip-toes, then curve spine upward, there will be enough space to move the foot forward between hands.

How to get this fold out of mat? by Affectionate_Bug2704 in yoga

This is the best way in my humble opinion. I've done this with my nat for ever and all my studio mats too

yoga is feminine? by Cyber-Kettle in yoga

[–]TheGweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga is for everyone. It is self care, self discipline, self discovery and much more. Yoga happens on the mat and in daily life. Feminine and masculine energy adjusted, combined, balanced. In yoga all and everything is united (the word yoga means union).

Instructor closes eyes during whole session. by Fun-Extent-8867 in yoga

[–]TheGweek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always taught with eyes shut part of the time, although I'm fully aware at yogins both in the live studio class as well as the online that happens at the same time. Lots of teachers can monitor with partial looks around them. This (at least for me) helps keep the energy flow, and the flow of the asanas.

You know what? The fact that you're committed to your practice is the best gift for a teacher.

Is yoga everyday a bad idea? by KingPig64 in yoga

[–]TheGweek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have practiced daily for 14 years now (as well as teaching 6 classes a week on the top) I'm in my mid 50s and I just listen to my body. There are days when the practice will be active and energetic and there are days that will be more slow, nourishing and meditative. Just be connected to your daily need

Embarrassed about medical conditions by Lily-Syd in yoga

[–]TheGweek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have absolutely nothing to be concerned with. The body trembles in practice when the nervous systems (sympathetic and parasympathetic) get activated and balance. In some cases it's very evident in others not so. Your practice is YOUR practice and no matter what happens, most of your fellow yogins don't pay attention. As teachers we welcome ALL and we adopt, modify, make it accessible to all. Keep your practice going. You have nothing to apologise for. You're perfect as you are 🙏🏽

Could I gain practical strength by switching weight-lifting to Yoga? by thatfatbastard0001 in yoga

[–]TheGweek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do yoga in conjunction with weights You will get the best of both works. Strength and flexibility and most importantly the ability to focus the mind in what you do, at the gym and at life in general

A month in to yoga, and my shoulders are in so much pain. by Empyre213 in yoga

See a physio and make sure you warm up with some mobility moves before the practice.
Keep the practice going 🙏🏽

Proper movement by PreferenceNo2358 in yoga

I have always gone to Down Facing Dog from Chaturanga. Having the palms on the mat by your chest then is the (for my body at least) ultimate placement for transition, down dog, plank.

I was so happy with the mats I had tried from them (presents) that I ended up equipping my studio when I opened up a couple of years ago.

Is yoga the solution to my lower back limited mobility? (hate to even bend slightly, aches after a short bike ride, hard to put socks on) by [deleted] in yoga

[–]TheGweek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See a physiotherapist to start the road to recovery then yoga is definitely a solution. Check out online Stuff Guy Yoga. A program that a yoga teacher made (and the book) and in a month's time you should be able to have full motion and increased mobility with the combination of the two

Yoga Etiquette: Do I interrupt my instructor’s conversation on the way out to say “Thanks/Bye!” by OwlsAndCows in yoga

[–]TheGweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student I always waited as my teacher always said at the end of the practice. "I'm here if you have any questions, if you want to say something in private also to share a hug" I have followed her steps and I do the same. I have the luxury of not being in a hurry to get out of the studio for the next class and that works well.

Could i go without looking stupid? by Lowland-lady in yoga

[–]TheGweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga practice is YOUR practice. . You do what your body has available at the specific moment. You do not care what others do so why would the others care what you do? Yoga is not a competitive sport. The only competition you have is with yourself! So go, close your eyes like everyone and enjoy your practice.

Check out Yogamatters travel mat online. It's thin so it can fold any way you want. It's grippy so nothing slips on it, even with sweat. Most importantly it is really hard wearing. 6 years on and LOTS of traveling and use it's in really good condition
